He’s pretty good, but I’m not sure he moves the needle. I don’t think he’s any better than anyone we’ve already got and it’s the one area of the pitch we’re quite well stocked in.

Yeah wouldn't say Rudiger at 32 is old, would also be looking at Maignan because keepers can hit their prime then. I also noticed Fabian Ruiz only has year left on deal but INEOS would stamp too old

Neves is a no brainer. We should probably slip them £10-15m and take him now.

He massively moves the needle in terms of depth. He's a much better fill in for Lisandro and De Ligt than the players we have and if hes playing better than either of the two he can keep his spot
He'd be on much lower wages than Maguire too
Goretzka isn’t plagued by injuries. He’s just a horrible player and I find it incredibly funny, that you would suggest going for him.

29 at the start of next season so I don’t see what we gain by blocking Yoro and Heaven. I think there’s a good chance we retain Maguire on a lower wage at this point.

If they're good enough they'll play. Yoro plays when he isnt performing well enough. Thats been one of our issues this season. Heaven will get gametime if he continues to play at the same level
I think it depends how high of a line we intend to play. Seems stupid to retain Maguire on big wages, even on pay cut if it leaves him open to his obvious weakness. He'll also be 33 at the start of that season.

Yoro has played through bad form because we’ve been playing three centre backs, he wouldn’t have needed to in a back four. Heaven wouldn’t get game time with four centre backs in front of him.
Yeah I guess the difference is that he can be fifth choice on a one year contract. Senesi would demand a four year contract, a signing on bonus, for probably similar wages to what we could pay Maguire.
I’m not a fan of blocking game time for Yoro and Heaven unless we’re signing a legit top defender to start every week. Senesi isn’t that.
Maguire has been linked with Chelsea. They need a experienced defender at the back. Whether they will pay him what he wants at 33 remains to be seen.

Maybe if he wants that, I'm not sure he'd like such a limited role. I don't think he blocks the game time, they would be legitimately competing for the starting spot and wouldn't necessarily expect to be first name on the team sheet without earning it. I think that would be healthy for both.

Bournemouth are 13th its not a surprise they have one of the worst defensive records. However they can have 1 player thats been better than the other defenders and goalkeeper. That player is available for free
I dont know what you're expecting from a free transfer. Its unlikely to be a player you would ordinarily pay £38-52 million like our most expensive CBs. But you can get a player who has performed as good as them this season and thats Senesi. He's had to play next to Diakite who hasnt been much better than Yoro, and an 18 year old. He's played in front of one of the worst goalkeepers in the league this season statistically. Hes had a harder job than our CBs
Heaven will play instead of Senesi if hes good enough to break through. Senesi would be cover for when De Ligt and Marftinez are injured (happens quite a lot) or out off form and rotation for cup competitions, unless Heaven is playing well enough to take that place. And that would be success, pushing Heaven to play at his best to get into the team especially for the cost of a free transfer. We didnt need to have terrible options to bring our young players through in the past. They broke though because they took the chances when they were given to them. Heaven will do the same if hes going to make it
Fergie sold Kanchelskis, Hughes and Ince to make room for the class of 92, it didn't just happen by chance that they emerged as first team stars. Admittedly squads were smaller back then but young players do need a path to the first team. I wouldn't be against Senesi if Maguire goes but we can't have 6 first team CBs, plus Shaw and Mazraoui and expect to be able to develop the youngsters.
I do get where you’re coming from and I think if it was any other position on the pitch then I’d agree that a premier league quality player for free would be smart business.
It’s more of a conversation if Maguire leaves but I don’t see him wanting him to come and compete with Martinez, de Ligt and Yoro anyway. Yoro has had good patches since he joined, let’s not pretend he’s not a good player, we’ve invested £60 million so need to give him minutes.
A proper left back will also allow Shaw to cover centre back.

it remains to be seen if those negotiation tactics also work with a player who might be a glimpse less hard to replace and less high in demand than Upa....
My mate works in Saudi and has watched him live a couple of times, says he's put weight on and literally can't get about the pitch.
Danny Welbeck (35) or Raul Jimenez (34) as backup CF?
Jimenez isn’t a terrible shout. Outside of a brief stint at Atleti many years ago, he’s not done the big club thing. As long as he’s aware he’s very much backup and might not play loads, it’s not the worst idea.
Personally, I’m vey concerned about depth and doing a Newcastle if we get back into the CL. We might need to add a couple of players like that, to give us a season or two, purely to eat up some minutes here and there.

We should look to bring in Danny Welbeck (just to stop him scoring against us), no seriously on a free it's a no brainer. He can rotate with Sesko/be cover to him. He is in great physcial condition, has a huge amount of experience and a local lad who knows the club.
His wages shouldn't be a problem either, not sure what he is on at Brighton, but if the price is right with signing on fee etc. Definitely we should consider this so we can put more funds into other areas needed.

Welbeck's on around £60k but I don't see the point, Sesko will be another year developed and we have used several players up top including Bruno, Cunha, Mbuemo who can all do a job - Areas of concern for me are full backs, midfielders and a LW before another striker

IMO, if that Blackburn transfer had materialised, he would eventually have been a United player.
Because if we are back in Europe we will need a bigger squad, not just the roles you have outlined. Welbeck would be close to Sesko in terms of style but can also bring European experience. For free on a fair wage it’s a no brainer and we’d still have budget for the others
