Hopefully we are going to sign an attacker late in the window. Just a hunch.

Hopefully it's to replace Sancho.

Will it be a winger or a striker?

And who is your guess?

I don't see any impact winger moving in this window. Chiesa was surely the closest thing to that and he's off the table. I wouldn't count Sterling as an impact player at this point.

However, Toney is definitely on the table, and if we could swing that we'd be crazy not to.

When at Brighton, Ashworth highlighted the importance of getting high potential players from less fashionable leagues as a way to beat European transfer fees and to add to your squad when finances are low.

Something Brighton did to great effect. Caicedo from the Ecuador league being the standout. And something we may have already seen start by getting Sekou Kone from the Mali league.

Perhaps we can go down that route

Not happening I think. We have Rashford, Garnacho, Antony and Amad for the wing positions and Hojlund/Zirkzee for the striker. Any other signing would either have to be a youth centric one (which doesn't help us in the short term). Or it could be a player who is comprehensively better than all our options. Struggle to think we'll find a new target and close it so quickly.

I don't think we'll get either, Sancho leaving doesn't leave us any shorter in numbers as he didn't play last season. I think we'll have to wait until Rashford or Antony leave next season until we can get a new attacker in.

Not a chance we can get Tony unless we make another 40/50m in sales from now.

Might as well just throw stupid bids around at this point. If it works great. If not then we have enough numbers If not quality. 20 mill for Toney. Loan for Sterling and they pay some of his wages etc.

Don't think the club will do it. We have Antony, Rashford, Amad, Garnacho, Mount, Bruno, Hojlund and Zirkzee who can all play in either the wide forward role or false 9 or as a striker.

Just got to pray that they suddenly get a lot better in front of goal.

De Zerbi woulda have them doing just that. Maybe Ten Hag could too. I was watching some highlights and there was a smaller club that signed a striker and I was feeling like we should have

Yeah, don't think anything else is happening. Messaging earlier this week was 1 in, 3 out. So that would be Ugarte and Hannibal, McTominay, and Sancho, surely?

i don think we will have need to replace Sancho in the squad, Amad, Anthony and Mount are options on the right with the likes of Garnacho and Zirkzee who could also fill in if needed. A striker or another midfielder are more likely but i could be a bargain hunt situation. I would not be shocked at a late deal for Amrabat but it will need to be a lot less than the 20M option to buy already mooted.

I don't think we'll buy anyone else, I think we're done for this transfer window once we sign Ugarte.

I don't think the actual position matters too much, but we lack a decisive player in the final third who can consistently deliver and make the difference. These players aren't easy to find though, striker or wide player. Especially one who can deal with the demands of being a top attacker at United.

Definitely a striker. I don't trust Hojlund nor Zirkzee to get 10, let alone 20+ goals this season. If Rashford could get his act together we'd probably be fine, but alas...

Toney would be ideal.

Don’t know about winger. Are the same scouts at the club who recommended Sancho? Antony? Pellistri?

I don’t know if they’ve an eye for a winger.

Even though Hojlund scored 16 last season?

The only way we’ll sign an attacker is a young high potential player, like we did with Kone in midfield.

Next summer I imagine we’ll be seriously looking at moving on Antony and Rashford, depending how they do this season, and making a major forward signing, like Williams.

All our first team signings this window have been well thought out, proper grown up deals, that sorted a need in our squad with the view to long term success. I would imagine in addressing our attack, we will do the same thing. I cannot see us doing a rushed, speculative signing at all; not unless it’s a very young, low cost player.

We need a Rashford replacement. Someone who can hit 30 goals regularly and is world class. It seems that player isn’t out there at the moment.

What we don’t need is some average squad filler to replacement Sancho just for the sake of it.

He scored 10. Expectations would be that he'd improve on that. I'm preditcting between 15-20 if he's the primary starter.
I expect he hits around 10 again. I don't think he'll get to 15. Would be great if he did, but I just don't see it happening.

Agree, hopefully will be the focus for the next summer transfer window.

We have 2 young and new strikers. We won't sign a CF unless we are ready to give up on Hojlund or do something weird like loan him out. There's no space for another, nobody carries 3 expensive players in a position where only 1 of them will play. I'd be shocked if we sign another striker before 2026.

On the wings we also have 4 options, but at least there we know Antony is deadwood and Rashfords position is under severe scrutiny long term. So naturally we know we'll have squad openings there and the need to replace.

Regardless, the budget isn't there for any serious signing. Our next step for our team will be a deep passer and a truly top level winger. Both will be expensive deals and should be the target in 2025.

You can do that when your ambition is to retain PL status and finish mid-table or above, you can't do that if you're ambition is to be challenging for the PL and CL

But this is a player or two for depth rather than building a team that way

I’m sure if we got Caicedo when we wanted him, he’d have proved a very successful signing
