Chelsea (the saviours of football) fan.
Derby's previous managers have been quite uninspiring. If it's true that he's getting Jody Morris in with him, than that's a very good move. He has been excellent for Chelsea youth teams who always play some of the best football in the league irrespective of the players.
I'd be gutted to lose Jody but Joe Edwards is the real shining light of our developing coaches.

Funny how any link of giggs to a decent job was met with so much anger, venom and dare I say hatred, but similar appointments or links such as Gerrard, lampard, bellamy, arteta are met with balance. Not always agreement but no screaming about 'entitlement' and earning ones stripes. And no this was not just re the United job. We seem to specialise in fans with a fundamental dislike of our team, ex players and even a 'tactically limited' Ferguson.

Anyway rant over, a surprising appointment but for some reason I think lampard will do well and will be clever in who he surrounds himself with coaching wise. John Terry is looking for a gig  if all else fails he can get uncle 'arry on the ol dog and bone

All those points were made because the reports were that he was turning down clubs of the same stature as Derby.

I don't see why anyone would scream entitled after they've already got the job anyway :houllier:

I’d like to see him do well. I’ve always liked Lampard as a player and he comes across well on television and is quite articulate. Very smart man by all accounts and seems tactically astute.

As a side point, I’ve actually seen him on a few documentaries discussing British history, so being a fellow history buff has always resonated with me too :)

Good luck to him.

I was hoping for an established manager. Derby need to get promoted. Our consistent bottling has cost us top young talent like Will Hughes and Jeff Hendrick. The regular change of managers have cost us a lot of money and recently Pearson and Rowett bought in players more suited to a pragmatic style rather than playing possession football.

It's a big job, with Lampard the best.

Lampard’s past bitterness in defeat to United has always coloured my judgement of him, but be interested to see how he does as a manager.

The thing with Derby is that each year they do really well until January and then seem to fail time and time again. If they can stop doing that then they have a great chance. Would be good for the City if they got up.
Yes you are spot on, for the last few years the post-Christmas slump has been quite alarming really. If you talk to the fans though I think it's a mentality thing. Not one Derby fan I know was that desperate to go up this season because the squad is nowhere near good enough for the Premier League - although Lampard might fix that if he's given money to spend.

And I think psychologically a bit of panic set in, and maybe even some of the players thought hang on, if we get promoted I'll probably end up getting sold because they'll want an upgrade in my position. That kind of thing does happen if you're not a strong squad - look at Wolves for the opposite end of the scale, lots of players already PL ready.

So there was an element of foot off the gas in the second half of the season. I don't think Lampard will let that happen - if he can get promotion in his first season as a manager that will look very good on his CV and if they do get promoted I suspect he will be able to attract a much higher calibre of player than Rowett would have.

I can get why Rooney gets so much negativity in this place but with Giggs I just don't get it. Or maybe they just remember his stint as LVG's assistant, I just don't get it.

I appreciate Jody’s philosophy of football and wanted him to replace Conte. Yes I’m aware that’s insane and would never happen.

It will be very interesting to see how his genius mind adapts to management. I wish him luck as he seems a decent guy judging from his punditry.

''Frank Lampard scored one of the highest set of marks ever recorded by the company doing the tests, and higher than me," Dr English said. He declined to released the England midfielder's precise score, but the newspaper quoted sources claiming it was more than 150 on the IQ scale, putting him in the most intelligent 0.1 per cent of the population.
He's definitely intelligent. 150 seems ridiculous but someone has to be in the top 0.1%. 65000 people on the UK are

One of my mates is at Pride Park with his two kids at some kind of tournament, just sent me a video of Lampard coming out and meeting all the kids.

Nice touch.

What are the chances! Love it here - except for the new estates being built of Bishops Drive - will make the traffic even more of a nightmare.
Both of them, another being built at the bottom of Lime Lane up from the Windmill Pub.

I like Lampard, always seemed like a sound guy. Think he can do well.

Derby spend loads of cash! For a Championship club they are very rich. Owned by Mel Morris of CandyCrush fame
Reigned in by FFP now so I wouldn’t expect a great deal of expenditure for the next season or two.

My brother in law is a big Derby fan; his great uncle or similar was a director many moons ago. I watched most of both of their play-offs v Fulham, and did think that the latter looked far more PL ready than Derby.

A lot of Rowett's signings seemed decent but elderly. I imagine a big rebuild is needed, despite them having spent a hell of a lot over the last few seasons. If Lampard does manage to get them up on his first attempt, it will be no mean achievement.

What's the name of the chap who was a Director? The Chairman of the company where I work is currently also a Director, it's his second stint having done it many years ago as well.

Yep it will be mad. I cycle to work each day down and up Mansfield Road and I'm dreading when it's done.

Point 1,no they weren’t.

Point 2, I’ve mentioned several managers other than lampard and include when they were linked with clubs.

Not sure. Bellaby probably.

My brother in law is quite a bit older than me, and I'm no spring chicken, so we're talking a long time ago! I'm seeing him next week, so will ask.

I think he'll do well and a pretty brave move from Derby.
Didn't know he had a 150+ IQ, that is impressive!

Anything less then the playoffs will be a failure for him, arguably the 2 bests sides went up (Wolves and Fulham), none of the sides that went down were that unexpected

Could obviously be a success but it's anyone's guess. I'm guessing he'll end up like Phil Brown back in 2005, who stepped up from Bolton's assman role and looked out of his depth.

I probably would've gone for Lee Johnson or maybe even Warburton, who was sacked from Forest but did well previously at this level with a cash strapped Brentford.

Derby have wasted a lot of money in recent seasons so I wonder if they've reached a point where they need to balance the books and some managers weren't interested in taking that on.

150?! No way man. He could split defenses, not atoms. That's Mensa levels.

Well actually, the way someone speaks and what they say are the most obvious markers of intelligence. Unless Giggs has autism and struggles with languages and expressing himself but that doesn't seem to be the case.

If you think Gary Neville is intelligent from the way he speaks...then I got bad new for you.
Where did you get that from?

Chelsea (the saviours of football) fan.
They've nicked Jody Morris from us (was our Under 18s coach for the past few years).

Expect Derby to get a few Chelsea kids on loan.

Also, I'll put this here...
