FA Youth Cup Vs Sunderland at Old Trafford

Haven’t come out of the locker room yet this half. Very poor from United.

CB's are not good enough and keeper should focus more on dominating in the air than passing to opponents.

I still think we will turn this around - but it has been a really bad performance so far

Commentators saying he didn’t mean that finish. He had a bad touch and was lucky to get it back, but the finish was definitely intentional.

3-2 United - Brown. Very similar to the Cunha-goal from a few weeks back - hammered it into the top corner from a very tight angle

If we dont win this game - Obi will not sleep tonight. Some of his misses tonight have been shocking

They are all so selfish, could have been three goals more if they passed each other

It’s been like that throughout the Youth Cup with the attackers, they’ve been getting away with it so far. Actually thought it was one of JJ’s less selfish games ironically.

Luckily they are playing academy football.

JJ, Chido, and Ajayi are naturally selfish players. Junior Brown less so. A senior team can't thrive with too many selfish players.

Agree in Brown tbf. Not great to see but I think it’s the sort of thing that often gets stamped out once they’re with more senior players. Right now they’ve got main character syndrome.

To be fair, Ajayi improved throughout the game having started badly.

JJ Gabriel was reasonably unselfish until the last 10 mins.

Chido was Chido. By far the worst offender tonight.

Brown was pretty unselfish apart from one shot where he could have laid it off.

Not true.

I mean, he looked decent. One of the better players out there. But I was responding to posts implying he looked a level above every player on the pitch. Which definitely wasn’t the case tonight.

I think it was around this time last season when Max Dowman really did look a level above every other player in an FA youth cup game. That performance was in a different league to what Gabriel produced tonight.

Oh look, Gabriel picks up a smart position and uses the ball well, progressive pass and we're in
It's a simple pass, but most of our senior players would have taken a needless extra touch there. Only Bruno would play it at same time and possibly Mbeumo and Case. It is also exactly right angle and pace, almost goes wrong because Chido makes a wrong run and goal scorer takes too long of a first touch (makes up for it and then some with the finish).

Gabriel by far the best player in first half and still best the whole match. The first touch, the movement, the passing, the dribbling, the understanding of space (and shooting in previous matches) all there.

He most definitely was in the first half. Were you paying total attention to the game or slightly busy with family/other scrolling/cl? There were so many nyances to his game that would be easy to miss if that was the case.

Full disclosure. I didn’t watch the first 20 minutes. So maybe his performance was front loaded? For the hour or so I did watch he really didn’t stand out that much. Not to say he’s not an incredible talent. Just giving an opinion on how he looked in tonight’s game (well, three quarters of it anyway!)

Completely agree. His use of the ball was better than anyone else tonight. With the assist he did the hard work by positioning himself and having the picture in his mind already. Constantly supporting play, apart from later in the game with Chido when he dropped his intensity because he clearly didn't believe he'd receive a pass

That said, Ajayi was probably man of the match for his goal and dribbling threat after scoring. Definitely more of a traditional Manchester United attacking player.

His 2 best touches probably came in that time, mbeumo-esque. Yeah not as good in the second half as first. The dribble late was great but 4th defender around him got a touch before he could shoot. His performance certainly wouldn't make a great highlight-reel, but just great decisions after another, with and without the ball. Full package. Didn't know his passing and decision making was that good, first full match I watched from him.

Ajayi started poorly, thwaites also. Chido made loads of wrong choices and bad touches. Number 7 was shit apart from the winner.

They are kids. They grow up, learn, gain experience, and then see the bigger picture.

How do you know that? People always think youth players will change so much. "Rashford will learn and get smarter". I'm pretty sure Obi always will lack in game intelligence and shoot at every opportunity.
