 that is a good verse. So many from the Wu.

"One six ooh four nine three eleven"
Somehow had passed over this song until recently. It completely blew my mind when I first heard it

Was listening to this earlier today, he’s incredible.
He really is. For me, the greatest ever, but understandably it's up for debate. His flow on that song in particular is great. Not my favourite Nas album but it has a few excellent songs.

That type of song/verse really is Eminem at his best. I love the aggressive delivery.

He’s definitely up there, he ranks really high for me and has a claim to no.1, imo he hasn’t made a bad album and for someone who’s been around for so long that’s quite the achievement. Great lyrics and flow, people praise Kendrick for his story telling but Nas was doing it for ages. Love this track:

Classic song & verse from Puff:

I don't wanna know where your whereabouts or how you movin'
I know when you in the house or when you cruisin'
It's been proven, my love you abusin'
I can't understand how a man got you choosin' (yeah)
Undecided, I came and provided ma
My undivided, you came and denied it (why?)
Don't even try it, I know when you lyin' (I know when you lyin')
Don't even do that, I know why you cryin' (stop cryin')
I'm not applyin' no pressure, just wanna let you know
That I don't wanna let you go (I don't wanna let you go)
And I don't wanna let you leave
Can't say I didn't let you breathe
Gave you extra cheese (c'mon),put you in the SUV
You wanted ice so I made you freeze
Made you hot like the West Indies (that's right)
Now it's time you invest in me
Cause if not then it's best you leave
Holla, yeah

Good taste ;) Not many real lyricist nowadays.
Thanks man! I agree, imo even Kendrick, who I really like from this generation of rappers, is not that strong lyrically, although his beat selection and song subjects are solid, he just lacks a bit in conplex lyrics and word play imo, still better than most atm.

Beside the sea-side, Beside the sea.
Here's another one of my favourites.

Young black male, twenty-five years of age
Many-a-lives didn't survive to this stage
'Cause the rage of another brother got him popped
Shot him and he dropped, like a beanbag
Mean motherfecker with a rag and some jeans that sag
They signify your death by crossin' out your tag
Then they go and brag that they took another life
Never to think, do a brother got a mother and a wife?
Trife when a nigga do the work of the Klan
That's what you're doin' when you ruin the life of a black man
Attack plan on self
The man's got the family jewels, so I guess we're buryin' wealth
All because we've been taught to despise what's black
Open your eyes you oughta realize the fact
That you've been gettin used like a trick
You think you're mighty, but yo, whitey got your head sick
See you were fed thick pieces of swine as a baby
It only help to drive your mind crazy
Now your blind days be over
No more standin on line, tryin to find Jehovah
Let us rewind to a time we was right and just
Nowadays we just fight and bust
One another in the back over crack, a carjack
Will get you killed, watch the blood get spilled
To the scale, then watch how fast they build the jail
Now they got you holdin' on to a cell, well...

It's hard to analyze which guys are spies; be advised, people
We recognize who lies, it's all in the eyes, chico
We read 'em and see 'em for what they are
D's in undercover cars
Takin' my picture like I'm a feckin' star
I'm up to par, my game is in a smash
With half a million in the stash
Passport with the gats, first name and last
Ask anybody if my men are rowdy
Give me the mini-shottie
I'll body a nigga for a penny probably
I'm obligated to anything if it's crime-related
If it shine, I'll take it; still in my prime and I finally made it
I hate the fact that I'm the last edition
Properly a stats magician
Could've went to college and been a mathematician
Bad decisions kept me out the game
Now I'm strictly out for cream
Doin' things to fiends I doubt you'll ever dream
My team's the meanest thing you ever seen
Measured by the Heaven's kings
Down to the Devil's mezzanine
I've never screamed so loud, I'm proud to be alive
Most heads die by 25 or catch a quick three-to-five
So be advised: the street's full of surprises
It's not what crew's the livest
One that survive, it's who's the wisest
Insane

A Crack Habit.
Love RZA verse(second verse) on Gravediggaz The Night The Earth Cried. Deep and poetic.

.

I came to the shores of America disguised as a peddler
The alpha and omega and the home of the beggars
The black settlers who been beaten, raped, lynched, robbed and stoned
And called to roam the Earth in service so they couldn't maintain at home
This dates back to 1555
When they captured the first tribe of men and piled them in a pen
Fifty feet high
They took 'em all on the nine thousand mile ride
And landed on the shore of a place they never seen before
But read about this inside the ancient books of war
Bonded in stainless steel, stripped of their language
Still survived the anguish of slavery but still remained nameless
Separated to portions and tricked by John Haughty Hawkins
And sold on an auction, taught birth control and abortion
Rulers of the first part became slaves of the worst part
The devils cursed God and reversed God
And turned God to dog and made people search hard
Notoriety came to the prophet of W.D. Fard
To a trauma, dropped our mommas off in Bahamas
And Barbados, Tobago's, separated us from slave boats
Made our own brothers hate us from Virgin Isle to Jamaica
Trinidad, Honduras, Haiti, Grenada
Bermuda to Cayman, mental enslavement
You black gods become awaken

Couple of my favourites:

Common's verse on Get 'Em High (Kanye West)

Get 'em high like noon or the moon
Or a room filled with smoke, a hype filled with dope
Y'all assumed I was doomed, out of tune
But I still filled the notes with real nigga quotes
Real rappers is hard to find, like a remote
Control rap is out of
Used to, but still got love
That's why I abuse you who are not thugs
Rock clubs, it's like Tiger Woods in the hood
Should have my own reality show, called Soul Survivor
I stole on live-er niggas than you
You's a bitch I got ones that are thicker than you
How could I ever let your words affect me
They say Hip-Hop is dead, I'm here to resurrect me
Marsha's too sexy to even make songs like these
That's why the raw don't know your name, like Alicia Keys
Too many featured emcees, and pro-ducers is popular
Twelve thousand spins, nobody got to coppin' a
Album, how come, you the hot garbage of
The year's clear your image and snooped up
Label got you souped up, tellin' you you sick
When you a dick with a loose nut
Video hard to watch like Medusa
Even your club record need a booster, chimped up
With a pimp cup, illiterate nigga, read the infra-
Red across your head, I'm bred king like Simba
Bolder than Denver, I ain't a Madd Rapper
Just an emcee with a temper
You dancing for money like Honey, I did this my way
So when the industry crash, I survive like Kanye
Spittin' through wires and fires, emcees retirin'
Got your hands up, get them motherfeckers higher then

Malice's verse on I'm Not You (The Clipse) – I love every verse on this track but Malice's my favourite one.

Rappers is talking to me as if (come on)
We in the same boat I tell them quick no I move Coke! (uh uhh)
And you and I don't share no common bond,
So forgive me if I don't recieve you with open arms (No)
It shames me to no end,
To feed poison to those who could very well be my kin (uh huh)
But where there's demand, someone will supply
So I feed them their needs at the same time cry
Yes it pains me to see them need this
All of them lost souls and I'm their Jesus
Deepest regret and sympathy to the street
I see them pay for they fix when they kids couldn't eat (so sorry)
And with this in mind, I still didn't quit
And that's how I know, that I aint shit (I aint shit)
My heart bleed but that's aside from the fact,
I live from my kids and theirs and them youngins after that

Joe Budden - Playing our Part
Yeah, and so the pussy ain't enough now
They keep thinkin' it should be enough, how?
feck sex, baby, later for that
This mind game I'm playin' is a greater climax
Not a franchise player, I can't pay you the max
I can't say it to you so I just say it in raps
I got a rep that I made all by myself
One I hate all by myself
That comes from decisions created all by myself
I can't shake it all by myself
See I grew up in the spotlight
Where your every move is eyed
The truth becomes lies when you're that scrutinized
No mentorship, I was unsupervised
Had to learn on my own every rule to survive
Still I manned up in caught those wrongs
Go ahead and judge Joe, I got my court clothes on
Y'all see the front, behind the scenes more goes on
Check my back catalog, it's in all those songs, forreal
So I can be at peace forever
I left the puzzle right there, nigga, piece it together
But back to you, beauty, small waist, fat booty
It's cool for the moment but don't permanently move me
They come through tossin' me ass like it's their duty
But who I was ain't who I am, I say it truly
Here I am shootin' 'em down without the Uzi
Unlike them niggas you know, don't try and group me
Watched myself on TV, was unruly
How the feck they cast me wrong in my own movie
They say you are what you attract
Here I am, screamin', "feck all that"
Then I'm forced to believe I attract and adore
Bunch of unstable broads with character flaws
With plenty luggage, I greet 'em with their bags at the door
If that's true then it's some shit I'd rather ignore
Cause check it, whatever helps you get by
So when they hit me, I always reply

All Love Lost is probably his best studio album. It has some great songs (Love, I'm Good) and a letter to Eminem which is funny to listen to what with the recent goings on.

Nas ft. Busta Rhymes - Suicide Bounce

Sitting up drunk, shuffling thoughts
Got paper but I'm lost
Losing focus, what a nigga still hustling for?
My seed is straight, the family's settled
Idle time get the man in trouble
When wifey tourin', my life get borin'
Start to remember all types of torment
The devil's callin', but I don't answer
Mom passed from cancer, leaving behind
Two granddaughters, two grandsons, two nines
Next to me in the Phantom, who lying?
Big screen documentaries of Idi Amin
Dada, trying to stay away from creeps
With their bullshit, trying to put me back in the streets
War stories, funerals
Where Feds be laying, from a dreadful slaying
Body viewings, at the wake
Nigga sit stiff in his Ferrari, no casket
With his eyelids still open, it's kinda spooky
Iceman watch on, the suit Gucci
I'm above the standard
But dudes is more zealous than Branford
Thinking you're too rich, they want to gun ya
Kidnap ya, cause of they hunger, but you fecking with hunters
Camouflaged in black hoods that dump clips
Cause real niggas die over dumb shit
Camouflaged in black hoods that dump clips
Cause real niggas die over dumb shit

Canibus - Showtime at the Gallow

I should get twenty dollars and go to Econo Lodge
And tie the sawed-off trigger around the doorknob
Call the police squad and tell them I'm in room one oh five
And that a dirty bomb's inside
Woke up in the cargo plane playin' Christy Lane
For some entertainment while I train in the misty rain
"One Day at a Time Sweet Jesus" is playin'
I'm sittin' there prayin' you prolly can't believe what I'm sayin'
But the voice in the back of my head keeps sayin' "Germaine
This is the real deal man this is not a dream this is not a game
The only sixteen you got from now on is locked
And loaded and in your hand
Deploy or detach on land you the man
And the pain is the weakness leavin' the body, understand?
I can reload wit a full pack call COMSAT
Tell them you need suppressive fire for troops in the back stat
Insurgence and counter-insurgence move wit a purpose
Absolutely mission critical you never get nervous
Applicate the shock tube to the surface
Standby blow it eyes open wit the scope on the terrorist
Tell him to go to hell in Arabic put a bullet through his narrow neck
Watch the wall behind him get wet
I'm an animal I'll murder you and stare at your pets
Get the tape I know where the surveillance cameras is kept

Both parts of this song

Thing is, this Em verse is in a period where he was apparently at a low point in his career according to many. Nobody is putting out verses like that in this period of time, the aggression, delivery everything is absolutely incredible.

And it's just one of many in this period of time! He had done great verses over the last few years. Just off the top of my head, verses of his which I'd constantly repeat over and over include his verse on Best Friend with Yelawolf and Drop The World with Lil Wayne again. The guy is something else, he gets judged from a higher pedestal than other because of what he's capable of, but don't discount him. He's still putting out amazing stuff even if it is amongst some sub par stuff now and then.

Eminem - No Apologies

In my mind I'm a fighter, my heart's a lighter
My soul is the fluid, my flow sparks it right up
An arsenic writer, author with arth-r-itis
Carpal-tunnel, Marshall with start-shit-itis
Hard-headed and hot-headed
Bull-headed and pig-headed, dick-headed, a prick
A big headache, I'm sick, quick-witted for every lyric spitted
There are six critics who wait for me to slip with it
So quick, this dynamite stick, bury the wick
It's gonna explode any minute
Some lunatic lit it, and it's not Nelly
Do not tell me to stop yelling
When I stop selling I'll quit, so stop dwelling!
I am not failing, you feckers are not ready
‘Cause I got jelly, like Beyonce's pot belly
This is destiny; yes, money, I'm off running
So get off of me, I'm not slowing or softening

Could have chose any of the three verses for this song. It is absurdly good and in my 2 favourite Eminem songs.

In The Commission, you ask for permission to hit 'em
He don't like me, hit him while wifey was with him
You heard of us, the murderous, most shady
Been on the low lately, the feds hate me
The son of Satan, they say my killing's too blatant
You hesitatin' I'm in your mama crib waitin'
Duct tapin' your fam' destiny
lays in my hands, gat lays in my waist
Francis, M to the iz-H phenomenal
Gun rest under your vest by the abdominal
Rhyme a few bars so I can buy a few cars
And I kick a few flows so I can pimp a few hoes
Excellence is my presence, never tense
Never hesitant, leave a nigga bent real quick
Real sick, brawl nights, I perform like Mike
Anyone, Tyson, Jordan, Jackson
action, pack guns, ridiculous
And I'm, quick to bust, if my ends you touch
Kids or girl you touch, in this world I clutch
Two auto-matos, used to call me fatso
Now you call me Castro, my rap flows
militant, y'all faggots ain't killin' shit
Oops Crystal keep spillin' shit, you overdid it homes
You in the danger zone, you shouldn't be alone
Hold hands and say it like me
The most shady, Frankie baby, fantastic
Graphic, tryin' to make dough, like Jurassic
Park did quick to spark kids who start shit
See me, only me
The Under-boss of this holocaust
Truly yours, Frank White

Legendary.

This is more for the German-speakers, but I love Audio88&Yassin, both for their funny lines, e.g.

"Laktoseintoleranz ist das AIDS des kleinen Mannes" - translates to "Lactoseintolerance is the AIDS of the little man" - just very silly and I laughed a lot when I heard it the first time.

But they have incredible critical songs, like "Weshalb ich Menschen nicht mag" (Why I don't like people):

It's really hard to translate these lyrics meaningfully though, I'm really sorry :( maybe at least some speak/understand German...

Also this song by K.I.Z.:

Big Pun ft. Fat Joe - Twinz

"Dead in the middle of Little Italy, little did we know
That we riddled two middlemen who didn't do diddily"

"I rub your face off the Earth and curse your family children
Like Amityville, I drill the nerves in your cavity fillin'
Insanity's buildin' a pavilion in my civilian
The cannon be the anarchy that humanity's dealing"

"feck the police, I squeeze first, make 'em eat dirt
Take 'em feet first through the morgue
Then lodge 'em in the deep earth
The street's cursed, the first amendment's culturally biased
Supposed to supply us with rights
Tonight I hold my rosary tight as I can"

"feck peace, I run the streets deep with no compassion
Puerto Ricans known for slashin'
Catchin' niggas while they sleepin', no relaxin'
Keep your eyes open, sharp reflexes
Three TECS's in the Jeep Lexus, just in case police test us"

Pretty much just 4 minutes of lyrical insanity.

Absolutely agree. That track would fit perfectly on Marshall Mathers LP or TES. It's an amazing beat & his delivery is aggressive and technically brilliant. Similarly to you, I've heard it so many times but have never gotten tired of it.

I know your secrets nigga
Mood swings is frequent nigga
I know depression is restin' on your heart for two reasons nigga
I know you and a couple block boys ain't been speakin' nigga
Y'all damn near beefin', I seen it and your the reason nigga
And if this bottle could talk I cry myself to sleep
Bitch everything is your fault
Faults breakin' to pieces, earthquakes on every weekend
Because you shook as soon as you knew confinement was needed
I know your secrets
Don't let me tell them to the world about that shit you thinkin'
And that time you I'm bout to hurl
I'm fecked up, but I'm not as fecked up as you
You just can't get right, I think your heart made of bullet proof
Shoulda killed yo ass a long time ago
You shoulda filled that black revolver blast a long time ago
And if those mirrors could talk it would say "you gotta go"
And if I told your secrets
The world'll know money can't stop a suicidal weakness

Nas - Everything

Watch me as I walk through the folly, golly, New York to Saudi
In Italy, I'm Eduardo Wiccari
But Nasty the hustler, nasty like mustard gas, sulfur
And I could sell Alaska to Russia, no pressure
My first house, 11,000-square-feet mansion
It was a haunted by dead rich whites
Mad a nigga bought his crib to hang up pictures of black Christ
Circular driveways, black cars and black ice
My second house, still in my twenties, illin' with money
Chilled through my spine, spillin' wine, it's funny
Did good for a staircase loiterer, euphoria
What you saw when you seen a teen turn to a warrior
Did every Fourth of July, bustin' in the sky
It was important to a guy who was mob-minded
Future Murcielago driver 'til Lambos got average on me
I started likin' the look like I ain't had no money
Yellow taxi seats over Maybach seats
Just to remind me, just to inspire me
To stay focused, it's a real sick society
Just cause I got your support don't mean you're buyin' me
I'm buyin' back the land owned by the slave masters
Where my ancestors lived, just to say a rapper
Made a change, the pants-sagger put plans in action
To lay claim the Pan-African made it happen

I love this song. And the Kanye/Dream singing is something special too. A pretty average album but this track is pretty special to me.
