Everton 26/27

Why would you not want Howe?

You'd be lucky to have him. He finally ended Newcastle's long wait for a trophy, he could potentially do the same at Everton.
1. Plays terrible time wasting thugball.

2. Don't like him as a person, seems like a 'the world revolves around me' type.

3. One thing I've disliked about Moyes this time around is him vetoing a lot of club and recruitment choices. Howe is far worse in how he wants to be the ultimate controller of club and transfer policy.

No thanks.

I guess I don't really understand the hate for Moyes given you already came very close to top 10. There's more potential for you to fall backwards with the wrong appointment ala West Ham imo.

It's more that Moyes has a ceiling and you know what it is, and he's not doing anything to suggest he can break it again. The risk of making the wrong appointment shouldn't be and isn't a reason to keep Moyes though. There are better managers out there than him and I think it's reasonable for clubs to want to try and obtain or seek that. Clubs like West Ham, us and others will see how Emery transformed Villa and think, why can't we have the same?

I don't see someone like Pochettino for example agreeing to join you. I'd imagine he'd have better offers if he decided to stop managing the US team (which I don't think he will anyway).

Moyes is one of the best paid managers in the world (really). Money talks in football. If you give the right manager a big wad of cash, they'll join.

See Ancelotti at Everton.

Feels like Everton are definitely getting the better deal here. I've always thought McNeil's ability is barely Premier League level. Unless Everton are paying a player-plus-cash deal?

So no money changing hands? Just a straight up swap deal? Not seen one of those in a very long time.

What an absolute failure Johnson's move to Palace was. I was talking him up at the time, thinking he'd do well and score quite a few goals for them. Career on a bit of a nosedive.

Bit of a strange one from Everton, the criticism of Johnson was always that he lacks work rate at times, goes missing a bit but is still there to put the ball in the net and take up dangerous positions. Everton and Moyes need/demand work rate I would have thought, they like grafters.

I for one am happy for McNeil's partner.

If Johnson plays for Everton like he did for Palace, and McNeil plays for Palace like he did for Everton, Palace have gained a squad player and Everton have gained a complete waste of space.

quite exquisite trolling , pour yourself a fine brandy

True. I'm not sure what was up with him at Palace, but that was the 4 months of poor form at a club he seemingly wasn't suited to. The sample size of appearances we've seen from Johnson and McNeil in the Premier League suggests that Everton have got the better deal.

Yeah McNeil feels like a classic Palace signing to me, we’ve had a lot of success signing solid Prem players and intermingling them with promising talents that we sell on. Best recent examples I can think of are Jordan Ayew and Jeff Schlupp who were valuable players for a long time without being spectacular, McNeil will fit in to that category pretty comfortably I think.

What I don’t get are the mechanics of the deal from a PSR perspective as we paid £35m for BJ in January and DM is not a £35m player. Neither is BJ obviously, but we pulled out of the McNeil deal at £15m in January, there must be more to it from a books perspective that’s making this attractive to Palace?

Johnson is a weird one, he can’t play as a number 10 so I get why we are moving him on but he can’t even do the basics right and hides from the ball most of the time, until he addresses that he’s in big trouble wherever he goes. I think it must be mental, still a player in there somewhere…possibly.

How freaking clueless are these owners (or the people running the club)? The fact they never sacked Moyes, this summer, sadly marks them down as incompetent with not much hope for the future.

The owners need to sack who they've got in charge of the club and start again, because it's blindingly obvious that Moyes is going to be sacked/leave way before the end of the season and they will be scrambliing to find someone to get 40 points. A complete waste of a time of a season.

Whole lot of them are clueless.

The lack of transfers and his seeming refusal to go after young up and coming players is so strange. He’d gladly blow the entire budget on a few 29-32yo

He’s bobbins, aside from a purple patch at Forest

It depends really. A lot of McNeils best work came as a number 10 and when he was on set pieces. He wasn't either of those with us last season because Garner is better at set pieces and KDH is better than him generally. He also wasn't good enough to play out wide.

Johnson is a much better fit for what we actually need - a RW - but I have seen the question marks surround him not being involved in games much and obviously at Palace he did struggle. Thing is though, McNeil has looked really really bad for us for a while and we just needed to get rid. If Johnson can get some of his Spurs output for us then we will have a player that gets the contribution that we need to have on the pitch because at Spurs he did show he can be quick and direct. It's up to us to get that out of him really.

What's funny about the deal is that both sets of fans are happy with the player they're getting rid of and happy with the player they're getting. It is weird though that you're happy to take a player that had one year on his deal for the player you just signed in Jan for a lot of money. I saw some rumours that we were interested in Munoz so maybe that's got something to do with it?

His output for Forest and Spurs from 21/22 to 24/25 is actually quite good. If we can get that out of him I'll be happy.

Sorry I meant forest not palace where he had a purple patch

I didn’t think that he was that good for spurs either. I hope that you guys aren’t relying on him for goals!

They have young and upcoming players but Moyes doesn’t play them, even when they look promising in small cameos.

Forest in the Championship 21/22, overall stats - 19 goals and 9 assists.
22/23 in the PL overall stats - 10 goals and 3 assists.
Spurs overall stats 23/24 - 5 goals and 11 assists.
24/25 overall stats - 18 goals and 7 assists.

His output over that period is just better than anything we have had or have in terms of forwards.

Fingers crossed for you guys. Times I’ve watched him he’s barely resembled a professional footballer

Neither did McNeil though. As said in the post, both sets of fans appear to be generally happy with what they're getting rid of and what they're obtaining.

Yeah interesting you mentioned that McNeil played well as a 10 as I expect he’ll get game time there for us. Nothing sexy about this transfer but as you say, it seems both players fit their new clubs/systems better than their former ones.

Are Everton going to sign Celtic's Johnston?

I've seen lots of him for Canada. He's such a solid, well rounded player. Good age, good physicality, and football intelligence. A bit of quality too.

Not only does he have one of the best full names to say out loud, but he's also said no to Saudi money. Got to respect it.

Wild 24 hours for Everton;

- Bid for Armstrong accepted, medical booked at Forest today

- Deal cancelled by the owners at the last minute due to fan reaction at Bournemouth game

- Deals for Ndiaye to leave to Spurs and Richarlison to go the other way agreed

This window is ridiculous isn’t it?

Everton clearly in desperate need to sell with the more worrying thing being the disconnect between management.

Why cancel? Makes no sense

Huge prospect, fans regard him as future of the club. Felt selling him was a disgrace, especially for £40m when they feel he’ll be worth much more in a Year or two. So fansnprotested after the game, and bombarded owners on all their social media posts after the game, including on their other businesses pages. Also the fact that Moyes /Kinnear/ownership have been useless all summer, Moyes has been miserable in every press conference and interview and likely would waste the money given to him on older players like Richarlson and Grealish. Just look how he’s treated Jake O’Brien, when his options as starting two centre halves include Michael Keane and Tarkowski. Legs are gone for both.
Their ownership are up there as the worth in the league, only interested in Roma (and even then, most Roma fans aren’t overly impressed with them).

The numbers in the Ndiaye-Richarlison deal are ridiculous.

What are Everton playing at?
If those numbers are true, they've somehow managed to get scammed by the worst negotiators in the transfer window this summer. Crazy stuff

Clearly Everton are worse negotiators than I thought. We should give them 25m and Ugarte for Garner.

Richarlison's goals to games ratio was actually fairly decent at Spurs after Kane left wasn't it? His problem there like the rest was picking up constant injuries.

Plus he basically saved Everton from relegation in 21/22 so will be largely welcomed back and be backed more by their fanbase than Beto or Barry with their erratic finishing.

In the short term it makes sense if they weren't losing Ndiaye to facilitate the deal.

Did they brief the Armstrong stuff for a bit of good PR before this horrendous deal came out

These owners are giving off red flags left and right. The club is cooked. No chance of doing anything with these owners. So, I guess same as it ever was? Just a pointless club to support. Waste of everyone's time.

Everton has over a billion in debt, of which 387 millions are short/medium term. The board hands are tied.

Grealish and Balogun in. Balogun should be some upgrade on that donkey Barry.
