Florian Wirtz | Der Fußballgott | Der Fluch ist gebrochen!

Regardless of what you think about the price it's an incredible signing for Liverpool. Potential generational talent at the perfect age just after they have walked the league

That's what happens when a club gets bored to build aptly and suddenly tries an expensive trick aimed at CL glory... because the question is as simple as that: is Wirtz (already, for the fee) a difference maker at the highest level?

Liverpool haven't thought this one through. He will not live up to that price.

That's a ridiculous price. I'm sure he will do well though

You can see in that list, those transfers were all money burning. Remains to be seen if this ones different.

Pushes a few Utd wasters further down the list.

He's going to have to at least hit Salah levels of performances to be worth that money.

You want guaranteed generational talent for that fee, to be fair.
I think in the position that they are in overpaying doesn't matter if the player is as good as this guy is touted to be. They will sell a random bloke from their squad for £20 million to cover the difference

good lord. Hats off to Leverkusen, they really bit their hand off ... although they were the only team in the running. Impressive.

Overpriced but that’s what you pay for the top of the top. I’m seething at the fact they can buy the best European talent there is - and we can not.

The fact that he is going into a title-winning team will surely ease him in. He doesn't have to be the main man, so less pressure in that aspect. I have never seen him play, but that looks like a crazy amount of money.

He'll no doubt be brilliant for them with their track record of recruitment.

Shambolic that they so far ahead of us for these type of signings after the money blown in the last few years.

High transfer fees are hard to justify because there’s so many ways to win in football.

A fee like this suggests a supply of 1 to 3 players of his ilk in the world, which might turn out to be the case in terms of ability. But in terms of winning football matches, there’s always alternatives.

It’s why so many of our fees were so mental.

This is fecking insane.
I don't care how you slice the cake, it's the beginning of the end for this club!

Spare a thought for Leverkusen fans, Ten Hag is going to go HAM signing shite with that money. Hopefully picks up a few of our duds.

As opposed to our last few signings which were Frimpong reported in Euros, Chiesa in Euros and Mamardashvili in Euros?
What is your point here? It wasn’t some slate on your club. Just a simple question about how transfers are being reported on an English football forum. It’s highly offended me :p

Thinking that they could have picked up Osimhen and had money to spend elsewhere.
Big gamble...we'll see if it pays off.

Crazy money, but it is a testament to Liverpool's management that they can spend crazy money as they wish, even if the player for whom they are spending crazy money really isn't worth crazy money.

Liverpool fans are weirdly defensive about this signing.
Nah, there’s no point defending that this is insane money but there are a few persisent posters on here whining every offseason that Utd gets treated differently compared to other clubs regarding fees reported, add-ons in/excluded and they’re just a deluded bunch imo. You don’t hear half of them now that the fee is reported INCLUDED of add-ons, in Euros, which makes it look the highest it can look unless they went with $$. They would’ve gone in a proper meltdown if Romano had reported a £112m fee with £15m add-ond or something along those lines so I’m glad for their sanity that it’s just the €150m right now.

Pointless to argue otherwise that this is anything but obscene money, but if we’re signing £40-70m players we’re just adding depth as there’s no telling they’d be better than our current starting midfield. He’s the closest to a sure thing and exactly what we need imo so I’m still very happy we went after him. This isn’t meant as a dig in any way but signing Wirtz excites me more than signing Cunha and Mbeumo for the same amount of money - which made more sense for United’s needs anyway.

You’d expect him to be an absolute difference maker right from the get go now though, because the critics will be out in full force if he doesn’t hit the ground running next season. And not pointless goals against relegation teams, but deciding CL ties and important PL games.

Leverkusen, you have the money. We have Onana, Garnacho and Antony for you.

All of that may very well be true. There are also journalists who are highly incentivised to write up things that paint Utd in a negative light for very obvious reasons.

But that aside whilst I'm always partially teasing Liverpool fans on here. I have genuinely noticed that there seems to be a lot of defensiveness about the fee. It's cause you know what's coming when he either doesn't settle right away or has a bad run of form. As you alluded to.

A few days ago I simply said it was a bit of a risk to sign someone for that amount when you don't know if they will settle in this league and I don't think I've ever been met with such a vociferous reaction to such a nothing comment.

I'm sure the British press will be reporting it as £75m + add ons as in their eyes 'liverpool pull off the best deals':lol:
Every passing week the fee will go down claiming that it was fixed 30m plus performance based add ons

Wow, this is quite weird really. I would have had him down as maybe £70m. For £150m I would be expecting a Yamal level talent.
