How can you take a huge award ceremony for the greatest sport in the world and turn it into a cringy, amateurish show.

Not easy but they managed it. Would have been better to leave all the players stay home and just tweet it.

    Well done Modric.

Yes, I agree, the lady who won it looks like that kid in the playground pretending to be Ronaldinho, or something. The standard is quite poor.

De Gea is the best keeper in the world, no one comes close, any award ceremony that says otherwise is balaks.

Terrible awards show. Unnecessarily long, shit jokes and cringy as hell.

Though the highlight was definitely learning that Josephine Skriver is a United fan

They've shared the stage for the last 11 years. There's just no time probably.

Same with Salah being better than Messi and Mbappê but couldn't make the FIFA pro 11....

Terrible. Nominations, meh. Winners, meh. Awards itself, meh.
Exactly what you'd expect from FIFA and polls. 80% of everything was based on the world cup and the others, hype popularity and bias. Terrible.

How the hell did a 35 year Alves make the side? He only played 25 games in the 5th best league in Europe last year!

How in gods name did Courtois get GK of the year? Regardless of the clear as fecking day point he didn't even make the World Pro XI .

Chelsea finished 5th last year. He was far from his best. Grant it he had a fantastic World Cup but so did Pickford.

That goal? It was the worst of the nominated I thought.

How did that Salah goal win the Puskas award?! It is a good goal, for sure, but there is nothing spectacular about it. It is probably the least special goal on the shortlist.

Does anyone know how this is selected? It seems to be a bit of a consolation prize, since Salah did not win the Ballon d'Or.

It's an online vote. So of course the Egyptians rallied together and voted for him.

No wonder Cristiano could not be arsed to come to this joke of a ceremony. Dani Alves in the best XI

So Salah is nominated for the best player award and finishes 3rd but doesn't get into the team of the year.
De Gea is in the best team but isn't the best goalkeeper. What a joke.
And you gotta laugh at Dani Alves being chosen.

Reading last few replies in this thread surely cracking me up.
So Salah on 3 best player shortlist but not in best XI and De Gea in best XI but not nominated at all in best GK.

Ter Stegen is clearly better than Courtois.

And I guess De gea paid for his mistakes last WC...

This is a joke. BBC sport did a pretty good write up of why it was a joke - for all of the reasons people have stated above.

Can anyone confirm this is NOT the ballon d’or, right??
