MOTM performance. Really hope that when Pogba comes back, we have a midfield of MCt, Fred and Pogba

Fred has never had a game nearly as good as Herrera did against Conte's Chelsea in 2017
Ah yes, we all remember that game. If he played like that all the time, we would've given him whatever he wanted, and he would've brought out the best of Pogba. I'm actually more confident with Fred as our destroyer, he's built quite solidly, the only issue was his clumsiness which he shook off today and looked assured on the ball. Can't wait to see Pogba back in the side with him in form.

If Fred continues to play like that for a few more months, he will be back to Brazil national team.

Herrera was and is twice the player. Proven over a long period of time. But then a couple of good games is always enough for the fickle to flourish.

Fred was decent today, mind.
I gave my MOTM to Fred, he was great today, but Ander was twice the player.

I'm not comparing him to fernandinho - but when he keeps his game simple you can see much more what type of player he is.

A player who can just focus on breaking down an attack, recycle possession and occasionally make some good switching passes. I'm glad he is keeping his game simple, rather than trying to be Juninho Pernambucano for us.

Glad he's doing better.

I wanted Ole to bring him back and get him match fit and in tune with the side as needs must. I know he's better than what he's showed in the past. Hopefully he can keep it up as we really need him. We need 3 players in the midfield area and Matic is too slow now.

My suggestion was Fred Mctom with Pogba ahead and Rash Martial and James attacking.

Best offensive game I've seen from Fred maybe ever. Maybe all those shit balls from earlier games finally got him into a rythem. Still going to need to see a lot more of this if he wants a spot on the team come summer.

He's been doing very well in the last 3-4 games. Hopefully he's finally settled now and he can be the player we hoped he was when we bought him.

He is a good fit with McTominay. He gets to be the more offensive and aggressive of the two in the double pivot. Even if they both carry both defensive and offensive loads. A lot like when he played with Taras Stepanenko at Shakhtar.
The more offensive CM of a double pivot is his best position. He was good today.

I honestly haven't seen much of Fred today, I was really surprised after the game that he got the man of the match here. I gave him a solid 6, the 7,8 he got surprised me a lot. I actually rated Pereira higher today and that has nothing to do with his fluke goal. I've got to see some highlights to see what I might have missed here.
My vote went to James, a real handful each time he plays.

I too think James was outstanding, but Fred was also very very good today. He was more creative than normal.

Really good performances, but he should really be delivering these performances week in, week out, and not just against the likes of Partizan and Brighton. We still need another top midfielder, but if we purchase a dominant CM to play in a two behind the 10, do we drop McTominay at the moment.

Both players have their limitations, or is it a case neither are ultimately good enough to play at the highest level. When I watch Fred, I see similarities to Wijnaldum, but the difference between them is that Wijnaldum knows exactly what his role his, his strengths and limitations and how to impact on the game.

When I watch Fred, he seems to want to be both the aggressor, but also wants to get on the ball and spray passes and come deep to collect the ball, which he is not good enough to do. This seems to be one of the most frustrating things, and the coaching staff really need to define roles of our players better, which might come down to not having a defined system where everyone knows their role. The day of the box to box CM seems to be gone, we're in an era where specialist positions are now so important, for example CDM destroyer, DLP, players who flourish in a 3, and defined number 10's.

My MOTM. Easily his best performance for us. Very good forward passing between the lines. Was the key imo.

Next step would be to maintain a decent level.

Took a lot of stick and rightly so at times but I always felt there was a player in there. Joining Utd at our most toxic time was never going to be easy. Said before, he could have disappeared especially what's been said in the media and by previous players but didn't. I know some on here will still refuse to see it but that can only be cause they refuse to admit they are wrong. That said, Fred has to convince people that this is level and more, and not a one off although for me he's been playing well for weeks.

......the vultures will still be circling.

It’s Pereira who’s going to make way for Pogba.

Fred was once again very good, seems to really have gotten his head down and getting down to hard graft with a fair bit of creativity.

I'm circling.

Still, he played well today and I hope he continues performing like this. I don't want a brilliant performance each week. I would rather have him play decent each week than stellar one game and brainf*rts the next.

He's not coming back . You are going to have to accept it and get back out there . Someday you will love again

As a footballer, you dream of having someone like Fred on your team. You can press out of position, you can take risks on the ball, you can move freely around the pitch because you know you have someone like Fred busting a third lung covering every blade of grass around you. He helps out every team member in their defensive commitments. It's really an absurd amount of running. He's always had that in his gas tank but was always lacking the mental rpm on the ball to be a 50m midfielder.

He's got it now. He's a baller.

The Fred Pogba (#10) Scott midfield will be godly.

Good performance, seems some going overboard but then again looking at our current standards, its not a surprise.

Im hoping when Pogba is back that Ole leaves McTominay and Fred doing the defensive work and tells Pogba to go and get involved higher up the pitch. Give Pogba a free role with the front 3. Thats probably the way to get the best out of Pogba anyway.

Player is given the time to settle into new country and new league and then gets a consistent run of games and he starts to play like he's more comfortable and confident. Who could have predicted it?
