Florian Wirtz | Der Fußballgott | Der Fluch ist gebrochen!

He's the only able to consistently play forward passes in Slot's sideways possession football. Without him we only have set pieces and Ekitike doing something on his own.

Interesting, the past few times I watched him it was the opposite, constant side and back passes.

Absolutely brilliant tonight. Was like watching Zico.

He missed two golden opportunities in the first half by tamely hitting the ball. An attacking midfielder with his price tag needs to have a more convincing shooting technique.

Perfect display of "waste of space" performance. Status downgraded back to "a bum pretending to be a footballer". Terrible player & a monumental waste of big money.

Like watching prime Baggio today.

He always does the safe thing. Bit of the Mason Mount/Donny Van de Beek about him.
DvdB for sure - never looked confident enough to play progressively. Can’t attribute that to Mount IMO (in what little we’ve seen of him).

Standards and expectations for Wirtz are at absolute rock bottom if that was considered to be a decent performance from him.

He was up against arguably the worst team in the PL at the moment and did nothing.

I find this staggering. He has almost zero impact on the game.

The only real criticism I have today is that he should've shot more. He's going to come good for them. I have no idea if he's worth 100m but he'll start for them the next 5 years easily.

Not buying the worst team in the PL nonsense. They came in with a compact block and mostly did okay.

They've not won a PL game in 2026.

Lost 5 in a row before today.

On form they are absolutely the worst side in the league. Not sure that’s really up for debate.

Based on what I’ve seen so far I’ll be ecstatic if he’s a mainstay at Liverpool for years to come.

There’s still people claiming he’s good or going to be great. To those people I say “go watch Bruno play.”

Look at his numbers. Look at his performances. That’s what a £100m+ attacking midfielder needs to be delivering on a regular basis.

He was really good in Germany, though, and it's not as if it was some absurd gamble to sign him. They might have paid a bit more for him than they ought to, but he was one of the most prominent up-and-coming midfielders. Then he arrived at a club in freefall and a league that's tougher to play in, but he's clearly much better than what he has shown so far at Liverpool.

He won’t be the first or the last player that hasn’t managed to make this move work. The huge fee is just an additional problem as it heaps additional pressure on him.

He made a pass in the box in the first half and carragher was knocking one out over it. It was a simple turn and straight pass to Rio I think.

It won't be long onto Carragher calls him the best in the league

Its really bugging me at this stage at the lack of media criticism or even analysis of this Wirtz guy. For a guy costing 130m euros he seems to get a free pass week in, week out and again was atrocious today. Compare his treatment in the media to the treatment of Sesko who has been superb at half the price. Sorry to sound RAWKish but is it possible LFC are paying journos to stay quiet on this guy, i just don't get the silence?

I completely agree on the lack of scrutiny, but there’s no conspiracy, it’s just classic confirmation bias. The consensus amongst pundits was that Wirtz was going to be wonderful and Sesko was going to be a flop before a ball was kicked, so they’ve just grasped for evidence that supports it. That won’t last forever.

Like Sancho?

According to some, he still lacks fitness due to pre season. Hahaha!

He’s getting away with absolute murder. Imagine the coverage if this is how Pogba performed for us. He was miles more impactful and was absolutely hounded by everyone.

A match a few weeks ago he knocked a bouncing ball over an on rushing players head and the commentators were lost for words. Multiple replays and praise. Thought i was going insane until many other posters here noticed same thing. Definitely some sort of agenda there.

He was class when in Germany, but not 116m quid class. If he moved from Bayer to Bayern, would they of paid 100m+? I highly doubt it as he wasnt gonna bring 100m+ quality.

If he wasnt as hyped and liverpool paid 30m from "insert spurious club" nobody would be making a big deal about it but what would change is he wouldnt be playing much because he doesnt even look like a 30m quid player. Endo for example. They paid feck all, no expectations , people knows hes meh , nobody cares.

Not sure how big chance created is calculated but Wirtz has 4. Dalot has 5. Bruno has 24

"Creative genius"
And according to Caf, Dalot is the dumbest footballer alive. Every move ends with him. And Wirtz is worse than him, somehow

When you pay 116m he should be great most of the time with the odd average performance, he's been average and sometimes rubbish but rarely good this season

Why did they pay 116m though? I cant recall a bidding war? Or was it like us with Antony? Shafted into paying way over the odds.

He was touted to be the next Kevin De Bruyne, but he turned out to be more of Kev-in De-bench.

More needs to be made in the media that this lad cost them 100m+. He's being sheltered just because he's playing for Liverpool and the media love them.
Yes. They paid crazy money for him with zero return this season.
