I've got tickets for the quarter finals at Wembley next Saturday.

It's the winner of group B: Mexico, Gabon, South Korea, Switzerland.

Vs

Runner up of group A: Team GB, Senegal, UAE, Uruguay.

So obviously hoping Team GB limp through their Group.

I don't understand why the competition is starting before the actual opening ceremony's taken place. Is that simply because they can't fit it all in otherwise?

I have not followed the qualification, but I note that Germany nor Argentina will be participating. Who are the favorites for the medals?
Spain and Brazil.

Shocking, I know.

I fancy Japan to do well. They have some bright young talents and have only taken two over-age players.

The Olympics only lasts for just under 2 weeks so they need to start the football earlier. I think from memory they also start the hockey early as well.

Frustrating that all the matches are packed in together due to time constraints. Means that I'll have to chose between watching Team GB or Brazil tomorrow. The Quarter-finals day could be good though with 4 consecutive matches.

At least they'll be able to get some footage of sunshine today.

This is actually an okay game which surprises me as the other times i've watched women's football it's been embarrassing. Probably helps that this is international level though.

 I think it's fair to say there are some "horrific" moments but the game on the whole has thrown up its fair share of decent football.

I think the technical standard of women's football at these competitions is generally pretty high. The problem has never been that women can't play football, it's just that at grassroots there's far less interest (from fans and potential players) so facilities and coaching aren't at the same standard as they are in the men's game.

I'm looking forward to the Brazil games, their star player Marta won the FIFA WPotY Award every year from 2006-2010 and was runner up in 2005 and 2011 but I've never seen her in an actual game.

I want to make a nuance; women's Olympic football I have no issues with what so ever. For the men it's a different story. Having said that, women shoudn't be doing sports anyway.
