Answering to the question of talent with g/a is somewhere between utterly droll and idiotic.Talented at doing what exactly? He has the same G/A in the PL as Dorgu, having played 900 minutes more than him.
He is a creative midfielder. If he was very talented then he would've gotten more goals and assists. Instead, he ghosts through games vs any decent opposition.Answering to the question of talent with g/a is somewhere between utterly droll and idiotic.
No. He would do that if he was very good. Not the same thing. He is a creative midfielder. If he was very talented then he would've gotten more goals and assists. Instead, he ghosts through games vs any decent opposition.
Smicer is a very worryingly apt comparison.I think if you put him in one of the great German sides, he'd fit like a glove and absolutely pull his weight.
I'm worried that he has Keita syndrome though. That he'll only ever play to the level of his teammates on any given day.
He had a two month run last season that suggested more, where it was basically only him and Ekitike doing anything good.
He's very Smicer so far though.
So what has he shown for you lot that would make you think he's very talented, then? Because at Leverkusen, where he built his reputation for being very talented, his numbers were great.No. He would do that if he was very good. Not the same thing.
I have seen plenty evidence that his technical ability, creativity and how he sees the game is top notch. So what has he shown for you lot that would make you think he's very talented, then? Because at Leverkusen, where he built his reputation for being very talented, his numbers were great.
Really? Obviously you watch your side much more than I do, but he's looked weak, a little cowardly and unproductive so far to me. He's talented in the way that most playing professional football are but I've not seen much at Liverpool to intimate he's much beyond an average pl player.I have seen plenty evidence that his technical ability, creativity and how he sees the game is top notch.
Its not his talent, or supposed lack of it, that’s the issue with him.
If he had mettle, proper mentality, and were a little stronger physically, hed be a top player.Really? I suppose both could be remedied. And we don’t know how much of his issue was everyone’s issue. Slot.
But theres nothing about him that makes me think think he lacks the ability, except maybe his weakass shooting.
Takes more than talent to make it in the PL though.
He had everything to do with our lacking fitness, lack of cohesiveness and lily livered mentality. Like you under amorim we’d have been better off without a manager and a group of senior players organising training tactics and team selection. He’s the reason Ekitike and szoboslai were literally the only players you could say had a good season.Really interesting that in the eyes of Liverpool fans slot carries the can for last season, alone. He had nothing to do with the transfers that left the squad unbalanced, he is not the reason Salah and VVD fell off a cliff, Konate was not on him, and the unfortunate Jota also not on him. He was a large part of it, but getting rid of him isn’t like waving a magic wand. Be interesting to see who you lot blame this season if the team isn’t challenging again.
Technically sound but powder puff. Just drifts out the game
Both things can be true. Slot was abysmal, but he wasn’t the only issue. A lot of your recruitment was weird (a dwarf wing back to replace TAA?!). I rate Iraola but looking at your squad, there’s loads to do. Still need a new right back, at least one centre half, probably two, a centre mid and at least one wide player, possibly another forward too. Most of those need to be first team quality. He had everything to do with our lacking fitness, lack of cohesiveness and lily livered mentality. Getting rid of him is waving a magic wand. Its hard to overstate how much negative impact he had on us last season.
To bring it back to topic, Wirtz reminds me of someone like Hleb. Nest and tidy and occasionally aesthetically pleasing, but utterly lightweight and broadly ineffective.
So would IIf he had mettle, proper mentality, and were a little stronger physically, hed be a top player.

It’s a complete lack of personality. You look at de Bruyne and Bruno, the two best creative attacking mids of recent years, they impose themselves on games. Constantly looking to get on the ball, always looking to make things happen. Wirtz is just kinda there.Hleb was probably a better dribbler than Wirtz.
I think Wirtz has shown he can pick out passes, and execute them, better than anyone else in the squad. And has a speed of thought and awareness around him that should have helped adapt well to the pace and narrower spaces of the PL.
He doesn't seem to know how to get into games that are passing him by though. A bit Foden-like in that sense. I think a proper system can salvage some parts of his game, but ultimately he needs to find the same kind of fire in the belly someone like De Bruyne had, to go at games and make things happen regardless of what happens around him. Maybe a good manager can help him find it, but there needs to something there to ignite.

Yeah, on the bench.
He's just not very good.
he’d be lucky to get thatSo was Raven Morrison. Imaging him ahead of Scholes and Keane. Truly the stuff of dreams.Nah. He’s very very talented. But he lacks something in the mental department at this point. He can’t lift a game looking to him to lift it.
Be nice to the kid! He's playing on the LW after all. How can we expect him to contribute when he's not surrounded by 10 superstar teammates?!So how is this absolute no-show Slot’s fault…?
I obviously don’t watch as many Liverpool games as you but this is what I’ve felt about him when I’ve watched games… doesn’t give you the feeling of someone who’s thinking “right, this isn’t going well, I’m going to do something… I’m going to demand the ball.. I’m going to get us in this game”. Couple of mates in work who are Liverpool fans say similar.Nah. He’s very very talented. But he lacks something in the mental department at this point. He can’t lift a game looking to him to lift it.
How about the perfect pass to Havertz's head for an easy chance, that he missed? It was an awful pass, directly into the feet of an oppsing player, who then fumbled it and let it roll to Havertz. Still, down it goes as an assist to Wirtz. Since he plays for Liverpool, nobody will notice that it was a horrible, amateurish play and instead it'll go down as an assist in the WC knockout stages. You will never see it mentioned in any other context than "Wirtz assisted a goal in the RO16 of the WC." That will be shouted from the mountaintops by the English media. Then he'll have another twenty consecutive games where he is absolutely terrible, and they'll say nothing at all. Meanwhile, any slight misstep of a United player will be the talk of the week for how they might be a flop who was never any good.
So was Raven Morrison. Imaging him ahead of Scholes and Keane. Truly the stuff of dreams.
Agreed. He has a good technical level but he's very passive anytime I watch him. I'm not seeing a player who will live up to his fee.He reminds me of Sancho so much. Neat, tidy, skilful and almost completely pointless.
And again. How about the perfect pass to Havertz's head for an easy chance, that he missed?
He was their best player. Was badly missed tonight, Germany could have done with his creativity.
He was their best player.
