There's no PTSD yet, we're still having trauma year after year.
I wouldn't say this is true. We have mostly signed players which we have targeted in recent years.

Problem was we targeted the wrong players.

FDJ is going to break the curse of Thiago and Sneijder.

Really hope so, especially when we know for a fact that manager+player combo is correctly matched in this case.

How many big deals are getting done at the moment? Very few due to international duty, don't let that stop all the whinging though, obviously.
That’s because the transfer window doesn’t officially open until Friday 10th June - so unless anyone is out of contract then nothing can be officially announced until this date……however with many players out of contract from 1st July that is more likely to be the biggest announcement date.

I would imagine that there are lots of discussions and some very busy agents lining up deals at the moment…..let’s hope we have some announcements soon!

Haven't kept up with this for a while. Went onto Youtube and saw a Stretford Paddock video from 17 minutes ago saying "Fee Agreed" - then went on here to see what had happened.

I thought those cnuts were a little above that sort of clickbait. Guess not.

United are a hard sell right now - hate to say it but it's where we are. ten Hag is the major selling point here, without him we wouldn't have a chance. So United aren't the attraction here - it's ten Hag or the "project" - it's where we can potentially be in maybe 5 years time. He's 25 he's entering his peak years - this is when he should be at the top of his game and challenging for honours. There's only a slim chance of doing that any time soon here. So how do you sell it to him? If Barca had no financial problems there would be no chance but why is Frenkie the one to go? Purely because of our interest? This is what I'm not sure of. If it's a case of - Barca don't want you (I don't think it is) then OK - his first choice is a top Champions League team and that's not us. So the other selling point is - come somewhere you're wanted - reunited with your old manager - that will lift your spirits after the downer of leaving Barca - there's no Champions League but there's a trust and familiarity here with ten Hag - you can (maybe!) build something here - there is potential here. It's a very hard sell. Others have tried and failed to rebuild us. I hope ten Hag is the man to do it, I hope he gets the players he wants but I'm not very confident of this deal.

If we can't convince him soon, we should move on.
Tbf. If he knows that Barca wants to sell him, his 'hesitation' will be leverage to protect his salary.
I would do that knowing that my bosses are willing to let me go.
Also it's good for Barca. They can extract more from United.

If it breaks down last week of transfer we may have no one else to turn to.

Dont see the link myself.

Our position will likely mean high wages, I get that but that’s something between us and him.

His reluctance shouldn’t impact the fee positively for Barca… they want to sell apparently. If anything, I’d say it would improve our negotiating position with Barca “you want to sell, this is what we think is a fair price”

We haven't actually heard much about what we'd be offering FDJ in terms of salary have we? I would imagine he's in line for a pretty massive contract.

Probably take Pogba's wage you'd imagine.

You have to set a deadline. You can't let this keep going on and on. Even if Murtough and the club hierarchy have to slap Ten Hag down and say look you've had long enough to convince the player it's time to go down the list of alternatives mate. Otherwise we risk losing the likes of Neves to Arsenal or Barca and end the summer with nobody or scrambling around last minute for alternatives when all the good alternatives have all gone.

Get Neves instead. Brilliant footballer who's on the cusp of taking that next step in his career. Will be cheaper too.

Manchester United are making the same mistakes as previous summers; still shopping at Waitrose when we should be stopping at Tesco a mid-range supermarket. We can't attract these sorts of top players right now because they either want Champions League football clubs, or are already at Champions League clubs. The sooner we face this reality the better and happier we will be.

BUT the good news is that we can get the Neves-types who are at small clubs who would jump at the chance to play for Manchester United taking the next step in their careers. And they turn into superstars.

Good post and I agree that it’s a tough sell but I don’t believe for one minute Ten Hag is getting him to sign up to a 5 year rebuild. No chance he’s coming if we are telling him we can win trophy’s in 5 years. Ralf did say after the Liverpool game that it could take 6 years.
But he quickly changed his tune after that and was saying 2/3 transfer windows assume he was told to say that by Murtough.

Ten Hag has clearly got a shorter time frame in mind too as he was not buying into any talk of us not finishing top 4 next year.

Frenkie + Bissouma would be a dream midfield reconstruction for me. On paper it’s title-winning level.

He's already on more that (or maybe even more) at Barca isn't he? Definitely silly numbers.
I mean he isn't getting that anywhere else. They'll probably have to subsidise the extra maybe.

Barca really made a hole for themselves with these insane wages.

DDG and Ronaldo are on more than that, though, right? He'd probably be on par with DDG at a minimum and on more than Pogba was.

It's such a massive transfer both for our budget and wages that I really hope it ends up being worth all this shit, especially when he doesn't particularly seem interested in coming here and we seem to be putting everything into getting this over the line and not going for other targets to sort out the midfield.

Barca will never admit that they HAVE to sell Frenkie or it kills off their transfer fee leverage. And conversely, if there is 'hesitation' on Frenkie's part, then what United can do is to throw in a bigger transfer fee/salary to ensure that Barca will sell Frenkie.

You make everything in the grey zone to negotiate ie who is willing to walk away has the most leverage and negotiation power. Barca will know that United has to support ETH. And they also know that ETH knows Frenkie and must really want to use Frenkie as the foundation to how a ETH's United will play. They know its very specific. Thats why they think they have leverage.

i don't follow any other teams transfer rumour mill...does anyone know if other fanbases have to put up with this "prepping a bid for 10 weeks" BS?

This continual drip drip of absolutely nothing seems to be unique to us?

Nope, literally every other transfer that doesn’t involve us starts and finishes in 24 hours. Negotiation is exclusive to Manchester United.

Maybe closer to the contract we offered Pogba that he turned down? I assume that was bigger than his current deal.
