Florian Wirtz | Der Fußballgott | Der Fluch ist gebrochen!

Unfortunately he’s really starting to look the part. Barely loses the ball and seems to find clever ways out of every situation to keep play going forward.
Looks a tidy player but doesn’t seem to have much real impact on games at all.

And now they're waxing lyrical about his 5 yard lobbed pass  bizarre.

It’s so weird there’s definitely a pro Liverpool love in with this commentary team.

Bruno does that type of flick on the regular and no mention of it. I’m sure that other teams have players that do the exact same too.

Played very well, by far the best player on the pitch from an offensive standpoint, was very unlucky to not score or assist, but every attack went through him. Liverpool desperately needs competent wingers in the summer, Salah seems to on his last legs and Gakpo is Gakpo.

If we paid what they did for his current output he’d be in red cafe purgatory for life.

I think it's pretty clear he's improving quite rapidly and looks like someone with the ability to be one of the stars of the World Cup.

I think, like Sesko, he's going to be one of the players of the league next season. This is the preamble.

I disagree. I can see him becoming something of a fair weather, flat track bully. He’ll look wonderful when Liverpool are dominating possession against mid and lower table teams, but he’ll do nothing in the biggest games. I think he’s too lacking physically to be one of the best players in the PL.

He’ll end up worth about half what they paid. Not bad by any means, but not £120m

We’ll see. ;)

He's improved recently & has looked good against some lesser sides - but the media are fawning after him & waxing lyrical - it's all a bit weird

An enjoyable prediction, unfortunately Wirtz played well in the second half last weekend against City and was one of their best players in the goal less draw away to Arsenal.
He's not a flat track bully nor is he lacking in physicality, having bulked-up since the start of the season. However, for all his skills, he doesn't produce a great deal even against lower table sides.
As you say, not worth £120M.

All joking aside, I think it's quite easy to see he's a very talented player. You can never really predict how well someone will do, and pool played a silly amount, but I think he's gonna be a star eventually. Be it at Pool or somewhere else.

Not sure why people are so desperate to write players off. Is it just because he's a Liverpool player? He is doing fine now, improving and is 22 years old. Did he cost too much? Absolutely. Is this his ceiling? Clearly not.

From my experience reading and watching media covering the pl, lots of Liverpool and arsenal players used to get hyped up a lot. Not all turned out good, but there were ones that did. They were hyped and defended long before they played well consistently, and those who criticised them were slated by media and fans.

Sick of the media desperately hyping up Florian Worst at every opportunity.

It's so strange. He had a decent game last night, some lovely moments but didn't really impact it that much but the way McCoist and Joe Cole went on you'd think we just seen Ronaldinho in his prime. He played a very nice ball and Joe Cole said 'there's only a handful of players in the world who can play that pass'. There was a moment late on, when Curtis Jones played a lovely first time pass and McCoist went 'Ohh'.. and was about to go through all the superlatives with Wirtz again before he realised it was Jones, and just moved on.

He's put together some nice/decent performances lately compared to his start, but he's still massively underperforming for the expectations and price paid.

The "ooooooowwwww" they all gave him on TNT last night when he just chipped a pass to his team mate when on the edge of his own area last night was nauseating, "Not many players in world football would see that pass". etc.

Such a fresh new take. Never seen anything like this in this thread. Trying for points?
Well, if it’s raining cats and dogs and the wind is howling, saying that the weather is a little crap is still correct. And we do love talking about the weather; just as at Redcafe we do like discussing terrible Liverpool signings. Carry on.

Perhaps they should shoot for more alternative takes like yours instead, such as "Fergie wouldn't have won more than 1 PL title with Klopp's team", right? I guess trolling United fans on a United forum is the "fresh" approach.

Except it’s months later. Little late in the game to be rehashing the past for brownie points. He’s been one of our best players recently, is 22 and getting better. But you know that.

I have seen a few Pool games, and very honestly I don’t think he’s been good. He’s been less shite but far from good enough.

That’s incorrect but I get it. Meanwhile Wrexham are winning.

That's why I upgraded him from a "bum pretending to be a footballer" (months ago) on the same thread, to a "nothing player". You should be happy, I'm on your side here. Not looking for any brownie points, just stating facts.

Don't worry, you disagreed with njred who's been consistently wrong about anything and everything, so I gave you a like. :)

Odd bump considering how our performances have dropped off a cliff since his injury.

He was in pretty good form before the injury to be fair. A rare shining light in Arne Slot's horrorball.
I don’t watch him enough to argue with you on it, but I’ll stand by what I’ve always said and think next season he will be much better for you.

But the fee was so stupid that he will never justify.

That's fair. I don't think he's worth the price either. He's one of our best to watch though so hopefully he starts over Gakpo on Tuesday, but I'm not counting on it.

He’s improved and you’re a better side when he’s in the team, but… £120m.

For that fee I expect Bruno levels of performance and output. De Bruyne, Gerrard, Yaya Toure, Lampard, Scholes. That’s the sort of company he needs to be keeping for the fee, and he’s nowhere near that. I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets better still, but still doesn’t justify the fee.

I also think he’s had a massively easy ride from the press, simply because they’d all decided he was going to brilliant before he’d even kicked a ball. Seen the reverse with Sesko, where they’d decided we’d massively overpaid before he’d kicked a ball. Classic case of confirmation bias.
