Florian Wirtz | Der Fußballgott | Der Fluch ist gebrochen!

Yeah, but you might expect at least on goal contribution in four months, for a player in excess of £100m.

Your level of bias is staggering. Haven’t seen this level since that Pochettino fanboy who was booted off here a couple years ago.

No it's not.

It's more the assists, or lack thereof, that must be worrying. He is a creator after all.

He seems to be overwhelmed and hiding while showing small glimpses of his technique.

Yes, he's not imposing himself on matches the way he did for us. It definitely seems as if the pressure is getting to him so he plays it save a lot of the time. But I expect that to improve. He's already playing with much more confidence than at the start of the season.

But there's something inbetween being as good as he was for us and being shit.

Thought he was alright today, did some really tidy things with the ball but you watch the game and he doesn't jump out as being spectacular or anything.

I think he'll come good too, a prolonged period behind Ekitike and without Salah is a chance for him to push on and break his duck.

You do see glimpses of quality there, but he needs to be more decisive and imposing.

Personally think it’s weird to be so obsessed with following a former player who clearly deemed your own club is too small for him.

No goals or assists for a creative midfielder in 15 premier league games is EMBARRASSING for someone who cost £10m, never mind someone who cost more than 10x that.

Outperformed by Dalot on both fronts in the Premier League.

Isn't it the same with the cringeworthy Cristiano fanboys on this forum?

See, I think we follow football for different reasons. To a large extent, I watch it because it is my favorite sport - the one I've been playing my whole life - and I love seeing it performed at the highest level. And the sport is practiced by athletes so I watch loads of games simply because of the players on the pitch. The other is team affiliation but to be honest, I find this whole club culture in football very childish if taken too far. I'm fully able to acknowledge and even (begrudgingly) enjoy a great performance by a Bayern player although I strongly dislike the club and I'm not butthurt because a player moves on. And to be honest, I find it much weirder if grown men aren't capable of that because they obsess over their support of a billionaire owned money grabbing "club" that doesn't give a feck about them.

Wirtz is one of my favorite players ever. Of course I follow him as well because I like him but I like a lot of ex players and he's the only one whose matches I watch. And that's because he's one of my absolute favorite footballers to watch.

Now, if he keeps playing like he currently does, I will watch less and less, trust me. But I'm still optimistic that he'll fulfill the promise.

At least you can say you have something in common with one of your favourite players ever… 0 goals and 0 assists in the PL ;)

wasn’t around but this has made me laugh.

Players like Wirtz are why I don't rate GOAT players that didn't play in the toughest league of their era.

I'm not trying to convince anyone here, because plenty will disagree. Just happy to talk about my perspective.

With all due respect to the Bundesliga; the way people were talking about Wirtz; at Bayern Munich he may have been one of the GOATS of his position.

I remember the same with Sancho coming from the Bundesliga to the Premier League.

If Antony joined a La Liga team directly from Ajax then he would be regarded as a top top player; but him playing in the toughest league in the world has put his performances in to perspective.

Slot has clearly showed that tactically he doesn't know how to get the best out his players this season - Salah, Gakpo, Wirtz, Isak, Frimpong, Kirkez, Gravenberch & Macallister are all underperforming.

What has the (stupid) term GOAT have to do with Sancho or Wirtz?

The stupid term is literally in his user name and it smells of fanboyism. Obvious who he is targeting though because neither Wirtz nor Sancho are anywhere near befitting the said title.

Ah shucks, Messi, Xavi, Iniesta must be disappointed to know they aren't the GOATs because they didn't play in the Prem :(

Poster didn't say anything about the PL, they said "toughest league of their era"

Messi, Iniesta, Beckenbauer, Neurer and Xavi are the GOATs. Literally 90% of football fans thinks so. It's stupid to think otherwise. I don't know why you bring that up. These players are called as the best for their club and country ever.

The issue for me is :

The Champions League is not a league. It's the epitome of the sport and its how alot of us decide how to rate our players. Kane's importance for Bayern is more dependant on how far he takes Bayern in the CL than the League.

It's a cup competition and you can bypass the best teams in the world by flipping of a coin. I felt this way since Liverpool 2005 Istanbul where AC Milan were clearly the best team in the world, but lost on penalties.

Are Grimsby a better team than United because they won a penalty shoot out vs us? They deserve the win; but through a league title playing 19 teams- Grimsby Town won't be as high up as United. But in a cup competition they have the ability to beat us.

I'd say the best current example for me is Yamal if he spends his entire life in La Liga; i wont rate him as much as others. A year a go I'd say that I rate Salah better than Yamal. Yamal will be a GOAT if he continues his performances for Spain national team and La Liga & CL; but that doesn't hide the fact that his league competition is easier than it is to many in the PL.

There's literally a thread talking about "the relative strength of the Premier league". That doesnt just make PL teams stronger; it makes PL teams also weaker as we see post January that many PL teams seem like they can't keep up with the Champions League.

That didn't just start this year; it's been like that for nearly a decade or even 15 years now. A relegation team from England would hammer a relegation team from Italy or Spain.

Wirtz struggles make me appreciate Bruno Fernandes even more. Wirtz for some reason is still “settling in” whereas Fernandes joined us near the end of a January window, and then got voted the premier league player of the month for February.

Wirtz couldn’t lace Bruno’s boots.

Since around 17/18, so nearly a decade is correct. 15 years, no

Imo, both Messi and Ronaldo fans are generally amongst the worst posters wherever they go. The factvthat the fans are both compared to each other tells you a lot about them as they are both a low bar.

Yep. Bizarre level of obsession and particularly annoying when they venture out into other threads.

Obsessed much?! This thread has NOTHING to do with Ronaldo yet still, somehow...
I thought the same. Plus, Ronaldo is one of the best ever, top 20 atleast and wirtz is some nobody from Germany that just cost too much

 agreed. The post reminded me of the Big Lebowski bit: "What does ANY of this have to do with Vietnam??"

If he scores before Wirtz does, I will never stop laughing.
Meh, you get awarded two bundesliga goals everytime you buy sausage and sauercrauts at Aldi

Yeah, but as of right now, Wirtz would probably struggle to find the checkout.

Can he finally manage to produce something today?

You'd think so, Spurs are in a bad state.
