Florian Wirtz | Der Fußballgott | Der Fluch ist gebrochen!

Do not let him scoring mistakenly draw you into thinking he played well today; he was absolutely dreadful. First half ended to a chorus of “what a waste of money” as he aimlessly hit a ball out of play.

That he got subbed when it was 1-1 and Isak, Ekitike and Salah were absent tells you everything you need to know about his performance.

Erm, was the VaR image compared to the real life one a bit disparate? Seemed that he was off a bit, and even Liverpool fans at the pub agreed

Kylian Mbappe:

18 league games, 18 goals, 4 assists.

But, y'know, Wirtz is better because he does more on the pitch. Or something.
Yes well he was awarded an orsay goal today while Mbappé didn't so take that

Best example really of how counting G+A isnt really the best metric to determine someones performance. He had a mediocre game today but scored and therefore wont get slated as much. On the other hand, he had many much better games than this one where he didnt score or assist and got obliterated online because of it.

I agree, it’s not everything, but you’re stretching the word “mediocre” there. He was absolutely rubbish.

It's not the best metric or only metric to judge performances, but attacking players have to get at least a reasonable amount of both or either in addition to everything else they do. He has a pitiful amount of both after more than half a season.

No posts since January 4th.

I wonder why.
Yep, very strange indeed.

Can't believe nobody's aboard his Ballon d'Or hype train yet after emphatically banging in the third of four against a League One side and heroically salvaging a home draw against Burnley.

Sheesh, you’re dramatic.

Did anything else happen on Jan 4th to take away the focus of many United fans? Hmmmmmm
Nope. Nothing happened today of any interest, either.

Some of us clearly think it's more important to be celebrating smashing City in the derby, when really we should all be in here enthusiastically wanking off a rival's 120m signing for scoring against relegation fodder in a game they didn't win.

So the teams he's done well against are the ones getting relegated, random bundesliga fodder, and lower division sides?

Sounds like a pattern....

Is that his first real goal yesterday, after being gifted a charity tap-in and a make-a-wish VAR special?

Brilliant. He’s looked less ineffectual… but ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY MILLION!

He might look like a £50m footballer one day, but that’d still make him a massive flop. He’s not as good as Szobszlai and he cost half as much.

He was my favourite player in BL and I still think that he'll be a success in PL. They're different players of course, but IMO he can be as good as prime de Bruyne.

Arguably the post of the week

Did well against both Madrid's as well. Now the question is if that's a continuation of that pattern or not :p

Did he now? He was Liverpool's worst player in both matches

I thought he was the second best Liverpool player against Real. Nothing special but apart from Bradley, they've all been average to good at best. I only saw his highlights against Atletico and not the whole match but maybe I should re-watch it because if Liverpool had 10+ players who performed better than this, they must have been otherworldly :)

Yeah they were pretty amazing against Atletico actually

The Sky commentary on him today was odd. He was getting praised for little off-the-ball movements (like he's some 17 year old academy player), and after he did a shit pass, we were told "that's very unlike Wirtz". After months of doing feck all, a couple of goals vs Burnley and Fulham is enough to justify his price tag apparently.

Are certain posters going to come in here and continue their victory lap orrrr?

Let the media keep on pretending he's doing great, will make it harder for Slot to drop him.

Sure most are only still doing it because they just can't admit they got it wrong about how great he was going to be in the Premiership.
