Florian Wirtz | Der Fußballgott | Der Fluch ist gebrochen!

Thats a nice attempt of gaslighting, I give you that.

Of course he isnt playing at the level he played for us, but it isnt as black and white as youre trying to paint it. He had good performances this season, in a struggling team that is badly coached and underperforming. Ive watched pretty much all Liverpool games and Id say he has been their 3rd best player this season behind Szoboszlai and Ekitike (which are ironically also players who came from the Bundesliga). Im also reading the RAWK forum from to time to see how Liverpool fans rate him and the absolute majority there thinks highly of him as well. If you read this thread and the comments youd think he has been awful which is simply not true and thats what Im calling out. I have never claimed he has been amazing, but there are a lot of grey areas between good and bad.
Chiesa, Bradley, Gravenberch and Alisson have all also been better.

Most Liverpool fans on RAWK aren't criticising him as they're a proud bunch when it comes to spending money and they don't want to be perceived to have spent it frivolously. It's why it took them years to admit that 60m Keita was a bad signing. Spending 115m on a dud is very "un-Liverpool", so they'd much rather focus on the aesthetics of his nice touch and clever movement, rather than this overall poor contributions.

£120m. That’s the beginning and end of the conversation. At that price, there’s no mitigation, no extenuating circumstances. Be world class or be labelled a flop. It is that binary, a fee that size dictates that, fair or not.

Chiesa has barely played and his last few cameos have been awful. In no world has he been better than Wirtz this season, no Liverpool fan will tell you this. Gravenberch had a strong start but had many mediocre performances since then, Bradley has been okay but not as good as Wirtz.

Gravenberch has been better, as has Bradley. Frimpong has shown more in his limited starts as well.

Unlike Wirtz?

Do you believe his overall level this season has been closer to good or bad?
I get that there are different expectations attacked to the prize tag and anything else than 15-20 goal contributions will be labelled as being bad but thats not his fault really. I think he has been decent, one of the few brighter sparks in an underperforming team, but of course overall still lacking a bit of output and sometimes better decision-making which was one of his biggest strengths when he played for us.
I know Im biased when it comes to him but I know how good he can be and I think when you watch Liverpool games this season he has shown enough to warrant believe that he can be one of their absolute star players over the next 5 years.

With him its actually the other way around, he has been better as the season progressed while Gravenberch has dropped off.
Wirtz's performance vs Leeds (H) was one of the worst I've seen from a PL player this season. He was anonymous vs Arsenal and poor vs Bournemouth. He has had just as many bad performances as he has good performances over the past few weeks. And before that, he was poor in the majority of games pre-December.

Gravenberch has been better, as has Bradley. Frimpong has shown more in his limited starts as well.
If you want to bring expectations into it, you maybe have a point. If purely on performances, Bradley especially has been worse than Wirtz this season and I would argue Gravenberch has been too, albeit I think far too much defensive workload is falling on him. He's playing an unwinnable role.

Frimpong fair enough but he's barely played.

So you are agreeing that he has been better as the season progressed, which is what the poster you are replying to said.

He has improved over the last 4–6 weeks, though he is nowhere close to justifying his price tag. To say he has been one of Liverpool’s top three performers is clutching at straws for a dismal side that haven’t won in five games and are on the verge of having their manager sacked. I do find the fierce defence of him among Bundesliga fans rather unusual, because there is no denying he has looked nothing like a £100m Liverpool player. In fact, his current level is comparable to Kagawa, who showed more glimpses of ability than him and cost United peanuts.

You'll have watched closer than I have, to be fair, so happy to defer to you on it, but it's very, very difficult to remove the massive fee lurking uncomfortably in the background when judging those performances.

True. I don't think I'd even put him top three anyway myself. Szoboszlai a lock at number 1, Alisson number 2 even ignoring injuries and Ekitike 3. Maybe Wirtz fourth but it's not exactly impressive when the rest of the team have been awful anyway.

His ability on the turn, and in tight spaces is fantastic. I'm sure that he will come good. He wouldn't be the first high-profile player to come in to the PL and take a good few months to adjust - I've seen enough to suggest that he'll really kick on.

It’s two Leverkusen fans and no one else doing it on here.

Do yourself a favor and just let them have their echo chamber. There's no point in reasoning with intellectually dishonest people. The last few pages are further proof it's best to put the thread on ignore so that you aren't even tempted to correct them.

See you again in a few days.

I don’t think any sensible fan of a premier league club thinks Wirtz has been any good. Most people agree he’s been a huge let down so far.

That’s an arrogant statement and you’re not doing yourself any favours with it. Those that don’t share your point of view are beyond reason and intellectually dishonest?

That poster has been a condescending pillock to loads of Utd fans across different threads for a number of years. Always the contrarian and absolutely zero sense of accountability over a shit take. I know I'm not the only person on this board who feels this way.

The fault also lies with the staff for letting this kind of behavior slide for so long.

Oh, believe me, others are targeted as well.

Why the enormous arrogance? I don't think you can argue that player's performances in general are measured by anything resembling an objective standard, can you? Under that assumption, labelling others as "intellectually dishonest" seems quite out of touch, to be honest.
You're not doing yourself or your case any favours at all with statements like this. I don't even have anything against Wirtz, I just find the compilations of abysmal passes doing the rounds on X funny. He might still come good for that matter.
You are intellectually dishonest.

I read somewhere he has 5 goals and 7 assists for Liverpool across all comps this season. Those stats are better than I thought, are they correct?

If he wasn't playing for Liverpool he'd be the type of the player I'd enjoy watching play, but £116 million quid seems way overpriced.

Better write a post before we get accused of going quiet/intellectually dishonest.

If you’re counting Community Shield games, yeah.

5 in 31.

Cheap at half the price.

Stats against crap opposition doesn't mean much.

Scored 1 vs Carrybag
Goal and assist vs Barnsley
Goal vs Burnley
Goal vs Fulham
Goal vs Wolves
Assist vs Spurs
2 assists vs Frankfurt

5 goals and 4 assists in all real competition (the community shield is a friendly ffs)

Banisher of Barnsley. Bullier of Burnley. Qonqueror of Qarabag.

He's done something against a side that aren't a pub team!

Though, if I was a fully subbed up member of the BDL, I'd be doing victory laps in the Ekitike thread instead.
