Why are they calling it deferred wages then? If that was the case, surely it would be reported as a backloaded contract?
Deferred wages =/= deferred payments

I.e not a case of “you made 12m this year, but you will only be paid 3m, the rest you’ll be paid over the course of the next 3 years”. That would have made this a lot simpler from a legal point of view, Frankie could just leave and claim his wages (if he wanted to leave).

Instead it is “you will only earn 3m this year. The difference vs. what you originally earned will be made up (earned) over the course of the next 3 years”. That’s a whole lot different! Then he doesn’t have such solid legal ground to stand on. The circumstances (an easily documentable prior contract amended due to Covid) might help him, but I could well see Barca winning through in a court case if Frenkie were to claim the 17m paid in full upon leaving the club.

In any case it’s a fairly complicated transfer and I can see why it’s taking time!

Putting myself in his shoes on matter of finances....Am I correct to understand that either:

1) He signs for United and lose on deferred wages as this is a result of negligence on his legal team side. With united I assume we won't be paying him more than 300-350K a week gross?
2) or he stays with Barcelona and take a pay cut but still makes 400K euros gross and signs a new contract (given 20m figure floating around)...and pretty much forget about the deferred wages

So given he will earn the same with either club, its a personal and professional decision...

Live the amazing life style Barcelona has to offer or enjoy that life style but play as a CB or a second choice in midfield?

Channelling my inner eminem this morning:

Guess who's back
Back again
Laporte's back
The bellend
Guess who's back
Guess who's back
Laporte's back
Dude is whack
Must smoke crack
Just wants to

Has no style
Tiki tak
Da da da...

Now it looks like we've lost frenkie
So everybody, let's buy Youri
Because we need a little, controversy
Cuz our midfield's empty without PP

I've voted Hang in there until EtH pulls the plug - of course.

But it definitely isn't happening.

He also has an option 3) Stay at Barcelona and refuse to take a pay cut.

We'll get him, and he'll be fantastic, but i hope we never have to deal with Barcelona ever again, either selling or buying. They are a ridiculous circus.
Barcelona has actually been pretty helpful all along this saga, still don't get why people are not admitting the obvious. De Jong is the one holding up the deal, if he agrees to leaving Barca today, they would come to an agreement regarding the deferred wages quite swiftly I believe, Utd might even pitch in just to get him to sign quickly.

Barcelona as much of a dick as they are for the way they are treating the guy, have been very helpful to United's interest all through this saga, in fact without them behaving the way they are, we probably have no shot at this signing at all.

I don't think we talked about this "plug" Erik needs to pull....

Does it have a little pink heart at the end?

Is it silicone treated?

What lube do we need to use?

So many questions....

I was dreamin' when I wrote this
Forgive me if it goes astray
But when I woke up this mornin'
Could've sworn it was deadline day

The sky was all oranje
There were muppets postin' everywhere
Tryin' to walk away from Frenkie
Berbaclass didn't even care

Say, say, 2022-23, window over
Oops, out of time?
So tonight I'm gonna party like Frenkie signed on time

Should be a butt of war between Xavi and ETH.

Whoever wins gets Frenkie.

Just so everyone’s aware, my sources have told me that as soon as this thread hits 1000 United will release a video on social media that starts with the number 1000. The zeroes will begin to fade until just the 1 is left, at which point it will turn into a giant lever. The lever will then morph into a middle finger, and as the camera zooms out Frenkie will be shown flipping off Laporta. The words “Stick that in your shitters, you bunch of cnuts” will splash across the screen and Xavi is shown in the background being dunked into a vat of acid.
