Florian Wirtz | Der Fußballgott | Der Fluch ist gebrochen!

Glad he's got that goal and assist monkey off his back, now he can just settle into a massive flop who does the bare minimum every few games.

He has this very weird trait of playing a very creative looking, delicate pass, with all the panache of Bruno and you think - such vision. Only for you to quickly realize it to be absolutely, never on and the defender just casually intercepts.

I thought he had more character than he's shown at Liverpool; a defiant leader type who is fearless and full of drive, not someone who goes down so meekly with the ship.

He's so passive, more like an Oezil in how he'll do his thing and if doesn't work out, oh well. Thought he had a lot more dog in him than he's shown.

That's what's surprised me most. Well, some of the technical weaknesses (under or over hit passes notably) I really didn't expect, but just how timid he is on the field is insane.

Still think he's a rolls-royce; going to be a superstar for Liverpool we'll hate in the next decade.
I've got the same feelings.

Even the video above with those delicate passes and through balls that he's still used to defenders in Germany where they have some level of latency to reacting, Wirtz doesn't expect the defenders in the PL to be able to see his passes almost instantly.

Think once he adjusts to the pace of thought from defences he'll be a threat.

In saying that he could go the way of Sancho and never adapt to it, but I don't think I've seen a player with a worse attitude than Sancho.

If anyone wanted an example of the bias Liverpool enjoy with all media and reporting, just compare the commentary and match reports of Wirtz v Pogba or even Fred who was less than half the price.

Wirtz’ price tag never ever gets a mention, ever, nor does his stinker performances get highlighted in any way.

So the teams he's done well against are the ones getting relegated, random bundesliga fodder, and lower division sides?

Sounds like a pattern....
The pattern continues.

He was playing very well while the team overall was still poor for the past month, and it was the same on occasions for Leverkusen in the past. I think at the start he was struggling to assert himself but he's been growing mentally and playing much better.

He's certainly mentally stronger than Ozil and more involved in the buildup.

Last the last game. ?

Are certain posters going to come in here and continue their victory lap orrrr?
I mean, we can play this game for the next 10 years, after every good game when its crickets in this thread I point out that he played well, and when he has a bad game 20 people will come on and say hes shite. Im pretty certain that over time people will recognize his quality.

Its funny though that after I said people werent saying anything when he played well I got told United fans were sooooo intensely occupied with other things and that hes not in their minds at all etc. What has changed that after yesterday everyone seems to be very focused on him again?

Half a season of bang averageness now...must have Liverpool fans a bit worried. Will need some inhaler to improve his level next season.

Crazy level for a £115+ player.

The thing I wonder about when reading your posts and that of the other Leverkusen fan is, that you have seen Wirtz play for years and I just can’t fathom how you could describe his performances as good and the criticism as biased and unfair. If you compare his level at Liverpool with that of your title winning seasons, there’s a difference that is just gigantic.
I have seen him excel back then and that is precisely the reason for my criticism. Because knowing what he can do and seeing what he is doing right now, it baffles me, how you could try to pretend that everything is fine, he’s doing well, but everyone is just mean to him. That’s doing him a disservice and it’s weirdly trivialising the performances he gave you.
He’s not half the player he was for you. And acting like that’s not the case and some small upticks in performance are proof of that, doesn’t help your case at all. It’s just so downright ridiculous.
Why can’t you just say that he’s clearly struggling? Everyone can see that. It’s obviously the case. But no, he’s clearly doing well, because he’s had a good pass in 90 minutes and that proofs it.

People become fans of narratives and don’t let themselves see the truth.

If Wirtz isn’t good at Liverpool, maybe the standard at Leverkusen wasn’t that good.

Your level of defensiveness regarding people's opinions of him is strange, to say the least.

He was utter crap yesterday, and his decent performances have been the exception rather than the norm, by far. His attitude on the pitch is terrible, and he's messing up really basic things on a technical level.

Many, many of us have said we believe he'll be decent overall, but that doesn't change the current status.

You'd think his technical level and ability to do the basics would still be there, whilst trying to find his feet in terms of adding goals & assists to his game for Liverpool.

But he looks awful even at the basics, there was a point v Marseille where the ball was rolled back to him on the edge of the box and he had plenty of time to choose what to do and he just let it bounce of his shin and the defender from 10m behind just came and took the ball of him like he was a kid.

Until he becomes one of the absolute best players of the premier league, this kind of average performances will get him criticism.
That’s what such a price tag will bring, especially in rival’s team forum.

For his price tag, thank god he can put up some assists and goal here and there against Burnley

It’s a United form. Praising players from that club isn’t really interesting for us. Maybe football rivalries are new to you. And not that this fellow deserves praise either. It’s not for “ people to recognise” his quality but for him to prove he actually has it. So far he’s been a dud.

Based on performances to date in the PL, who is the better player - Sancho, Werner, or Wirtz ?

Sancho had some magical moments at times - I recall goals against Liverpool and Chelsea.

Thats a nice attempt of gaslighting, I give you that.

Of course he isnt playing at the level he played for us, but it isnt as black and white as youre trying to paint it. He had good performances this season, in a struggling team that is badly coached and underperforming. Ive watched pretty much all Liverpool games and Id say he has been their 3rd best player this season behind Szoboszlai and Ekitike (which are ironically also players who came from the Bundesliga). Im also reading the RAWK forum from to time to see how Liverpool fans rate him and the absolute majority there thinks highly of him as well. If you read this thread and the comments youd think he has been awful which is simply not true and thats what Im calling out. I have never claimed he has been amazing, but there are a lot of grey areas between good and bad.

Do you believe his overall level this season has been closer to good or bad?
