Aaah how did Greenwood looked. Missed the game. Been out to travel with friends a bit.

I think it is first friendly so should not judge too much. We have more friendlies to see.
He was almost invisible. Had one shot where Mata looked disappointed that he didn’t play him back in. Played all across the front. Didn’t press. Taken off at half time. First game back so I’m not reading too much into it but I want to see him steaming into teams for preseason if he’s going to make my fpl. Too many good players who should play nearly every game for 7.5. Mason has competition here and he’s been a slow starter each season.

We will see how Cavani looks. I am thinking about maybe going without Bruno for better balance, but want one attacker from us.

So far I've arrived at a skewed formation.

Sanchez
Digne-Shaw-Robertson-TAA-Williams
Bruno-Salah
Cavani-DCL-Watkins

Might be unbalanced, but 10 great players in there

I think I would downgrade Robertson and maybe a striker and add another midfielder with some quality and upgrade Brandon Williams unless he gets a loan.

Looks a bit whack tbh, Watkins and DCL are very streaky and Cavani wont play every game, i'd consolidate them into Kane.

I have two interesting sides. Which one do you guys like the most?

Sanchez Bachmann
Digne Shaw Cancelo TAA Coufal
Salah Bruno Raphinha Smith Rowe Brownhill
Watkins Welbeck Toney

Or this side.

Martinez Sanchez
Digne Robertson TAA Shaw Coufal
Brownhill Salah Grealish Raphinha Smith Rowe
Cavani Welbeck DCL

So the difference is Martinez vs Bachmann, Robertson vs Cancelo then Cavani/Grealish vs Watkins and Bruno. Then DCL vs Toney.

I think Cancelo and Cavani can potentially match Robertson and Bruno, but the rotation might be bad for them both.
Watkins vs Grealish hard to call. Two strong keepers can be annoying that I have to bench one every week, but if there is Covid I am covered.
DCL feels like a good pick potentially, but I mainly have him for fixtures. Toney not fully proven. Could go Nacho instead or even Wilson.

I'd be very surprised if Cancelo and Cavani match Robertson and Bruno for points. I think you're kidding yourself a bit there. Robertson & Bruno is 400 point player combination if they play a full season.

* Unles you mean Bruno & Cancelo v Robertson & Cavani which isn't as clear cut.

Actually Cancelo had higher points per match than Robertson last season. Problem is Liverpool got better fixtures to start with.

I think when Cavani plays he is the most likely guy to score from open play for us. Bruno got pens and higher assist potential and good for bonus, but if Cavani gets a run in the game I think he can match Bruno before CL and rotation starts.

What is the biggest problem with Cavani is that when he do not start he will come from the bench and block your bench player. Same with Jota, Greenwood,Foden etc.

I just have a feeling Cavani will start strong this time with a pre season and having Sancho, Bruno etc feeding him. I might go Sancho though if he is 9-10 and not more.

Tried it for the first time last season. Enjoyed it as I did it with 3 of my friends.

It’s basically like a proper draft system where only one team can have each player. So only one of us can have Bruno, one of us can get Salah etc etc.
I am doing that this year for sure. Is it better to play head to head or overall?

That stat doesn't really mean anything though unless you can accurately predict what matches he will play.

Agree about Cavani and I really think he'll score a fair few this season but like you say he'll also get a lot of 1 pointers as well. I just think there are too many strikers at that price point and lower who are nailed to take the risk.

What it says though is that when Walker or Zinchencho starts they normally do not bring on Cancelo for them.

Thus Cancelo mostly either plays or get benched. With Cavani it is different. Thus if I have Coufal on my bench or Smith Rowe I have pretty good cover.

I predict since Walker reached the final maybe Cancelo will be first choice as the season starts? Although I now remember Cancelo got dropped near the end of last season in CL. Thus maybe Pep do not rate him as highly?
Maybe I go Wan Bissaka and Shaw instead, but then I got a bit too many players from us if we get Covid.

At Kane's price you are basically looking at best at something like Kane + Toney + fodder. I'm not sure that's better than having 3 reliable strikers. I'd swap Cavani for someone cheaper though and upgrade Williams or get a mid. Kane at 12.5m has to score 35+ goals this season to be worth it IMO (or get like 30+10).

Don't forget captaincy. Kane offers that, none of the other strikers do.

Kane and Toney sounds like a set and forget forward line tbh.

Funny you should say that, I saw someone put the highest scoring player for every week up on Twitter the other day and there were hardly any strikers in there at all. Mostly mids and quite a few defenders. I'm not actually sure that Kane was in there either which surprised me.

Can't find it now but it was interesting reading.

To be fair to Kane he exploded like crazy some games. Southampton, West Ham, Crystal Palace.

Third draft  :wenger:

Meslier (Steele)
Digne Shaw Lamptey (Ayling, Williams)
Salah, Bruno, Grealish, Trincao, (raphinha)
Watkins, Toney, DCL.

going to rotate between Ayling and Lamptey to avoid top 10. Williams is last sub.

Decent tactical flexibility there and the fixtures look solid for the first few weeks. Toying with downgrading Raphinha for Gilmour and upgrading Trincao for Jota due to their easy start but I’m pretty much happy apart from that. I have a nagging feeling that Joao Pedro for 5.5 is going to be similar value to Toney which would allow me a defensive upgrade but happy enough to leave it at that if we were starting tomorrow

Williams? Brandon Williams?
Si, si. I think he'll be loaned to Soton and play regularly all season. Could use a 4.5 midfielder instead.

Don't think i'll do that squad, but it is an interesting one that could have very high ceiling if they fire. Every player is quite expensive, which means it's easy to downgrade for flavor of the weeks players. Only two real midfielders though, so it could be one of those wildcard at week 4/5 squads too

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"
I think the strategy this year is to have two premiums and rotate who you got based on form and fixtures.

3 feels a bit much.
I'm with you.

First draft. Thoughts? (especially @Sandikan as I know he won't hold back)

Read some very good pieces on avoiding too many transfers early on due to impact on squad value/funds (there's one such piece in the FPL app actually).

So, aim is to pick a 15 (not an 11) for the first 5+ weeks. Looked at FDR as well, but will have a closer look later at first 10 GWs and see who plays/who's dropped.. may get a Ben Crellins spreadsheet.

Some 50/50s

Mendy v Ederson

Harrison v Soucek (FDR?)

Cavani or have faith in Jesus?

Toney could be another Watkins (come to the PL, hit it) but Brentford aren't Villa

Is Konate a starter?

Agree on Toney, could be the new Mitrovic too. Loads of tap ins. Ill stay away.

Yeah I'm on Bruno and Salah. I just meant that Kane is the only Captain contender from the strikers.

Surely Kane was there for the week AFTER the DGW where everyone Captain him? I think it was against Villa... So funny that was.

Thanks!

I've made:

Sanchez
Shaw Coady Holding
Fernandes Tielemans Mount Grealish
Wood Cavani Kane

How do i join Redcafes league?
Good luck mate. I like that you going 3 United and 0 Liverpool/City/Leeds haha. Proper fan play. I did the same my first few years

I think there is some things for you to think about. Wood might be going to Olympics I think so might miss games early on (google it to be sure). Coady and Holding are pretty dull picks since they rarely score more than maybe1 goal per season. If you have money to get better defenders I would do that. I think Coady is captain and play every game so if you like Wolves chances to not concede goals he is not bad and Holding might not play every game now with White. Thus consider maybe getting White.

I think you have too much money on keepers. 4.5 is usually enough. Some even go with 4.5 plus 4.0. I like two 4.5 in case one of them suck so I can play the best one and also have cover for Covid, rotations, red cards, injuries etc. Using transfers on keepers I want to avoid so having two usually one is good enough that you do not bother getting another one. Then on wildcard you can change them to get one that have impressed.

I think one thing with Mendy is that he got hard games which could be good for saves. The thing is a cheap keeper with easy fixtures might still get saves and have a chance for clean sheets.

In general my first rule in fantasy is often to spend little money on keepers since the cheap ones always make most saves on average. If I want a defensive player from a top team I go for a defender.

Also by downgrading Mendy to Sanchez or Bachmann as an example you can do Konate to TAA or Robertson which feels much stronger.

The one thing with Chelsea is they rotate defenders a lot so going Chilwell might not be better than Mendy even with his attacking ability.

This video I did find on goalkeepers. . It is really good I think and show the problem of picking goalkeepers.

For me though I love going cheap with good/medium fixtures and hope they get save points and clean sheets. Trying to predict save points in games is really tricky, but some keepers like Pope and Martinez are really good at making saves.

Why do you think Williams would even be a starter if he joined Southampton? They have better fullbacks. He is a trap at 4.0m.

Annoyingly, when people post screenshots I can't see it through the laptop at work as it violates the rules.

However, looking on the the phone that looks quite an interesting differential team.

Havertz could explode.
Buendia could prove to be more cost effective than Grealish.
Not sure how expensive Konate is, but he like White are good ways in to teams near the top.

Maybe you're giving yourself a difficult selection in defence each week though. That's 5 players either expensive or from big teams, so most weeks you're leaving 2 out.
Digne always seems to flatter to return to me.

Midfield perhaps a little weak if anything. Missing that second "guaranteed" big hitter unless one of the differentials pays off.

Cavani i love for Man Utd, but he strikes me as Costa-lite in fantasy footy. A 1 goal a game max man. And surely won't play every week.

We did head to head, so can’t comment on overall. I finished second in my 4 league head to head, but if it was overall then I’d have won.
I think the fact it shows in the table your overall points means that you have the luxury of knowing the overall winner anyway.

I like head to head after last season. In my last draft league I won the last game of the season with 1 point which gave me the win in the league with 1 point in total even though I was not the highest scoring side in total.

Both could be boring if someone nails all the best players.
