How much football is too much football?

I’ve been watching the draw a bit. I find this a pretty intriguing tournament to participate in. It’s something new. I know the South and Central American teams will take this very seriously.

The European teams might just treat this as a preseason exercise, while some of the other teams will be in mid season form. My interest and enjoyment fully depends on how seriously the European teams take this.

Chelsea’s group so far has Flamengo and a Mexican team in it.

Unnecessary tournament. Zero interest.

In an ideal world I want us to take it seriously but looking at the dates if we don't leave some key players at home we are risking being seriously undercooked at the start of next season, a season where on paper we should finally be making the jump to challenge for the league properly.

If the PL allow us to propose MD1 that may change things but if i remember rightly Pep has already asked and they said no.

I'll root for Boca Juniors

Who’s going to watch this shite? If managers who moan about fixture congestion send a full squad to this they can’t ever moan again.

I was talking to a Fight and Win fan last week and he was yammering on about some club level world cup thing. Said he was going to renew his sounders ticket so he wouldn't lose out on tickets. I thought he meant the WC

DAZN have the tv rights but will be showing it free to air

Somehow I think the owners will strong arm the managers into taking their best players.

Just realized today they're still keeping the annual end-of-year tournament, but reviving the Intercontinental Cup brand for that one. FIFA's greed knows no bounds.

Random pre season tournament is what this will be seen as
It would make more sense if it was in pre season.

It's basically in the slot where the world cup/euros usually are date wise, so the teams will basically not have actual pre season until about 1/2 weeks before the season starts.

What’s MD1?

Yeah I can’t see a world where the European teams don’t treat as some kind of glorified preseason tournament, so a bunch of youth and fringe players getting a run out.

Matchday 1.

As I said in a response above it won't even be pre season, we'll have to send the players on a summer break then come back for pre season 1 or 2 weeks before the season starts.

We'd be chancing an absolute horrendous start to the season.

Oh, it’s because you said propose, when I think you meant postpone. It confused me.

What are the dates? I just assumed it would be in the usual preseason period.

Pretty sure FIFA are demanding the first team to be played.

Oh fecking autocorrect

15th June to 13th July, so basically similar dates to when the actual world cup is played.

A freaking World Cup with teams from all continents and we get drawn into a group with three Arab teams :boring:

Pretty sure FIFA are demanding the first team to be played.
Can't wait to see this enforced. City, PSG, Bayern will come out of a 50/60 games season, they will fill that plane with fringe/academy players and play the stars for 30mn.
Chlsea might actually be the favourite for this competition with their 50 man squad.

Nonsens tournament. If we ever get a chance to play we should send academy players. This is just another way trying to make money.

Pretty sure FIFA are demanding the first team to be played.

Don’t see how they can demand that when European teams have actual real seasons to prepare for. I think teams will do what’s best for them. I doubt we’ll see Real Madrid feature Mbappe and Vini for 90 mins in every game.

I think this is a masterstroke from FIFA.

This tournament will replace the Champions League as the premier tournament in club football. It's so, so obvious that this will happen. And it will capture the interest and imagination that the UCL had at its absolute peak.

Of course you'll get the usual crowd coming out beforehand to give it a kicking, but come back in nine months time and this thread will look like the first five pages of the 'Cole Palmer to Chelsea' one.

It's like when you create a cup on a football game like Fifa and just hit random for all the teams.

The selection process seems too arbitrary, they could at least tie to the WC qualifying, so if your country was in the last WC then the league champions of that country play in this.
