This song specifically? Can you link the thread? Haven't seen it :)

Budden is absolutely fantastic.
Not the song (there was a strict "no Youtube" policy), but the entire mixtape. I consider MM2/MM3 to be his best work. As for the thread...

https://www.redcafe.net/threads/hec...ease-read-op-not-for-youtube-vids-etc.165805/

Here's Hectic introducing Budden to the thread with another song off of MM3

feck sakes, now I'll have to listen to this on the way home

Cypress Hill always used to impress me with their verses when they first became popular here (Black Sunday era).

Slick Rick was the first that I actually purposely listened to every lyric though, him and KRS One.

Can't say I'm too clued up about Hip hop though aside from the usual suspects. I definitely don't know the ones doing the rounds now.

I’ve always loved Public Enemy’s Harder Than You Think:
Rolling Stones of the rap game, not bragging
Lips bigger than Jagger, not saggin'
Spell it backwards, I'ma leave it at that
That ain't got nothing to do with rap
Check the facts, expose those cats
Who pose as heroes and take advantage of blacks
Your government's gangster, so cut the crap
A war going on so where y'all at?
"Fight the Power" comes great responsibility
'F the Police' but who's stopping you from killing me?
Disaster, fiascos over a loop by P.E
If it's an I instead of we believing TV
Spitting riches, bitches, and this new thing about snitches
Watch them asses move as the masses switches
System dissed them but barely missed her
My sole intention to save my brothers and sisters

And if there's crack in a basement
Crack heads stand adjacent
Anger displacement
Food Stamp arrangements
You were a still born baby
Mother didn't want you, but you were still born
Boy meets world, of course his pops is gone
What you figga
That chalky outline on the ground is a father figure
So he steps to the next stencil, that's a hustler
Infested with money and diamond cluster
Lets talk in laymen terms
Rotten apples and big worms
Early birds and poachers
New York is evil at it's core, so those who have more than them
Prepare to be vic-tims
Ate up by vultures, the politicians
In a dog eat dog culture, that'll sick 'em
Lack of mineral, we take it personal
A pigeon can't drop shit if it never flew
Every day is no frills, empty krills
Broken 40 bottles and m.c's with skills
I rest my head on 115
But miracles only happen on 34th, so I guess life is mean
And death is the median
And purgatory is the mode that we settle in
"No doubt"
I've got that Eve's Bayou sense of touch
So I fought, to touch every hand of a fan to read their thoughts
Battered wives, molested children
Roaches on the floor, rats in the ceiling
Cats walk around New York with two fillin's
One is in their mouth the other, does the killin'
I'm Vast Air, Kramer, top billin'

Great track, The Cold Vein is a brilliant album and shows that El-P was doing great stuff long before RTJ.

Earl Sweatshirt - Knight; great verse lyrically but love how the vocals slow down in both verses.
Pharoahe Monch - Ghost Weed Skit (De La Soul - Art official intelligence Mosaic Thump) #1
How many nxxxs who will actually kill still rhymin?
How many nxxxs who are actually signed still killin? ..
.. and when it comes to killin a mic, they ain't willin
And I'm supposed to be shook? That's the shit that kills me
Take a bullet for X in the ballroom and then vanish
Extinguish the sun when I drool, play pool with the planets
Triskadekaphobia lyrics, outlandish
My shit straight from the soul, god damnit
It's the one time only, vernacular original
Spectacular miraculous flow, computer digital
I ridicule the pitiful, piss upon the miniscule
Pharoahe Monch, better park that ass like municipal

2PAC verse 1 on 'Wordz of Wisdom' (1991)
This is for the masses, the lower classes
The ones you left out, jobs were giving, better living
But we were kept out

Made to feel inferior, but we're superior
Break the chains in our brains that made us fear ya
Pledge allegiance to a flag that neglects us
Honour a man that that refuses to respect us
Emancipation Proclamation? Please!
Lincoln just said that to save the nation

These are lies that we all accepted
Say no to drugs but the governments' kept it
Running through our community, killing the unity
The war on drugs is a war on you and me

And yet, they say this is the Home of The Free
But if you ask me, it's all about hypocrisy

The constitution, yo, it don't apply to me
And Lady Liberty? Stupid bitch lied to me
This made me strong, and no one's gonna like what I'm pumpin'
But its wrong to keep someone from learning something
So get up, its time to start nation building
I'm fed up, we gotta start teach the children
That they can be all that they wanna to be
There's much more to life than just poverty

It's the return of the black Moors with no fez
Scary like that documentary on Lisa Lopez
Pentagrams, pyramids, conspiracies with goat heads
Knock down the levees
Knock down the projects
Start another project
Build another object
A drive-thru touchscreen doctrine for me to digest
Just horses with our blinders on
Drivin' by the obvious
Ridin' by the obvious
Flyin' by the obvious (uh huh)
Regardless who you vote for
If the mind don't grow
And the poverty line don’t go
But the dope keep coming
And the tv keep flashing images of a sports car
Then you bound for a coke war
The meek get clowned by the coke law
The sheep get drowned in the folklore
Then lulled to sleep by Tom Brokaw
What a pity, the hope on a politician's tongue
Never ever trickles down the city
So if a nigga put a president's mask on
And run up in the bank with a Mac saying "gimme gimme!"
I ain't glad at him
But I ain't mad at him
(I ain't mad at him)
If anybody ask you who I be
Say a painter with a felt pen who drew Ali
I'm like Cassius when I blast molasses
Out the ass of the masses
From Fulton Street Mall to Gratiot
I'm handin out free at last kits
Yo, Jay, where ya staff at?
Green said you threw it
Yeah, I outgrew it
Some blogs said, “you blew it”
Nigga, feck yo' blog
Jigga man said you can't knock the hustle, dog
I'm on the same launchin' pad that shot Russell off
That's why I stay dougie
That's why I stay dougie
That's why I stay dougie
Lyrics explained here.

Mr cheeks 1sy verse of Renee.
Good shout. I don't know if it's really underrated, but you never about Legal Drug Money. It's a strong album! Apart from Renèe, Lost Boyz weren't that impressive lyrically but they are a good listen.

Generic choice but Biggie's first verse on Unbelievable is fecked. Preem has got so many crazy beats but this was a match made in heaven.

I'm not normally the one for overly deep hip-hop but I always liked this from Juggaknots
Ahh reminds me of summer and being young.

Slim Thug for being the ultimate g. It's just good production, but that lyric roll at 0.28 is still gassed.

Joe Budden - More of Me

While I'm at it, let me tell you 'bout this angel I met
She was fly, from every angle was fresh
And the way that she was jammin' to the song called 'I'm Not Perfect' made me wanna know what her imperfections were
Now listen, and they weren't hard to find, y'all
Both parents were addicts like mine are
Mi-nor, but her story wasn't new to me
Most her life, shorty was homeless like I used to be
Could tell she never felt appreciated
Looked too much like her dad, was her mom's least favorite
Picture a bond supposed to be sacred
Lookin' up at your mom's eyes and seein' hatred
Pop left when she was young
Well, she still young and he still gone, keep it a hundred
While I'm just amazed that a woman so beautiful
Could go through such ugliness and not become it
World keeps spinnin', learned sinners keep sinnin'
And I can't even tell her some fights ain't fight worthy
'Cause my pops got 20 years clean
But her pops got 20 years dirty
She moved to Jersey where he happens to reside
Thinkin' they'll be closer, but it's only fiction
'Cause she so young all it does is cause friction
God picked the right nigga though to teach about addiction
Years ago she shoulda been on homi' watch
So check the time out, just not on Mommy watch
'Cause someone beat her ass for years, someone calmly watched
Nah, stepdaddy beat her ass, Mommy watched
I keep her closer than ever, she always next to me
Bisexual, comfortable sexually
I’m talkin' more comfortable than she should ever be
Especially considered the fact she was molested three
Times, some things a picture doesn’t tell
Can’t be worth a thousand words or her pictures might yell
Y’all see a pretty face on Instagram
I see a girl that should be scarred, never lent a hand
There go God’s work again, how’d he know I need that?
How the feck did he pick her to walk me through a relapse?
Believe me, shorty, I’ll kill for you if need be
And I need you much more than you would ever think you need me
What I do for you is tangible, shit that you can gain
You for me, not understandable, it's shit I can’t explain
Some folk don’t see the effect in that
Some say I’m usin' you, they’d be correct in that
But what for they’ll never know
It’s deeper than nude pics, it’s somethin' I would never show

Nas is like - 2nd verse.

"Nas is like.." Earth Wind & Fire, rims and tires
Bulletproof glass, inside is the realest driver
Planets in orbit, line em up with the stars
Tarot cards, you can see the pharaoh Nas
"Nas is like.." Iron Mike, messiah type
Before the Christ, after the death
The last one left, let my cash invest in stock
Came a along way from blastin, techs on blocks
Went from Seiko to Rolex, ownin acres
From the projects with no chips, to large cake dough
Dimes, givin fellatio, siete zeros
Bet my nine spit for the pesos
But what's it all worth, can't take it when you under this Earth
Rich men died and tried, but none of it worked
They just rob your grave, I'd rather be alive and paid
Before my number's called, history's made
Some'll fall, but I rise, thug or die
Makin choices, that determine my future under the sky
To rob steal or kill, I'm wondering why
It's a dirty game, is any man worthy of fame?
Much to success to ya, even if you wish me the opposite
Sooner or later we'll all see who the prophet is
For me, the greatest rapper of all time.

Nas is like - 2nd verse.

For me, the greatest rapper of all time.
Nas Is Like, imo, is as pure of a hip-hop track as you're going to get.
Everything from the beat, the flow, the video, the lyrics, the imagery etc. Is the embodiment of hip-hop.

Also agree, he's by far my favourite rapper and quite easily a contender for the greatest also.

The last verse in Childish Gambino’s Heartbeat. Best in recent times. Even Kendrick has a few ones but this is better.

Any verse from this, the flow and lyrics blow my mind every time. That coupled with the beat puts it up there with my all time favourites.

Oh yeah, this is Eminem baby, back up in that motherfecking ass
One time for your motherfecking mind, we represent the 313
You know what I'm saying?
'Cause they don't know shit about this
For the 9-6

Ayo, my pen and paper 'cause a chain reaction
To get your brain relaxing, a zany acting maniac in action
A brainiac in fact son, you mainly lack attraction
You look insanely whack when just a fraction of my tracks run
My rhyming skills got you climbing hills
I travel through your mind into your spine like siren drills
I'm sliming grills of roaches, with sprayed on disinfectants
Twist the necks of rappers 'til their spinal column disconnects
Put this in decks and check the monologue, turn your system up
Twist them up, and indulge in the marijuana smoke
This is the season for noise pollution contamination
Examination of more cartoons than animation
My lamination of narration
Hit's a snare and bass in a track fecked up rapper interrogation
When I declare invasion, there ain't no time to be stare and gazing
I turn the stage into a barren wasteland...
I'm infinite

You heard of hell well I was sent from it
I went to it serving a sentence for murderin' instruments
Now I'm trying to repent from it
But when I hear the beat I'm tempted to make another attempt at it...
I'm infinite

Bust it, I let the beat commence so I can beat the sense in your elite defense
I got some meat to mince, a crew to stomp and two feet to rinse
I greet the gents and ladies, I spoil loyal fans
I foil yo plans and leave fluids leaking like oil pans
My coil hands around this microphone are lethal
One thought in my cerebral is deeper then a Jeep full of people
MCs are feeble, I came to 'cause some pandemonium
Battle a band of phony MCs and stand the lonely one
Imitator, intimidator, stimulator, simulator of data, eliminator
There's never been a greater since the burial of Jesus
feck around and catch all the venereal diseases
My thesis will smash a stereo to pieces
My accapella releases classic masterpieces through telekinesis
And eases you mentally, gently, sentimentally, instrumentally
With entity, dementedly meant to be infinite

You heard of hell well I was sent from it
I went to it serving a sentence for murderin' instruments
Now I'm trying to repent from it
But when I hear the beat I'm tempted to make another attempt at it...
I'm infinite

Man I got evidence I'm never dense and I been clever ever since
My residence was hesitant to do some shit that represents the M-O
So I'm assuming all responsibility
'Cause there's a monster will in me that always wants to kill MCs
Mic messaler, slamming like a wrestler
Here to make a mess of a lyric smuggling embezzler
No one is specialer, my skill is intergalactical
I get cynical act a fool then I send a crew back to school
I never packed a tool or acted cool, it wasn't practical
I'd rather let a tactical, tactful track tickle your fancy
In fact I can't see, or can't imagine
A man who ain't a lover of beats or a fan of scratching
So this is for my family, the kid who had a cameo on my last jam
Plus the man who never had a plan B
Be all you can be, 'cause once you make an instant hit
I'm tensed a bit and tempted when I see the sins my friends commit...
I'm infinite

You heard of hell well I was sent from it
I went to it serving a sentence for murderin' instruments
Now I'm trying to repent from it
But when I hear the beat I'm tempted to make another attempt at it...
I'm infinite
You heard of hell well I was sent from it
I went to it serving a sentence for murderin' instruments
Now I'm trying to repent from it
But when I hear the beat I'm tempted to make another attempt at it...
I'm infinite

Nas - Life We Chose 2nd verse

What's love, when you don't give your man enough dough?
He want to stick you
What's love, you got beef?
Nobody rolling wit you
What's love, you locked up, and your family don't care
Is love a four-letter word, that deceives the air?
What's real, when you know your man's girl is a hoe
And you don't even let him know, cause you fecked her befo'
What's real, when you talk behind a man's back
Then you see him and give him dap, now explain that?
What's trust, when they separate your case
When you at your court date, your co-de', can't look in your face
What's trust, when you keep your wife away from your man?
And he never crossed you, but you claiming he's fam'?
What's trust, when you get bust, your niggas don't retaliate?
They blaze purple haze with em the next day?
God forbid one of my niggas get hit, I'ma go haywire
Won't hesitate, I'ma spray fire
But everybody's different, you won't know how you react
Til you in that position, and that's an actual fact
The hearts of men change as time goes on, who's wrong?
You was hungry when you stuck Duke, he came back to buck you
Who's wrong? Foul all your life, now you 90
On your deathbed you regret being grimy
What's lust, a bust nut? What's a thug?
A ghetto child raised around drugs, til he's old enough to bust slugs?
Then what's jail, to rehabilitate, or to make a nigga worse
When he come home to catch another case?
Life's about decisions, you choose it, you gotta live it
You did it, heaven or hell or prison
Who knows when your clock'll stop tickin', get your weight up
Save up before it's over neighbor, I told ya
You getting older player, look at those who gave up

Pretty much any line from Easy E's "Real Muthaphukkin G's", the lyrics in that are fantastic. Particularly:

You're like a kid, you found a pup, and now you're dapper, but tell me, where the fcuk you found an anorexic rapper?

Also, like Obie Trice (Dr Dre), Sh!t Hits the Fan, "you gotta jump and swing up to hit me in the knees"

Not my favourite song, but Em's second verse on Criminal was insanely good. Slim Shady peaked right there. The 3rd verse is also ridiculously great. That multisyllabic wordplay that nobody has ever done better.

My mother did drugs, hard liquor, cigarettes, and speed
The baby came out, disfigured ligaments indeed
It was a seed who would grow up just as crazy as she
Don't dare make fun of that baby 'cause that baby was me
I'm a criminal
An animal caged who turned crazed
But how the feck you supposed to grow up when you weren't raised?
So as I got older and I got a lot taller
My dick shrunk smaller, but my balls got larger
I drink more liquor to feck you up quicker
Than you'd want to feck me up for sayin' the word
My morals went, when the president got oral
Sex in his oval office on top of his desk
Off of his own employee
Now don't ignore me, you won't avoid me
You can't miss me, I'm white, blond-haired
And my nose is pointy
I'm the bad guy, who makes fun of people that die
In plane crashes and laughs
As long as it ain't happened to him
Slim shady, I'm as crazy as Em-
Inem and kim combined, "The maniac's in"
Replacin' the doctor cause dre couldn't make it today
He's a little under the weather, so I'm takin' his place
(mm-mm-mm!) oh, that's Dre with an AK to his face
Don't make me kill him too and spray his brains all over the place
I told you Dre, you should've kept that thing put away
I guess that will teach you not to let me play with it, eh?
I'm a criminal
Alright look (uh huh) just go up in that motherfecker
Get the motherfeckin' money and get the feck up outta there

Nas - Take it in Blood 3rd Verse

Yo the time is wasting, I use the mind elevation
Dime sack lacing, court pen pacing
Individual, lyrical math abrasion
Psychic evaluation, the foulest nation
We living in dangerous lives, mad leak and battered wives
A lifestyle on bad streets is patternized
Wise men build and destroy
While the real McCoy dope fiend named Detroit is still dealing boy
Coke suppliers acting biased
Cause rumors say that niggas wear wires and we liars
But every night the gat's fired and every day a rat's hired
I still remain the mack flyest in the phat Kani's
Just a killer in me, slash drug dealer MC
Ex-slug filler, semi mug peeler
Demi, bottles of Mo', yo simply follow me flow
Put poetry inside a crack pot and blow
Rough hoes pull crack out pussies and buttholes
Bring the G's and the D's roll, they can't touch those
Why shoot the breeze about it when you could be about it
My degrees are routed, toward the peasy haired brick houses
Instead of the fake medallions
Rich niggas transport in thousands
Foreign cash exchange amounting to millions
Doors is locked, rocks is chopped, watch the cameras in the ceilings
Trick bitches catching mad feelings
Peeling off in the Lex Jeep, techniques is four-wheeling
I bet it be some shit when we connect with Stretch
When we catch them sex niggas with the TECs you blessed, word
So now it's on, never wasted a slug
Time is money when it comes to mine, take it in blood

A lot of love for this song & album. The mafioso rap era was fantastic and born a lot of my favourite ever hip hop albums (with this one being my all time favourite). This song is just awesome, the way he carries the beat, his rhyming schemes and the images painted... Just amazing. A good way of judging music like this is how it males you feel involved, and in IWW and Illmatic, Nas perfectly makes a white English guy like myself feel the true brute of growing up in the NY projects.

Gangsta' Dresta's verse in Real Muthaphukkin G's is straight fire :

Just a snippet from the greatest diss track of all time

Aint broke a law if yo life, yet everytime you rap you yap about the guns and the knifes

Just take take a good look at the, n***a and you'll capture, the fact that the bastard, is simply just an actor, who mastered the bang and slang and mental, of n***as in compton, watts and south central

J Cole - 4 Your Eyez Only last verse.

One day your daddy called me, told me he had a funny feeling
What he'd been dealing with lately, he wasn't telling
I tried to pick his brains, still he wasn't revealing
But I could feel the sense of panic in his voice
And it was chilling, he said:
"Jermaine, I knew you since we was children
I never asked for nothing, when times was hard
I never had discussions with you, begging you to help me
I dealt with the repercussions of my actions
I know you tried to steer me 'way from that shit
But that shit was in my blood, you know my life
I know your momma, nigga, send my love
In case I never get a chance to speak again
I won't forget the weekends spent sleeping at your crib
That's the way I wished my family lived
But my granny crib was in the 'jects"
I had to interject like:
"Nigga, what you talking 'bout? feck is you getting at?"
He said, "Listen, I got no time to dive into descriptions
But I been having premonitions
Just call it visions from the other side
I got a feeling I won't see tomorrow
Like the time I'm living on is borrowed
With that said, the only thing I'm proud to say, I was a father
Write my story down, and if I pass
Go play it for my daughter when she ready"
And so I'm leaving you this record, for your eyes only
Don't you ever scratch or disrespect it
This perspective is a real one, another lost 'Ville son
I dedicate these words to you and all the other children
Affected by the mass incarceration in this nation
That sent your pops to prison when he needed education
Sometimes I think that segregation would've done us better
Although I know that means that I would never
Be brought into this world 'cause my daddy was so thrilled
When he found him a white girl to take back to Jonesboro
With 'lil Zach and Cole World, barely one years old
Now it's thirty years later, making sure this story's told
Girl, your daddy was a real nigga, not 'cause he was cold
Not because he was the first
To get some pussy twelve years old
Not because he used to come through
In the Caddy on some vogues
Not because he went from bagging up
Them grams to serving O's
Nah, your daddy was a real nigga, not 'cause he was hard
Not because he lived a life of crime and sat behind some bars
Not because he screamed, "feck the law"
Although that was true
Your daddy was a real nigga cause he loved you
For your eyes only

I'm not a massive fan of J Cole, but I think this is generally regarded as his worst album afaik. Funny as it's one of my absolute favourite hip hop albums of the 21st century.

There's just something so relatable about him and his work. This song in particular hits me hard, the climax to an album that is supposedly written from the point of view of his childhood friend, who was killed. It's strangely beautiful for a rap song, what a verse.

None of these will win best verses ever but just three top rap tunes.

Flow on the third verse is hypnotic in Thug Style

3 mins on, absolute classic. Snoop Dogg owns it here...

BIG kills it on this record too, third verse is pretty solid

Cappadonna's verse [2:56] is fecking ludicrous. True hip hop.

You heard other raps before but kept waiting
For the Son of Song, I keep dancehalls strong
Beats never worthy of my cause, I prolong
Extravangza, time sits still
No propaganda, be wary of the skill
As I bring forth the music, make love to your eardrum
Dedicated to rap nigga beware of the fearsome
Lebanon Don, Malcolm X beat threat
CD massacre, murder to cassette
I blow the shop up, you ain't seen nothing yet
One man ran, trying to get away from it
Put your bifocal on, watch me a-cometh
Into your chamber like Freddy enter dream
Discombumberate your technique and your scheme
Four course applause, like a black *** to ***
You're stuck on stupid like I'm stuck on the map
Nowhere to go except next show bro
Entertaining motherfeckers can't stop O
In battling, you don't want me to start tattling
All up on the stage cause y'all snakes keep rattling
Bitch, you ain't got nothing on the rich
Every other day my whole dress code switch
So just in case you want to clock me like Sherry
All y'all crab bitches ain't got to worry
Can't get a nigga like Don dime a dozen
Even if I'm smoked out I can't be scoped out
I'm too ill, I represent Park Hill
See my face on the twenty dollar bill
Cash it in, and get ten dollars back
The fat LP with Cappachino on the wax
Pass it in your thing, put valve up to twelve
Put all the other LP's back on the shelf
And smoke a blunt, and dial 9-1-7
1-6-0-4-9-3-11
And you could get long dick Hip Hop affection
I damage any MC who step in my direction
I'm Staten Island's best son feck what you heard
Niggas still talking that shit is absurd
My repertoire, is U.S.S.R
P.L.O. style got thrown out the car
And ran over, by the Method Man jeep
Divine can't define my style is so deep
Like pussy, my low cut fade stay bushy
Like a porcupine, I part backs like a spine
Gut you like a blunt and reconstruct your design
I know you want to diss me, but I can read your mind
Cos you weak in the knees, like SWV
Trying to get a title like Wu Killa Bee
Kid change your habit, you know I'm friends with the Abbott
Me and RZA Rob name printed in the tablet
Under vets, we paid our debts for mad years
Hibernate the sound, and now we out like bears
In Born Power, born physically, power speaking
The truth in the song be the pro-black teaching
