Florian Wirtz | Der Fußballgott

This classical number 10 type of player seems to be prone to flopping at big clubs in general. James and Coutinho are others that come to my mind, who flopped after transfers to bigger clubs.
Would a flop score two goals in an unforgettable CL quarter final?

Sometimes, yeah. Flop might be a bit harsh. But I think all the players I’ve named failed to live up to their transfer fees and were a disappointment.

It was a joke, considering the team against whom Coutinho scored his brace.

I wasn’t sure if you meant that or something I forgot about. The Coutinho vs. Barca tie really is legendary.

What is going on with this weird Bayern - United love in in this thread? You guys are supposed to fight each other over the irrelevance of Bayern's Bundesliga titles, not team up.

Nah they can still do one. Doesn't mean they aren't right once a blue (and white) moon

Florian has it so rough. The poor lad is on 250 thousand Great British pounds a week and has to be subjected to playing against sides like Brentford. Maybe next week we’ll have an article written about the length of the grass on pitches and how it’s affected his ability to provide any end product. Or better yet, maybe after he completes five passes in a single game, every Bundesliga fan can re-enter this thread to tell us that the German Robert Snodgrass was worth half the national GDP of a small island.
He got 7 goals and 5 assists in the PL 2016/17.

Wirtz can only dream of such numbers.

Finding yourself agreeing with a Bayern fan should always make you reconsider your position. It's not too late for you. Remember, there's no shame in being wrong, only in staying wrong.

It might actually have something to do with you. Or more specific, they way you post.

Besides, there’s always been respect between Bayern and United.

I love how everyone is already certain that he is a flop, after not even half a season in a new league and a struggling team.

While he certainly looks a like a player that would do better in Spain than in England I think it is way too early to completely write him off just yet.

Pretty much time for him to show his worth once Salah goes for a month. Hopefully we stay relevant up until then. I’m looking forward to it.

Who's writing him off? We'd all put him down as the first name in the Liverpool XI.

Nope!

He’s a flop. He’s never going to justify the amount payed for him. Couple that with his early showing and you have the makings of a massive flop.

He is a flop. That’s how the narrative works. If a player arrives for a record fee, having not done it in the league before (like Isak) then they need to be performing at the level of the top 5 or 10 players in the league by Christmas or they’ll get labelled a flop. Once labelled a flop, it’s incredibly hard to shift.

It might not be fair, it might not be accurate, but that’s just how it works, especially if it’s a United or Liverpool player.

Bayern fans are very aware of the weaknesses of the Bundesliga, seeing as they piss it every year. They don't have any reason to give unnecessary praise to the league or its players.

Well that's quite an extreme

Not "everyone" is doing that. A lot of people are just discussing his performances to date.

Sancho was labelled 007 as soon as he arrived, Pogba was crucified by pundits week in week out, for some reason Sesko was voted worst signing of the summer, but we’re supposed to show mercy to a 116m player who has shown nothing other than being a low socks Van de Beek so far?

We’re gonna enjoy every minute of him not performing and write him off until he’s a PoTY contender

You are not supposed to show anything, it's just hilarious to me how modern football mechanics seem to work. I solely blame X for the brain drain and how people talk about football. Every player is instantly a flop, a fraud, a failure, a waste of money. Seems like this is the only thing allowed in football these days.

I have rarely set foot on X and I am more than happy to live with the status quo that he is currently flopping, hard.

To make him not a flop it is likely that Liverpool will have to spend nearly half a billion again. It’s delightful.

Maybe he is struggling because the whole team is playing poor. He played well vs madrid when the whole team was good.

Sounds like a players that's well worth the money. Wasn't even specially good that match either, just better than his usual "invisible man" performance so far.

Exactly. Because he's been crap, an average performance becomes an out of this world performance. If Ronaldo, at his peak, but those performances in against Real and West Ham, everyone would say he's past his best.

What do you mean?
Mercy, you said you don't feel like we have to show mercy to him and you are right, you don't. I reckon it's just a general dislike of mine that everyone is directly put into a box. I hate it even more with our own players. When we signed Dorgu I said in his thread "The lad is young, he is going to have some bad games, don't rip him to shreds when he has a weaker run of games." and got back a sarcastic comment like "Oh yeah thanks, we wouldn't have known without your input". What happened? Three games in and the jackals were all over him "waste of money", "brain dead", "never good enough". It's all instant gratification and if a player doesn't deliver it seems to be replaced by this weird joy of tearing players down. Admittedly I would love for Liverpool to waste some money, their transfers have been way too good over the last 6 or 7 years, they are due a massive flop, all I'm saying is that I think the jury is still out on their players if they really are flops. That being said, don't let me stop you lot from having fun, I'm probably just too old to get a rise out of this modern football culture.

Wait, he didn't get given the goal?

I turned it off as soon as it went in.
