At St George's Park
Kick off at 19:45 GMT
Live on BT Sport but MUTV will also be showing United's semi-final in full, in the UK, from 22:00 GMT on Friday.

“Only those boys registered to play with us last year are eligible to play,” clarified lead coach Neil Ryan. “We've got a lot of new signings but, unfortunately, they can't get a crack at the competition until December, when we start the tournament again.
“They'll be a bit disappointed seeing the game and wishing they were part of it but that's it, it's the same for Chelsea so we regroup and go again. We'll look at it like it's a final really and go into that game focusing on that one game, there's no extra-time as it's just 90 minutes and then penalties.”

In terms of team news, some players who missed last season's competition through injury are now available - including forward Anthony Elanga. Teden Mengi has been with the first-team squad but is eligible, as, technically, is striker Mason Greenwood!

However, Ryan will assemble his group and plan accordingly for the big occasion, knowing he will still have a selection headache even if keeper Ondrej Mastny has provided a boost by reporting fit after being taken off in the Premier League 2 win over Everton with a knock.
“We've had changes to the group,” said the lead coach. “Some boys have left the club and some of them were injured, Anthony Elanga, for example, and he's in really good form for the Under-23s. Teden Mengi is around the first-team squad and is doing fantastic.

“Ondrej is going to be okay. He was fine and has trained and will be available for selection.
“It's a big squad of boys,” he continued. “We need a squad of 18 selected for the game, with seven subs but only three can get on. There will be disappointment for some of them but it's an opportunity to train hard and push themselves into the starting line-up.

“The change over the last eight months or so, physically, over lockdown due to the programmes they all worked on, you can see it in them. Shola Shoretire and Omari Forson were schoolboys last season but Shola has been a regular in the Under-23s and Omari is playing a lot of Under-18s football. It's a big step from schoolboy to young professional football they've taken and it's the same for a number of boys. it'll be interesting to see how well we match up against them.”

United have lifted the trophy a record 10 times, with Chelsea one behind on nine. The west Londoners won it seven times between 2010 and 2018.

I don’t think Mengi or Greenwood (wouldn’t anyway) can play. Due to the first team
COVID bubble.

Wouldn't have thought the first team bubble would get in the way since Rojo, Mengi and Pellistri played for the under 23s last week and that's a separate bubble as well (they just travelled separately and didn't go in the changing room with the rest of the players).

Looked a bit at Chelsea - and against Millwall in the quarter they had the following team:

Chelsea (3-4-2-1) Jake Askew; Henry Lawrence, Dynel Simeu, Levi Colwill (Dion Rankine 61); Valentino Livramento, Lewis Bate, Xavier Simons, Ian Maatsen; Faustino Anjorin (c), Marcel Lewis; Armando Broja (Thierno Ballo 90)
Unused subs Sam McClelland, Ethan Wady, Bashir Humphreys, Myles Peart-Harris, Bryan Fiabema

2 of the players that started the game are out on loan - Maatsen is at Charlton and the Albanian striker Broja is at Vitesse

Bashir Humphreys who started on the bench against Millwall in the quarter-final is the captain of the U18-side so he might start today

Just noticed that Bryan Fiabema has been knocking in a lot of goals at reserve-level - so he will almost certainly start for Chelsea today

Weird how there used to be no Xavier Simons and now there are two.

Very, very solid defense. Wonder why we didn't have Emeran on the bench for this. Could have been a nice attacking option on the bench..

Lucky to escape conceding a peno. Blatant handball not spotted by ref.

Can’t get out of their own half at the moment

So they're not allowed to be in the same changing room but they're allowed to play together on the pitch where they'll be in close contact with everyone else?

This rule is just stupid.

Yeah it's a bit silly when you think about it that way, but sweat doesn't transmit, and players are rarely close to each other for longer periods of time.
So any measures that could possibly help.

for the aformentioned U23 game, the trio from the first team arrived individually by car, got changed in separate dressing room, and Neil Wood had to give them a separate team talk as well. Then they had to wait for all their team-mates to go onto the pitch before they could walk out.

Well the risk is far higher indoors than it is outdoors in terms of passing on the virus

Our players look terrified. It really shouldn’t be this hard to deal with a high-press.

Chelsea utterly dominating so far. Plenty of practice for Mengi though.

Backs to the wall with Fish, poor at the back with some horrendous passes which should've been punished.
