Florian Wirtz | Der Fußballgott | Der Fluch ist gebrochen!

Something about him reminds me of Nigel clough .

He's a decent footballer not sure he's ever going to be Kenny Dalglish like I think was the Liverpool plan.

If he keeps this up, he might outscore Antony's first season for us. :(

I mean, he was obviously going to start getting the goals and assists at some point. Still needs to do a lot more to justify the investment.

Can't really complain about a goal and an assist, but his overall game is a little meh. He continues to lose the ball due to him thinking that he can make those cute dribbles, but then his touch is too heavy, and he is too slow and meek.

He has 11 G/A since the beginning of December. It’s still fair to call him not worth the money (yet) but I think the comparing him to massive flops like Antony doesn’t really work as banter anymore.

Had a decent game with a goal and assist, was still hiding 50% of the time and fumbled loads of balls. Showing up once every few weeks with a decent performance isn't anywhere near enough to justify his price tag, and he continues to be more of a NPC than the superstar he was supposed to be.
Obviously he is a very good player but he still hasn't made the step up that is required. It continues to be embarrassing how those Leverkusen fans, who should know how good he can be, continue to euphemize his obvious sub-par season

He’s doing well. But when you pay £110-120m for someone then you want them to be decisive in the big games too.

Looked pretty classy today.

Still not convinced him and Kimmich are two seperate people. Have they ever been seen together in public? Do they even look alike? So many questions.

You're right. He needs to net a winner to knock Barcelona out of Europe before we can start comparing him to Antony.

If youre looking for a Wirtz doppelganger look at Bart Verbruggen instead of Kimmich

He's def been good over the past 6-8 games. Slowly growing into it.

Are they atleast both small and lightweight looking??

Edit: they are! Only 1cm difference. Thought Kimmich was young too though. Already 30...

In Wirtz's defense he has visibly bulked up since moving to Liverpool. Has obviously had to do to get more acclimatized to the league.

And he needs to score one against Liverpool to knock them out of the FA cup!

So much space in the middle with no Bruno G or Joelinton
The teams he's struggled against all protect their back four with cdms.
In the big games he hasn't counted because of the Rice's, Casemiro's, Cacedo's

Exactly this. Newcastle’s team is built entirely on that midfield three and two of them were missing. There was a yawning chasm in front their defence. Ekitike’s second and Wirtz’ goal were nice finishes but they were given so much time and space.

He is playing better, daft to argue he isn’t, but £120m good? No. Maybe half that at best.

I remember the Man United game and I thought he had a pretty decent performance there coming from the bench, even without scoring or assisting.

Wirtz had forgettable games against us and Chelsea but played well at Arsenal even without any of Pools three main strikers being available.
The Wirtz & Ekitike partnership has improved in recent matches, as pointed out by this quip on Twitter:

Hugo Ekitike, after the Newcastle game, on playing with Wirtz:

“As I said, he is a great player who smells football so it’s easy to play with him, I can do everything with that kind of player. I just have to run in free space and I know he will find me like tonight. It’s fun to play with him.”

Wirtz may not be worth the transfer fee if assessed in isolation but play him alongside a decent striker and he does look special.

Wirtz-Ekitike is the most prolific scoring combination in the league so far, which isn't bad considering Wirtz took an age to register his first goal contribution. Their partnership has been looking really good the past month or two.

Also, apparently Wirtz has the most goal contributions in the league since December. He's been doing well lately. Especially considering that as a team we've been shit.
