Max pole, be honest I would rather Hamilton be behind him down the first straight anyway.

The q result is a good representation of the current best drivers in F1. Hopefully George gets a seat to show his worth next season!

Provided he stays safe from injuries, could Russell be a future world champion? Get similar wow from him as the likes of a young Verstappen. Less reckless too.

Wasn't able to watch Quali today, but "Verstappen pips Russell to pole" was not a headline I expected to read :eek:

He's quick and a well rounded driver, hasn't had much luck at times and obviously has been in one of the worst cars on the grid. Him and Norris will be the next British hopes for a World Champion once Lewis is done.

Toto needs to stop messing about, the guy is ready.

Could a team like McLaren sign Russell if Mercedes (wrongly imo) keep Bottas? Ricciardo hasn't been great for them, though know he's just got 4th but overall he's struggled there.

Russell walks into any team if Mercedes drop him I guarantee you that now.

So pissed off for Norris.

Why they didn't red flag the session immediately?, why Mclaren sent him out first in heavy rain? It just seems such an unnecessary risk when he was absolutely flying today.

I really think had pole in the bag. Ugh.

Gutted about Norris, he was absolutely flying today, would have loved to have seen him on pole.

Fair play to Russell, that lap came out of nowhere.

Looks like Merc were struggling with the balance, that extra run in Q2 likely to cost them.

Russell and Norris really showed their talent today and have been consistent for a while. The only reason for Mercedes to choose Bottas is to keep Hamilton happy and commit to a number 1 driver but Russell literally couldn’t have done anything more to show he’s ready and that it’s time.

Dunno if you guys have been paying attention to what lewis and totto have both said in interviews with the media this week.

Lewis said that he understands Mercedes need to look at the short term but also consider the long term and give the new generation of Mercedes drives an opportunity. (Not a direct quote).

Totto said that Mercedes need to be cognizant that ferrari have next generation drivers, mclaren have lando, RB have max and Mercedes also need to consider the long term future. He also did defend bottas when asked if Bottas has underperformed in his time with Mercedes by only winning 9 races.

Martin Brundle thinks russell has gotten the nod for next season but Mercedes cant officially announce it as they need to keep bottas motivated to help them win the constructors and lewis win the drivers title.

Anyway in regards to qually, gutted that russell didnt get pole. He will move over sharpish tomorrow for lewis. Being on pole for spa isnt the best position, as your a sitting duck in the straight after eau rouge. The weather will play a huge factor tomorrow as Lewis setup is more dry focused than max's.

Shame for lando, could have been on pole or very close.

The future of f1 looks like being, lando, lecerc, max and russell when lewis is gone. They could all be WDCs with some good fortune and luck.
