Seems like most see him as a sure thing here. Maybe I haven't seen enough of him but I think he looks decent but definitely not as good as he's being touted here. Young though.

He’s very raw still. I’m not sure he’s a sure thing. How can anyone be at 18 years old. He shown a heck of a lot of promise to be excited about though and there are lot of Irish posters here who are following his progress closely so it may feel like there is more hype about him than there actually is.

Realistically, he will play 3 years of the 5 year contract, and in 2026, he will be 21, which will be the perfect time, assuming he progresses as expected, to bring him in as one of our leading strikers. How about the following as our first choice strikers:

2023-24: Hojlund (£50m) and Martial
2024-25: Hojlund and Kane (free)
2025-26: Hojlund and Kane
2026-27: Hojlund and Ferguson (£70m)

If Kane is still performing to a high standard, we could potentially push back the Ferguson transfer another year and get him cheaper in the last year of his contract.
If we're in for Hojlund I highly doubt it will be only him. Relying on an unproven striker with 7 goals in 27 Serie A matches would be a huge risk.

I would be surprised if there is a sea-change for Potter and his entourage at Chelsea
I don’t know what this post means. I think the only Brighton folk we have left at Chelsea is Paul Winstanley and that recruitment specialist fella, his name escapes me. The rest are unemployed.

Then again, the poster above suggesting we go into next season with Hojlund and Martial as our main strikes probably has it quite wrong
I must admit I was being somewhat facetious with my reply. I agree £60m would be a more likely summer fee, which makes it strange to me that someone would view him as a realistic buy after three hypothetically successful seasons for £70m. If the seasons weren’t successful, why would United or anyone else even want him, let alone for that figure?

Martial isn't going anywhere this season as he is on a huge wage and nobody is going to take the risk of buying him, and paying him that wage. He has a last chance saloon to prove himself at man utd. He has actually done reasonably well this season when he has been fit. We also have Rashford and he who shall not be named, who can both play as a striker. Hojlund and ***** are a massive upgrade on Weghorst and Ronaldo. Anyway Red Star One, you think you are so clever, who would you recommend we go for? Haaland and Mbappe to give us a choice of starting striker? Realistically, the only potentially obtainable strikers clearly better than Hojlund are Mbappe, Kane and Osimhen, and we won't get much change from £100m for the cheapest of them.

£70m for a 21 year old striker with two years left on his contract and he says he wants to go to man utd and only man utd is a very realistic price. If he flops in the next three seasons, no-one is paying £70m, but I'm assuming he does reasonably well. If he turns into a monster, Brighton may hold out for more, so we let him run the contract down another year, or even completely. So long as he wants to come to Old Trafford, we hold all the aces.

Yeah that's fair. Hope he comes through as most hope as would be great to see another world class Irish talent. Especially if he's a United fan.

Che Adams and Dominic Solanke would be a massive upgrade on those two

Do you think Hojlund is ready to be first choice striker for Man United? I've never seen him play so I can't comment but his goal return suggests he isn't there yet.

Second goal was basic striker movement but it looks incredible when we've been devoid of having a forward who will make those runs.

You'd need productive wingers to really make him shine though.

United fan, already turned down Liverpool. He could have a leg missing and be better than what we've got.

The big clubs (City aside) are going to be all over him sooner rather than later.

Won’t be able to get him this summer. But I’m all for lining him up to come in to the club in 2-3 years time. That would take some long term planning by the club though.

Looks a talent but will cost far too much to sign him this summer. We’d be bringing him in as a second striker and not the main man so the price isn’t justified when we have a limited budget. We need to go big on a top striker ready to be first choice like Kane or Osimhen then potentially a cheaper option as back up if the budget can stretch after addressing other areas. Definitely one to revisit down the line if he isn’t snapped up by anyone else.

Next season will be his season to aim for double figures in the league and he'll certainly be my first FPL signing. He'd be wise to stay where he is, not that I think Brighton would sell anyway.

How muppet crazy are you people? Let's say Kane's price is 90m. Whom would you rather, for 90m. Surely I'm in a minority here (preferring Ferguson, regardless of price) :wenger:

Kane.

This kid's nowhere near ready and regardless I don't support the singing of Irish players.

Ferguson over Kane I think, as mental as that sounds. Kane evolving into a player that is constantly dropping deep as well as getting onabit makes me think Ferguson is a better option. He could feasibly be here for the next 15 years assuming he fulfills his potential.

Young. Scoring goals at a good rate in the PL at 18. Irish. United fan.

Seems a no brainier to me. Not a guarantee. But looking at his form, his profile and hopefully, our coaching, he could be great for us.

Buy him and loan to Brighton for next season. He needs a second season of playing many games in the Prem. If we leave this for 2 season he will go to a better team

Fair enough - Keane, Irwin, O'Shea and McGrath were all dreadful for us. And that's just the Republic! Don't get me started on how woeful George Best was.

Strange to be prejudiced against someone based on nationality, no?
