"Its all about the points at this stage of the season"

And it's used at the start, middle and end of the season, all the time.

No exact words as such, but people who still talk about footballer peaks as if they all come at 28-30, when in reality a lot of players have already peaked by 25.

"six and a half of one; half a dozen of another"

I've no idea where that came from or what it means. All I know is commentators like saying it.
18 months or so ago, but if you're still around, I think you've mis-heard this one mate

Hmm, but that's partly just the difference between theory and the reality of how the rules are applied. It's the same with delaying taking throw in and free kicks. In theory it all gets added on and there's no advantage to be gained by time wasting, but in practice some of the wasted time normally does go missing so it does run down the clock.

Not really a phrase, but the narrative that Shaw has become good since Telles came. Shaw has always been quality and less than 2 years ago he won United players and fans’ POTY awards.

#1 will always be " take/grab the game by the scruff of the neck "

This really grinds my gears.

Calling performances like West Hams tonight "heroic". I think they're the opposite, completely cowardly.

"Keepers should never be beaten at the near post"

Doesn't matter if the player is five yards out and has leathered it into the top corner, you should be saving it.

Anything to do with the first goal or next goal being so important

Feck off I could tell you that at 5 years old and you’re getting paid at least 6 figures to tell me that

Came in here to post the same thing, really bugs me!
I remember Stuart Pearce asking where the Phil Jones’s and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlains were for a an U21 game years ago, it sounds so ridiculous. There’s only one of them you numpty. Plus Phil Jones was probably on the injury table anyway.

Or when a presenter says we'll be back after the break to discuss the game with 'messers' and then names 3 pundits.

That's code for "He dived".

And when someone is trying to get his or her point across to someone, assured of their own righteousness:

"Give your head a wobble."

And when he or she is the only sane view in a sea of idiocy:

"State of this place."
Username checks out. And, hey no common sense allowed here.

When a shot hits the post and goes wide 'it was off by a balls width'
No it still wouldn't have gone in.

“And it’s live”

Cheers For the heads up Martin
I hate that with a passion, but i also find it amusing that whenever anyone in the future watches old games or highlights and hears his annoying catchphrase that it won't actually be live.

Martin just retire you old cnut.

"Martial...He's isolated Skrtel here..."
"Needs a loan to the Championship" for every fecking young player as if getting kicked by Stoke is going to always help a player develop.

"We need more goals in the squad" as if buying a striker and sticking him in means the team will score more, even though scoring goals as a squad is much more than just a good striker and is arguably more about creation.

"Play for the badge" as if the majority of players aren't trying their hardest every game because they are professionals and also world class athletes that are competitive as feck.
