Well Salah just did the very same and for a worse Turkish team at that, so who knows. Not that United will allow this move to happen, of course. But some may prefer to live in turkey over the Middle East. In Saudi they might be wary their Lambo could get hit by an Iranian bomb.
Well in Turkey they also pay very well and have the added benefit of still playing in the champions league.

The idea of selling Bruno for 40m, when 1) he's our best player by an embarrassingly high margin, 2)the summer transfer fees have rocketed to insane levels and 3)having seen how few successful transfers we've made in the last 15 years

Is proper daft.

This truly is absolute nonsense. I can’t be bothered going into Bruno‘s thread from last season but I remember there being a ton of posts with posters questioning how he’s managed to gain a yard of pace suddenly in his 30’s as he was so much better at getting past players and progressing the ball. His injury time assist v Fulham skinning Bassey an example.

Absolutely nothing about his game from last season suggested a player slowing down, you’re just making up nonsense.
You are suggesting he got faster last season, are you serious?

It's absolutely mental to read people saying that we should sell our best player three weeks before the window shuts. And even more than that, a few days before the season starts! Some of you live in cloud cuckoo land I swear.
Frightening isn't it!

Oh no I think you're misunderstanding me. I don't want a '10' at all. I want an 8. For example a midfield of Santos TIelemens and Mainoo would be a lot more solid than one with Bruno as a 10. We've had a wide open midfield since Bruno has joined and everyone thinks its a personnel issue, people need to understand that Bruno at the top of his game comes with sacrifices in other areas of the pitch. Losing Bruno will mean less creativity but also mean more control. I don't think losing Bruno will be the be all end all of our team, football is not that simple. As far as I'm concerned this is the perfect time to sell Bruno, give him a new 3-4 year contract and bump up his salary and we will definitely regret it. We need to get better at selling players but also need to get better at selling at the right time.
But you're talking as though Bruno doesn't do any work going the other way as well, which just isn't correct. He busts a guy going backwards and is also a really important part of pressing from the front - another thing we'd lose if he went. I understand what you're saying but think the assumption that we'd control games better without him is incorrect. We may keep the ball more but as we discovered under lvg (and amorim, to some extent) keeping the ball is no use if you don't do anything with it
Bruno is a doer.

No, I’m suggesting the idea he got slower is ridiculous. As I say, I remember comments like the ones below from @FriedClams and @NLunited

Whilst I don’t think he ”sped up”, I think playing less games certainly made him sharper and was part of the reason he was the POTY.

But sure, you keep pretending he was the POTY whilst ”slowing down”.

Maybe I’m misremembering previous years, but has Bruno gotten faster at running? I don’t remember him leading breakaways as much as this season (v city for mbuemo, and yesterday several times) and there’s no threat of a player catching up to him.

It‘s a combination of seeing the pass and then instantly executing it without having to think about it with perfect technique.

Also improved are his dribbling and speed. Not being overplayed probably has a lot to do with it.

I stand by it too. The mbuemo goal v city he was absolutely rapid

Yeah, they also pay well, otherwise big names wouldn’t go there. Salahs club isn’t even in the champions league, though.

Even after last season we have posts like this.
Losing the by far best player wouldn't help anything.
just like it didn't help sporting you mean? How on earth did they get better when they sold the highest scoring midfielder in europe at that time? Must be impossible if we use you logic.

Have you heard the phrase correlation not causation before?

Yes and it doesn't apply here. I will change my stance the day his way of playing is conducive to winning football at a high level.

It does apply here though. You're looking for patterns because you have a preconceived opinion. It's called confirmation bias.

Also, we've won plenty of games at a 'high level' with Bruno in the team. We were 3rd in the PL last year and he's been our best player for the last five to ten years. Who do you think is more likely to be wrong about him: five to ten years worth of top level coaches and managers, or kuno on the internet?

It's proven that Bruno was willing to play as CM in midfield duo. And I'd say he's quite capable there. So if manager wants him to play in midfield 3 and just controlling matches, I think he's more than capable doing it. Bare in mind, our front three aren't blessed with creativity.

So Carrick wants him closer to the goal. It is what the manager wants, it's not what Bruno wants.

And the idea that team playing 4-2-3-1 couldn't control matches, need to watch Spain in recent WC.

The decision is not only about keeping or selling the best player and captain. Which would obviously be a big „nope“ on its own.
Based on the contractual situation it is about giving him a new contract now and planning with him as the central point of the team in the long term or making a cut that hurts in the short term but might give us more flexibility for the next years. Not only financially.
Option 3 is not giving him a contract but keeping him for the transitional season and risk losing him for free in 2 years time. He will be 34 at the start of the 28/29 season so maybe a good point in time for him to try something new before the end of his career.

This also makes zero sense for him. United is currently the more exciting project no doubt

This is fine at the begining of the window, with time to have a succession plan, but it would be fecking insane to do it 2 days before the start of our season. He has us over a barrel to be fair, but what can you do. He gave us 30 G+A last season and has been the main catalyst for any success we've had.

He's our most creative player by huge margin. Currently we have no option to replace him in our team. We would need to get a high end creative forward or another advanced midfielder before offloading him and we don't have the funds this summer.

Next summer, he will be 33. I'd say we will still easily fetch 40-50m if he carries with his form and I can't see why not. Then we can consider selling him, having a plan to replace him also with the funds to do so. This year is absolutely ridiculous to let him go.

If he leaves on a free in 2 years time I have no issues, we paid 47m for him, and at that point we'll have had 8 years excellent service from him. He owes us nothing, and should be able to do what he wants at end of contract with our best wishes

Here here. He’s been exactly what you want from any signing. At 47mill he’s been an absolute bargain. For the time he’s spent and enduring turmoil after turmoil whilst remaining committed. I hope he does walk away in two years. He will deserve so. Everything considered he’s high on the list of service givers and absolute legends.

People wanting us to sell him are the Cristiano camp.
Not even you can even check my post history. Sometimes improving your ability to sell means selling at the right time. I don't mind keeping him another year I just hope we don't give him a new 3-4 year contract with a pay increase because then we'll be stuck with him till the end of his contract.

To get money for him next summer we need to give him a new contract and a pretty big one probably.
And I agree that he is our most creative and productive player by quite some margin.
That said to a certain extent this might be because he is the focal point and the player with more or less unlimited freedom.
Maybe players like Cunha, Amad, Mainoo etc would thrive more in a more disciplined set-up with clear role defintions.

But I agree with everyone that now it is too late for such a huge decision and from a personal fan point of view I am happy to See Bruno more years in a United shirt.

There’s no need to get money for Bruno, there is no need to sign in him to a new contract, as @golden_blunder said in this thread, there’s no need to do anything.
He’s a brilliant player, and our entire team is built around him, for a good reason.

Whatever happens in two years we don’t know, a yearly extension like back in the day with Scholes, Giggs and Neville could be an option, if he will be up for it.
If he wants a last mega contract somewhere else, then fair enough, but not this season.

Think Gibbs-White and Palmer are both potential replacements to look at for next summer, although the latter will have a very high price tag

Definitely shouldn't sell, definitely shouldn't extend.

Bruno was constantly out of position when in a 2, he was very high and we had a big hole in midfield. He's far from positionally disciplined.

If I were him I will kick up a fuss and engineer a move,we have wasted his prime ,he ks not going to win any major trophy with us.He should at least go and make alot of money,we are not a serious club.
Well aren't you just a little ray of sunshine.

The club have already stated they won't entertain Bruno leaving, so why is this thread still open?
