It aired on ITV tonight. Fantastic to watch. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Seemingly burst onto the scene at Leyton Orient as a tricky, supremely gifted winger, further elevated his stature at West Brom. They focused on a particular game in 1978 where West Brom beat United 5-3, Cunningham by all accounts put on a masterclass in speed, creativity, finishing.

He moved to Real Madrid after that where after a seemingly decent start, it didn't quite happen for him, injuries began to mount and being one of only two foreign players allowed in Spain, the pressure proved too much.

It is of course impossible to talk about a black player in the 70's and 80's without highlighting the constant theme throughout his career of racism, discrimination and being a pioneer in some ways for the prominent black players that followed him in the 80's and 90's.

He bounced around from club to club after Real Madrid, including a loan spell at United, sadly never really settling, never spending more than a single season at any club. He tragically died in a car accident while playing for Rayo Vallecano aged just 33.

I thought the program was really well done, lots of footage from his days at Orient, West Brom and Real Madrid. I particularly enjoyed learning about his time at West Brom and his connection and friendship with Cyrille Regis and Brandon Baston.
