Florian Wirtz | Der Fußballgott | Der Fluch ist gebrochen!

Hardly even noticed he was playing yesterday.

It will be interesting to see whether Liverpool double down and try to build around him. Nothing about him looks like a player worth doing that for

He was woeful! I was watching him closely and every time Liverpool had the ball, he kept making runs into our penalty box, almost playing like a 2nd striker. Not sure if it was an instruction from the manager, but surely as a number 10 you want to get on the ball as much as possible and influence the game. It seemed like he didn't really know what to do?

Sky asking Tim Sherwood about the failure of Liverpool's recruitment:

"Wirtz is a very good player. I don't have a problem with him."

Then he moves on to frimpong. Unbelievable Jeff.

Have to feel for Liverpool a bit. Isak, Ekitike and Wirtz cost around £300m and they were all missing when they went to Old Trafford.

Will admit I hadn’t seen him play a lot before this season but he’s just so weak.
Looks like a 14 year old playing in an u16 team.
You can’t coach physicality.
He’s done, will stick around for another couple of years as he’s too expensive to sell. Horrific purchase and will have a hugely detrimental effect on liverpools finances.
Thankfully we are on the verge of getting rid of our last couple of highly paid wasters.

Glad to see they are making mistakes in the transfer market. It felt at one point they could do no wrong. Long may it continue.

If Dortmund offer 40m then they should take it. There is no place for him in this 11. He doesn't offer enough creativity in the middle and he is ineffectual on the wing.
User name checks out. All kidding aside, it makes no sense for Liverpool to realize such big financial losses.

It makes no sense for them to build a team around him when he has no distinct position that would allow him flourish in the Premier League.

It sounds obvious to say but I do think this is the major reason they've had such a massive decline this season. Even more so than losing Klopp.

Transfers are so vital and they had a run of about 6 or 7 years where it felt like every signing they made was a smash hit. They were even good at getting rid of players at the right time for huge money like Coutinho. It was bound to run out eventually and last summer was an absolute disaster, they spent 500m to make themselves worse.

Even with us, look at how much finally having a good transfer window last summer has ultimately helped us this season.

Selling him for 40m generates a 50m+ loss.
Keeping him for another 12 months on this trajectory plummets his valuation even further and likely leads to a loan in his third season. They should take the hit now whilst they can still recoup some of the fee.

It seems most Liverpool fans are deluded about him in part thanks to sky giving him a motm award once and he will come good next season, I feel more likely it will be more of the same and he will be back at Leverkusen on loan for the 2027/28 season.

The point is that a sale like that would completely feck them from a regulatory perspective. They just can’t do that in practical terms.

Is he also on some monster wage like some of our own transfer failures? That would certainly complicate matters for them.

My best guess is that he will stay at least another full season at Liverpool, and probably improve a bit, especially if the team also starts playing better (goes hand in hand, of course). But he won't reach the levels required in the Premier League and he won't ever be worth what they paid. After next season he will then either fade to be more of a squad player or be sold/loaned out.

He has to hope for Alonso, if it doesn’t work out under him he‘s not made for the PL or just not as good as people thought. Or both.

Not astronomical, but a hefty amount.

The system is kind of fecked when it favours keeping a subpar player to selling them at a massive loss

Selling him next summer for 40m would "only" be a loss of about 30m. This is also about finances and balancing that aspect, not only about performances on the pitch.
However, they will neither sell or loan him out this summer.

Maybe they can get him banned for doping

As is the case for every time I've watched him, he may as well not have been on the pitch.

Doesn't he have 7/8 goals and 7/8 assists in his first season? I know he's been pretty shite in general but they are decent numbers ( like Cunha and Mbuemo) but a little fella like that was never going to come in and become an instant squad leader in a transitional season in a much tougher league. Their other big transfers have bombed just as hard if not worse. Once Isak gets back to resembling a footballer and they stick Ekiteke out on the left wing, one really good signing for Salah they'll annoyingly be fine for top 4 again next season.

it is a bit weird that he’s avoided scrutiny isn’t it?

That being said, I do think that he is a very talented player who is struggling to adapt to the physicality of the league, but also being utilized in completely the wrong position. He basically needs to be playing the Bruno role, which he’s obviously not as good at but it’s undoubtedly where he’d be at his best. It just shows you how good David Silva was, because he’s as small as Wirtz, probably not as fast, but could control a game of football. Wirtz will never be at that level, but I wouldn’t be surprised if him and isak eventually click together.

His numbers are okay really.

It’s just that fee. People expect more given he cost double Cunha and Mbuemo.

Thought he was injured because he was limping and even touched his foot multiple times but he stayed on. Was he faking an injury until they scored in 2nd half?? He was about to use it as an excuse the leave the match I reckon

What a a terrible signing. To spend 116m on this weak unimpressive footballer.

Liverpool wages are not necessarily the wages though. It is very heavily incentivized so win bonuses, goals, assists etc on top of the base wage. His wages could be up to 340k per week depending on results (according to a quick check on google)

7 goals, 10 assists in all competitions, but 5 and 4 in the Premier League for 31 appearances.

He's managed to run up his total G/A contribution a bit against the likes of Barnsley (4-1 win), Frankfurt (5-1 win), Galatasary (4-0 win) and Qarabag (6-0 win). Those games account for six G/A for Wirtz. They all count, of course, but the point is more that he hasn't had any real impact when it mattered most for Liverpool.

:lol:Underrated comment as people's kneejerk outrage kicked in.
