Real question - Has he done anything in his career to justify his price tag? What if with time he improves but is no better than we already have? How good was he at Shakhtar? I refuse to believe he was as shite there as he has been for us.

He may not have lit up the league but it's apparent whenever he gets minutes that there's potential in there. His tackling, his ability to quickly change the tempo of a game with a little trick and turn, his eye for a pass, his pace and his willingness to just keep running - ideally he should be Herrera's like for like substitution in the 70th minute. Yes, he looks like he's reaching for every ball and cannot win physical battles, but surely there are workarounds and compromises that can be made? Baffling how he cannot get into Ole's counterattacking outfit with those attributes.

I refuse to believe that we could write off a player's potential so soon into his career here. It could very well be that Andreas has been waiting for a chance for much longer; his 'youth academy' status pushing him up higher in Ole's pecking order. Maybe we want to decide one way or the other if Pereira has a future here before we help Fred finally settle into the team.

Whatever the issue is, I hope it is sorted soon. I do believe we have a player in there, and that he deserves minutes to show what he can bring to the table.

Well said. I'm a big admirer. Even when he was risking some things and they weren't coming off I liked the thought behind it. Hes got great left foot, very energetic and sharp accurate passing. All skills that we need to complement our midfield.

His main issue is that he lacks concentration. I have seen him many times fail to control a simple pass and misplaced a simple pass. But that’s right he should suit under Ole, if there is a player with good off ball movement to play fluid under Ole, that’ll be Fred. He likes to play with pace, quick tempo, linking up, and can use both feet.

    Agreed.

It's why we need to give him minutes to adjust to the league. He's used to playing in the Ukranian league where the intensity isn't the same as the Premier League and the margins aren't as fine. The standards at United are much higher than at Donetsk, also.

I'm not worried about him at all, he's clearly got the ability. We just need to be patient with him.

Yeah. People think that we just throw 50 million quid to sign a nothing player. People disregard the countless hours of scouting, data analyzing and research by the coaching team before signing him.

We obviously know nothing, but we like to write players off when things doesn't shine as they wanted.

I've said elsewhere that Fred has all the requisite technique and intelligence that he needs. What he lacks is the strength to make it count under physical pressure. At this point in his United career, it would make sense to put him on a dedicated stength training program.

I have nothing concrete to back this up. But if the United coachng staff concur, that would explain his absence from the starting XI and only occasional appearances on the bench. It's not that he isn't a better option than Pereira (he's superior in every way, imo). It's that he needs the rest. It's easy to forget that players need recovery time from activities taken away from the pitch.

If Fred were deemed 'not good enough', he'd have been frozen out like Fellaini. Instead, he's being kept to one side much like Lukaku over the last few weeks.

It looks likes Romelu has been on a weight loss program recently. You can see it by the fact his energy levels were lower than usual (hence even less running than normal) and the obvious changes in his physique. The last few weeks have seen him return to his old self. An extracurricular gym regimen for Fred looks reasonably likely, considering we've only just witnessed it being used on another player.

On the other hand, maybe the coaching staff just don't think he's good enough. However, I personally don't see that as being the case given the obvious talent he possesses.

If I were a betting man, I'd put money on also Fred being asked to dedicate his time to physical development in the short term.

Questions need to be asked on how shite this guy must be in training. Ole has effectively decided he has only three good midfielders and despite desperately needing a change in midfield in several games he never seems to bring on Fred. Pereira who was dogshit in the last game happened to get a start before him in the last game so he must be really bad atm. I fear selling Fellaini could turn out to be a terrible decision.

We're in a tight situation and can't afford giving chances to deadwood. We saw what happened when we started Periera so not sure Fred will play much for the rest of the season.

Next season gonna be make or break for him.

Think he'll get a start against Fulham, need some rotation in the midfield. Understand why he's being used so sparingly this season, he clearly has some adaptation problems to the pace of the game. You see it pretty often that you just aren't used to the intensity and pace of the league. He takes a touch and there's always someone on him, whereas he might be more used to having time to take a touch. Wouldn't entirely be surprised if next season he looks like a new player and suddenly good enough to be a starter for us. Time will tell.

We really need him to step up, we’re really thin in the midfield.

Play him vs Chelsea in the cup. That’s probably the best game for him.

Will play next week. If he does not, we are bound to have a major injury crisis in midfield.

Yeah, I think thats as good as any game for him to play. Can see him for Herrera (given the week we have ahead to get Herrera some time to run his heart out)

I'd play him against Fulham and against Chelsea in the cup. There's a good player in there somewhere, we need to give him game time (and rotate Herrera/Matic) to try and get the best out of him.

He has a lot of talent and technical ability, he will get game time, it's hard slotting him in as Pogba-Matic-Herrea have a good overall balance, but it has to happen as we need to keep our Mids fresh.

The less he play, the more error prone he'll be just like Pereira. 50m splashed and it's not even clear if player is in a match rhythm.

Sort it out and United may have quite useful type of midfielder before a decisive part of the season.

I wonder whether we are giving him a lot of fitness work to get his stamina up.

Often when players are going through an intense training period they won't play the matches. They did that with Lukaku when Jose finally dropped him.

I like Fred's playing style and if he can cut out the sloppy mistakes he will be a great player. I think like Lindelof once he settles into the league properly he will be fine.

I'd actually try him on the right wing in Lingard's position. He's just as quick and agile, seems to dribble well and can cross/shoot. Maybe a lop sided 4-4-2 with Sanchez/Martial in the LW/wide forward role playing a little higher.

Think he'll come good. Maybe not this season but next when he's more settled. The problem with him is that he has zero composure when the ball comes to him. It's like he feels the need to play like a headless chicken. That and he takes too many touches before releasing the ball. Just needs to calm the feck down and keep it simple.

I think it's a confidence issue tbh, he needs to get used to the tempo of the league and have a run of games. Problem is that we had a very bad start this season and we're now in a situation where we can't afford to give him time to adapt.

The worst signing in our history candidate at the moment. At least the guy who lived rough was only around 10m.

Theres just no point on judging him at all this season. We'll find out in the summer if we actually have hope for him to come good or if he'll be sold right away.

The dream I had a couple of days ago about PSG beating us by 2 goals, Pogba get a red card and everyone completely wrote us off, it all came reality but I also dreamt about Fred putting a world-class show in Paris, getting 1 assist and 1 goal from free kick, running the show, hunting for balls, launching counter-attack with his impressive passing and worked hard his ass off to stop PSG's attacking, we managed to win 1-3 and knock them out of UCL and advanced to the quarter-final, I hope it is true.
