Absolute car crash of a post mate. You don’t win premier league titles and champions leagues by having a “bang average” player at the fulcrum of your team. Shocking post.
I don't think he was bang average but I do think that people overrate Carrick massively. Probably in light of the utter mess that has been our midfield over the past few years. He was a good players but few people raved about him when he was actually playing for us. Get better with the telling.

He was a good midfielder not a great one. We have just had to suffer through rubbish for far too long.

Entitled to your opinion, I find the hype for Carrick embarrassing TBH he could not have been more bang average if he tried.
It shows someone's level and knowledge of football (lack of) if they don't rate Michael Carrick.
Instrumental to so many titles, beyond me how people can think he was just your average PL midfielder.

Behind the right goal post as "Whiteside shoots!"
2 Things....

1st adding to what you are saying, these stats were achieved playing for a dominant Ajax in a relatively weak league (strength in depth) and Barcelona a dominant team in a relatively weak league (strength in depth).....

2nd thing Carrick should not be used as an example of a midfielder to aspire to.... he was bang average and way over hyped on here, the guy was on his way out of the club his performances were so poor until we had a defensive crisis and he had to step in as a CB, admittedly after that reprieve his performances stabilised but still he was, meh at best, he was just slightly better than other bang average midefielders we had at the time, he was fortunate to play in front of a great defence otherwise he would have been exposed more, the worst sideways and backpass merchant I have ever seen play for us, and gave numerous goals away passing to attackers outside our own box,
Are you on the wum? Carrick was “meh at best”? Absolute bollocks.

Show us some examples of Carrick passing the ball to the opposition by our box and costing us a goal. I’ll hold….

He played more than anyone for Fergie from his arrival up until Fergie’s retirement. He was our main central midfielder in the clubs best ever period from 06-09. He was brilliant.

Carrick near enough played in midfield by himself in Fergies last year, he was monumental and for a good 3 year stretch would have been welcomed in any central midfield in the world aside from the one in Barcelona which is also probably the best midfield ever.

So he needs to physically be there saying to Laporta ‘don’t forget my money, don’t forget my money’ everyday in order to get paid?

It is a matter of contract, and to me, has no bearing on whether or not he continues to play for Barcelona next season or not. The notion that he wants to leave, but will stay if he can’t sort out his deferred wages sounds odd.
The deferred wages were not simply planned to be paid to him at a later time, it was included in a new 4 year contract and spread over the contract's period, so if he leaves and signs another contract with another club, he loses out on his deferred wages, hence why De Jong says he will stay and not accept wage reduction, Barcelona has the choice to pay De Jong the deferred wages now, so he can accept a transfer.

With all the content available online, would you be able to contextualise your view on Carrick with some evidence?

He's the most progressive passer from deep we had until Pogba put in a performance for us, and gave away numerous goals? That's laughable. Show me 3 where he was solely responsible.

Because I watched every game he played near enough, I have seen much better midfielders for UTD and most other teams that don't receive anywhere near the plaudits that Carrick receives, it's just an opinion, you are part of the Carrick love in great for you, for me I was glad when he retired.

This video does a good job of illustrating why he was excellent and underrated.

No one raved about him because he was surrounded by world class players in every position.

If prime carrick was in our team now he’d be one of our best players, if not the best and most influential.

Good players in great sides often become overrated, because people want to appear intelligent by talking about how underrated they are. Football analysis died the day people started saying things like “Jorginho is the system.”
He was basically a one man midfield at times once Fletcher was gone and we still won the league with him starting. Anyone who thinks Carrick is one of the most overrated midfielder needs their eyes and brains checked. He’s miles ahead of the likes of Pogba who’s supposedly world class.

He would walk into the starting lineup of every team in the league right now if he was in his prime.

Believable up until they managed to get a flight back without a cancellation, especially with EasyJet
it’s all true. have you not noticed the change in narrative over the past few days? the noises from the de jong camp have subdued as they had a change of heart after jim got so drunk that he threw up everywhere and started calling him fronkie.

I watched him in real time thanks, you all love Carrick, great, for me one of the most over rated players ever to wear the short, each to their own opinion, I cannot try to convince you otherwise, trust me you will not convince me, like I say I watched the guy, live and formed my opinion, not from stats or you tube or what some pundit says.

Whilst we are on Brian McLair in midfield was also terrible (not as a striker though), anymore people I can annoy???

Spanish saying he doesn’t want to join

British saying he does

Quite obvious it’s regarding the wages is my muppet opinion.

What do we think will happen next?

All the while De Jong feels he has Xavi's support and will play regularly under Xavi, I feel like he's still going to be minded to stay. I think the Barca board might have to lean on Xavi to tell De Jong he isn't part of his plans.

I think the deferred wages issue will be sorted. Barcelona could use some of the transfer fee to pay off some.

Funny that it’s only Barcelonas side saying De Jong doesn’t want to leave Barcelona but they’ve basically got no other option than to try and sell him thanks to La Liga’s restrictions.

They’re just trying to save face. Especially when United are effectively saying he’s already pretty much agreed terms with us.

Seems like to me Barca want to get their business done before they announce a big sale.

They can pretend they are poor to selling clubs and try to wangle the best deals possible.

Well of course Xavi likes him and doesn’t want to sell him. Managers rarely want their best players to leave, and I’m sure he’d get plenty of game time if he was to stay, the issue is though, Barcelona can’t afford to keep him and that’s not something that Xavi has a say in at all.

He’ll be in Manchester once Barcelona decide how they’re going to pay him that missing salary.
