Free agents/last year of contract - summer 26

I wouldn't entertain Benzema even on a voluntary contract, hes toxic.

Lewa 1+1 would be interesting if it doesn't feck our wage structure. Our strikers are all young, and if we get CL football might not be the worst idea.

Goretzka walks into the team.

Vlahovic is struggling to impress in Italy and Mbeumo is more than adequate to start or cover for Sesko. So that wouldn't make sense.

Neves is a good player and if he's fit and free I'd have him for the squad. 100%.
We are Manchester united man. We don’t do more than adequate. And why change our highest scorers postion? We need two strikers. Which other top club has one striker????

Welbeck's on around £60k but I don't see the point, Sesko will be another year developed and we have used several players up top including Bruno, Cunha, Mbuemo who can all do a job - Areas of concern for me are full backs, midfielders and a LW before another striker
We currently have the smallest number of games in around 50 years. Next season we will be a more established team fighting for 4 trophies again. Plus those Wednesday night Champions league matches, it's been a while since we were doing that. We will definitely need more of a squad next season, he has so much experience and talent, plus I'm sure he wouldn't mind being a squad player, you never know with injuries too.

As far as I've seen Ederson from Atlanta has yet to sign a new deal, making him a free agent in summer.

It will be interesting to see where he ends up, as he'd be a solid signing for anyone on a free.

Probably Juve.

Walks is probably the word. He’s another schweinsteiger

He's a free agent next summer, not 2026.

Signing Welbeck on a free just makes so much sense. He's still playing extremely well and could be a great mentor to Sesko.

Probably been covered elsewhere on here, but Mateta is out of contract in the summer and Palace have broken off discussions with him. At a reasonable salary we could do worse for a striker. Would make a decent backup/competition for Sesko.

If we invest in two young highly rated midfielders, to add Goretzka on a free for a couple of season is a no brainer

I would strongly advise United to the contrary. He is a shadow of his former, already overrated back then, self. He’s not worth the wages and not good enough for you. There’s a reason our fans are basically counting the seconds, until he’s gone for good.

How would transfer fee be though?

I beg to differ. I think he has been a monster and one of the integral performers for your 2020 treble, and thereby actually somewhat underrated. The only thing overrated probably was the contract Bayern gave him, but that was down to the precedents set with Hernandez and Sané.

Yeah he struggled with form and fitness but then he has shown absolute top mentality when not being first choice anymore as a squad player: your club board tried to bully him out and basically sold him off publicly because Tuchel and Nagelsmann didn't like his profile (the expert that is Tuchel of course insisting on the mythical "proper DM" from the Premier League in Palhinha) and the club wanted to save wages, but he just kept his head down and, despite Palhina being bought, Pavlovic emerging, and everyone writing him off, kept showing up for the team when needed. And now he's back to being an important performer in an excellent team, even if not first choice ahead of an excellent Pavlovic.
So I'd bet his teammates and also the match going fans wouldn't share your assessment. Actually a bit of a similar story to Gnabry.

Should he get the kind of wages he's currently getting and a long contract? Of course not. Should he be regarded as one for the future, obviously not. He's on a free, he's both physical and technical, can play anywhere in midfield and even slot in at CB, has vast experience playing at the top, a goal threat and a bullying presence. I also think he'd prefer having a go with a big PL club on a shorter, less lucrative contract to getting a comfy pensioner deal in a lesser league. And, again, he has shown the mentality to be ready even when not being first choice.
He'd be a perfect Casemiro replacement for a couple of years, while we properly invest in young top players alongside him.

He's out of contract next summer in 2027.

We won’t find much common ground. I disagree with the comparison to Gnabry, as he actually found form again and is a relevant part of our team.
Goretzka only plays in meaningless games, to allow others to sit out and that’s about it. His physicality has deteriorated in the last few years and the fact, that he was able to play despite Palhinha joining, has mostly to do with Palhinha being an absolute nothing player without any lobby at the club and certainly not because Goretzka is good in any meaningful way. The thing Goretzka has going for him is, that he had a long contract he didn’t want to give up, combined with a good reputation with our board. Which made it difficult for our managers to get rid. However, that three managers in a row tried to get rid of him should tell the whole story.

I especially doubt that he could be a replacement for Casemiro, as Goretzka is notoriously bad at keeping his position and loves to attack again and again, ignoring if someone is covering for him or not.

The thing I would agree with is, that it’s somewhat impressive that he sat all this out and still got some playing time. But that’s about it. To me, signing him would be mistake. And I personally do not know a single Bayern fan who thinks otherwise.

Fair enough about the first sentence so I'll just adress the Casemiro bit. The role Casemiro is playing for us has been different from his Real role where he cleaned up defensively after other midfielders. For us, he's someone you want involved in building up and attacking because he's making an impact, but himself having to be cleaned up after more. He's also someone with experience at the very top and presence in the dressing room. Which we will need going forward while our squad is in continued rebuilding, especially so in midfield which will certainly see an almost complete change next summer and hopefully some young players coming in.

This would be a interesting one. Personally I think he's too old and way past his best. But if he accepts a squad role. He could fill in multiple positions as a backup i.e. CB, LB and DM.

Would love it! 10 years ago. Great player in his day. No idea if he could bring anything today.

It would be ludicrous. Absolute quality in the day, but has scarcely kicked a ball in anger in years and has looked washed up on the odd occasion he has. Only reason he’s still at Real is because he went on a free so his wages are astronomical (£300k+ I think)

No fecking thanks, almost as bad a signing for Real as Hazard was as his injury record there is outrageously poor.

I'd rather bring Neymar for god sake.

I t
We should be targetting Rudiger
I think with the loss of Casemiro we need a DM or a defender with lots of experience in the squad. Not necessarily a regular starter. But someone other than just Maguire.

Chelsea are the example for a squad with no experienced pros.

Played less than 600 minutes in La Liga since the end of 2023, ACL tear, meniscus tear. He was a wonderful player, but it's obviously a horrendously bad idea to expect anything from him at this point.

Think we can shop for our experienced striker here. Lewandowski, Jimenez, Vlahovic should all be available for free. Mateta and Richarlison have one year left

I’ve just seen an ESPN article stating Rico Henry is out of contract the end of the season. I’ve not seen much of him this season, does anyone who has watched him regularly think he could be a good pick up? Home grown and I liked what I saw of him in attack and he could fill in for Shaw from the season after next while Dorgu develops hopefully.

You know what, providing United also sign a LW, then maybe Harry Wilson on a 2 year contract wouldn't be the worst idea with how Amad has been...
