Yeah I remember that well, and I have no doubt they had prior discussions about leaving etc, doesn't negate the fact that what she said would have pissed me off personally - it's akin to me coming home devastated being fired and having my wife saying "that's awesome, we can have a month long holiday now".

Just come across disrespectful and dispassionate towards your partner.
Yeah fair enough, but from an outside view it feels like Sir Alex was a big reason why he ended up staying, and his family for 4 more years than they initially planned. (2010 when the Madrid rumours were strong)

Seems like his wife never warmed to the city and was happy to leave and planning it for a while. She must have been frustrated when Patrice signed 4 years in 2010.

I get what you’re saying but they’ve probably spoke about leaving a lot, and this was the inevitable push to leave. Did end up staying for another year before leaving though. It’s a bit insensitive of her but she must have had strong reasons. Who knows?

If we’re honest it was best for both parties that he left at the time. There were signs of decline in 2012 season.

I find this hard to believe to be honest, I suspect we were being used for contract negotiations between Ronaldo and Real
I seriously doubt Ronaldo would make such commitments to what he still calls his second father if he didn't mean it.

If Juve truly want Pogba back, looking at the long term, they should consider a Pogba-Ronaldo swap. After all, Pogba has more career years left.

Well said.

If we're honest I dont think a wife of any footballer would choose Manchester as a place to be - so I have no doubt it's the topic of conversation for many of our players (probably British born too).

Think when Ronaldo was dating a women from Manchester - those were the only periods I felt comfortable about his future.

Mrs Evra comes across terribly in this. Who says that to their other half when they'd obviously be devastated?
And had an extravagant lifestyle beyond her wildest dreams because of him playing for us. Amazing.

Does anyone really believe we'd have been putting in 200m that summer on two players?

I hate stories like this, as you can't help but wonder what would have happened if we'd not made such an obviously insanely ridiculous appointment as Moyes. It didn't need any sort of hindsight for saying that - although no one realised just how bad it'd be.

Good it never happened. Would have stunted Januzaj's development

Rooney would have almost certainly have been shown the door that summer in order to balance things up a bit.

Imagine Ronaldo's face when Moyes told him 'You, you are quick and strong, run past their full back and put a lot of crosses in. Try to average 40 per game and at least one should become a goal'.

This makes no sense, because Ferguson was planning to retire in December of 2012.

So he wasn't coming back for another season.

I don't think you understand the relationship Sir Alex and Ronaldo have if you suspect that.
They have a good relationship, but let's not go OTT.

Ronaldo left Sir Alex and us when we were the top dogs in England and a powerhouse in Europe.

He left us to join a Real side that kept losing in the round of 16 in the Champions League.

I always feel you have to take some of these stories with a real pinch of salt.

We're also meant to believe Evra was wanting to leave, was gently told "you're staying another four years", and did just like that?
Makes a good story though, as does the certainty that Ronaldo and Bale were coming? Even though that late on we were well into the "value" lack of spending phase, even though Bale had shown no interest in us before, and even Moyes not being foolish enough to think it was both Ronaldo and Bale, but just one.

Losing to Comeback Winning!
After reading the article...

It's only from Evra's perspectives and memory of what SAF told him. Isn't it difficult to understand what SAF say at times. Also timeline may be not precise.

Similarly I'm confident Ronaldo wouldn't mind joining SAF back but not before he win everything at Real.

Evra said he asked Ronaldo about it and he said it was true

What’s wrong with living in Manchester. Seems like every of our players’ wives wanted to move out. I remember Vidic’s wife wanted to leave too.

He may still have been trying to get Ronaldo to come back though.

I assume he's been talking to Ronaldo from the previous summer - do one more year there type thing

I actually get sick just thinking about Moyes. Did he even get ONE thing right?

I don't believe he was coming back. Probably just told fergie yes as he didn't want to turn him down or disappoint him.

Why would Ronaldo want to move back for Fergie with only 1/2 years max?

Put in a transfer request under Fergie just before he announced his retirement. Would have been sold imo. Moyes kept him with a whopping new contract which I’m sure Sir Alex wouldn’t have approved

It’s a difficult one. On one hand, you could say no way we were spending circa £230m on Ronaldo + Bale but looking back in hindsight we clearly had the money. You could say SAF was retiring anyway but maybe he would’ve stayed one more year to win another Champions League. Lisbon ‘14 probably would’ve been our 4th.

Obviously Evras word apparently confirmed by both Ronaldo and SAF carries a lot of weight but it’s still a little hard to believe. Would Ronaldo as driven as he is left Madrid without being seen as a complete success and delivering la decima? If Bale was intent on joining us and IIRC we bid more than Real, why didn’t he push harder? Was it because SAF retired or was it because Levy wouldn’t sell to a rival.

It’s a very interesting piece nonetheless and if the deals had happened you would imagine we would have at least another European Cup and at least another two leagues.
