Florian Wirtz | Der Fußballgott | Der Fluch ist gebrochen!

Saw the last 5 mins or so and saw that he was holding his hamstring after a late run. Got an assist and could be out for a few weeks maybe.

He is very Donny.

Lightweight, slow over distance, no real snap to his game. Tidy in certain moments but where is the rest.

Went with a mate to the Spurs match yesterday (he’s a Tottenham fan, and I obliged his request to join him)… and just had a nasty feeling that Wirtz would break the goose egg, and sure enough.

I find Spurs so uninspuring, but Liverpool are just a despicable lot. Half the match was spent rolling on the floor… was also shocked at how bad their away support was. Quiet as mice for the majority of it with the odd and equally uninspiring “Liiiiiverpoool, LIIIIIVERpool, etc” chant

Nobody could have watch yesterday’s match and been inspired to support either team.

Above post really had nothing to do with Wirtz at all, and meandered around like a Trump monologue. Sorry about that

WIrtz is so very much a million times better than Donny vd Beek

And I don't even massively rate Wirtz.

This current version of Wirtz? Not so sure. He's maybe hiding a bit less, but the outcome is pretty much the same - a whole lot of nothing

This guy has been ballin recently. Won 2 penalties, forced an own goal, now this brilliant assist. Balon d'Or material.

So his assists are getting his teammates injured, now we know why nobody wanted to score from his passes!

Half a season in, the big news is that Florian Wirtz finally managed his first assist
Priceless.

Unlike him, who very much had the price of 110m £ transfer fee and 350k+£ per week wages.

I went with a friend who’s a Spurs fan (… I know), and saw Liverpool last week. Wirtz looked annoyingly good and if he actually finds some form I’ll be the first to be fecked off

What kind of bet did you make with your friend?

Wirtz: Is utterly dogshit for 20 games

Wirtz: Finally scores a goal

Leverkusen and Liverpool fans: HAH TAKE THAT MAN UTD FANS! EAT MUD!

This reminds me when everyone got super hyped when Kagawa scored that hattrick only for him to not develop further from that. Only, Kagawa cost literally 1/10th of what Wirtz did.

An alternative version is that a (very expensive) new signing takes a few months to settle in a dysfunctional team, then ends up making all the rival fans who said HAHAHA!! HE’S ABSOLUTELY SHITE AND HE’LL ALWAYS BE SHITE!! look a bit stupid, all in a single season.

It’s mad the way so many football fans seem incapable of remembering the many many examples of new signings who don’t immediately hit the ground running but end up looking the real deal after a season or two to settle. It’s like they’re incapable of learning.

If this was Liverpool's "it's all over, they've signed Ballack AND Shevchenko" window, better to wind up the Ballack I suppose.

This is true, but some imports start off slowly and get good after a while, and some start off slowly and never get good, at least not as good as expected.

I don't think anyone looks stupid yet (to use your terms), because Wirtz hasn't actually done anything of note yet. Maybe he will become one of the best players in the Premier league (which is the expected level, given his reputation and price tag) and maybe he will be a busted flush after a season or two. We just don't know at this stage.

That’s precisely my point. I think I’ve made maybe two posts in this thread. Making exactly that point. It’s obviously good fun when rivals spunk a load of cash on a player and he doesn’t perform, for as long as he isn’t performing. And I’ve no issue with that at all. It’s the many posts from experts in this thread about why he’s clearly doomed to always be a flop for Liverpool that seem pretty stupid. To me anyway.

The idea that you can have a good game without scoring a goal genuinely seems to go over many people's heads

I never thought he'd be a complete flop. I think that he'll be a decent player but never the Balon D'or winning candidate that many people here thought he would be.

I've stated he has physicality problems, which I've stated in this thread and it seemed that Liverpool FC agreed given that they've publically announced he's going through a rigorous gym routine to essentially bulk up.

But my point is that it's pretty ironic to say, "You're all wrong!" because he's had basically scored a goal against the 20th team in the league.

@Zehner you're right, but it's obvious I was generalising and embelishing my point, but I've seen some games with him in where he genuinely looked like Tom Cleverly and that isn't an exaggeration.

Not coincidence he scores against farmer league teams, and teams that should be in farmer leagues.

Found his level, he could very well secure a loan move to a big championship club next season, perhaps even one that will be aiming for promotion.

But nobody did that?

Plus, I don't think anybody had problems with reasonable takes like the one you just described. I don't agree with you but can see where you're coming from.

Wirtz said that he chose Liverpool and the EPL because he wanted to umptove physically way before his first training session by the way.

I think comments like "redcafe in the mud" allude to that, no?

But overall I think he'll reach the level of someone like Bernardo Silva, still very good, but nowhere close to Balon D'or winning level.
