Galatasaray to launch £43m Bruno Fernandes bid and offer massive wage increase

Even after last season we have posts like this.
Losing the by far best player wouldn't help anything.
Imo his last 2 seasons have been his best, and he has been fantastic, but I honestly do not see us progressing much until we move to a 3 man midfield. I think it has been a barrier for us.

Start a bidding war with the Saudi teams, I'm in. We've missed out completely on all that so far.

When did our PL rivals sell their best player to the Saudis? Right after they had their (arguably) best season, no less?

How do you know no 'serious' team has ever been in for him? He's been one of our best players for years now, and was one of the best in the world last year. Are you seriously telling me that if they thought he was gettable for reasonable money, none of them would try?!
It was widely reported that Bruno had a release clause for clubs outside the premier league for 65 million euros, which in todays market is peanuts. So he was gettable for peanuts.

The reason why no top teams want Bruno is simple, football has moved on from the traditional 10, we're the only top team that hasn't.

I really really want Bruno to hold up a premier league trophy, he’s earned it the most out of our players who never won one.

That said what is the contingency planning regarding Bruno?

Considering we cant fill the obvious holes in the squad, theres no way we have contingency plans for anyone as essential as Bruno.

Any proper run club would be lining up Brunos successor/replacement now, not next summer or the year after when his contract is running down.

Just because there was a release clause doesn’t mean the move was favorable from the player’s point of view.
I’m sure that clubs were well aware that Bruno is keen on staying at United.

Bayern, Man City and Real Madrid play with pretty traditional number 10’s to name a few.

Aside from Real though, their 10s drop a lot more, they don't play it like Bruno.

If you think Bruno is rejecting Bayern and Madrid to stay at United I have a bridge to sell you.

I agree, but last season I felt he was starting to slow down a little, and I expect it to stand out more this season (I could be wrong). I highly doubt we would sell this summer, but next summer I expect us to be prepared to play without him more.

Well Madrid have Bellingham, Bayern have Olise / Musiala.
But I’m sure City would rather have had Bruno post KDB than Foden or Marmoush.
As poor as United have been in the last 13 years, there’s still only just a couple of clubs on the planet that would be considered a career enhancing move for a United player.

Do City buy players that old? If they do it is not many.

In a season he posted the assist record and was the best player in the league?

oh, his last 2 seasons were his best, and I do not mean slow down in terms of output, I mean I think he was physically slowing down. He might just be exhausted, he might just be getting older.

And then he went on to be player of the season.. so you clearly called that one wrong eh

It's also the case that others are well stocked in these areas, or at least with more important positions to spend 65 million on.

He also has limitations in terms of his ability in tight spaces (though much improved last season) and ball carrying/dribbling.

This limitation is probably why he's struggled (along with the team) in the the CL knockout he's played with us, and the two Europa league finals.

It's a recurring deficit in our recruitment, along with other flaws.

Bruno is an example of recurring defects in our recruitment? If that’s what you are saying, you cannot be doing so with a straight face.

I think a lot of the time, folks talking Bruno down have a stylistic preference for a Wirtz type. A tidy technician that's good in tight spaces, can dribble a bit and plays mostly high percentage passes, because they're easier on the eye. Regardless of how much less effective they are.

How do? He physically has started to slow down a little. I think it will become more notable this season. He will need to rest more often.

Someone needs to open a window in this thread, apparently there's been an undetected carbon monoxide leak. There are some hot takes in here, to say the least.

Another year, another Bruno dumpster fire of a thread. It's tradition at this point. I just wonder who this season's Jeppers, zaafi or NZT-something is going to be.

I am ambivalent on this. On the one hand Carrick will need him as his reliable skipper and best player. On the other hand despite all the great things Bruno has done I feel we need to move on and rebuild to become a team with a more fluid style.
Nobody with half a brain cell will argue the importance of Bruno but I think his performance last season is somewhat slightly overrated because of his record.

If we were earlier in the window I would say lets take the offer and get in a top midfield engine and 2-3 more players but now it seems a bit late for such a massive decision.

We can't even buy a fecking decent left back, or find a world class midfielder. Even if we sold Bruno and "moved on" to rebuild the team, we'd not replece him with anyone remotely close to being as good, because we're run by penny pinching cnuts. He's literally the only reason we have any chance of finishing in the top 4

You'd take the 40 million offer? That seems absurdly low for our best player, coming off his best season.

No offers though, I do not think he fits how most top teams play aside from maybe Real.
He is not the same player when everything is not set up to go through him as the main man (Portugal). His ceiling as the main man is at most a European place finish and cup runs here and there.

I think we all know who Portugal's main issue was and it wasn't Bruno. The second sentence is just, like, your opinion man.

Oh no I think you're misunderstanding me. I don't want a '10' at all. I want an 8. For example a midfield of Santos TIelemens and Mainoo would be a lot more solid than one with Bruno as a 10. We've had a wide open midfield since Bruno has joined and everyone thinks its a personnel issue, people need to understand that Bruno at the top of his game comes with sacrifices in other areas of the pitch. Losing Bruno will mean less creativity but also mean more control. I don't think losing Bruno will be the be all end all of our team, football is not that simple. As far as I'm concerned this is the perfect time to sell Bruno, give him a new 3-4 year contract and bump up his salary and we will definitely regret it. We need to get better at selling players but also need to get better at selling at the right time.

This truly is absolute nonsense. I can’t be bothered going into Bruno‘s thread from last season but I remember there being a ton of posts with posters questioning how he’s managed to gain a yard of pace suddenly in his 30’s as he was so much better at getting past players and progressing the ball. His injury time assist v Fulham skinning Bassey an example.

Absolutely nothing about his game from last season suggested a player slowing down, you’re just making up nonsense.

Would appreciate a Swiss Ramble type of analysis of United's finances.

Are we really still heavily paying installments for years of financial negligence repaying players that have in the meantime maybe already left the club and have 730 mil of debt hanging above the club. Or are we just run by financial leeches that are sucking any financial flow they can outside the club.

From what I gathered the club has to constantly manage actual cash liquidity by tapping into a £300 million revolving credit facility just to cover the physical cash installment deadlines due to other clubs and over £1 billion has left the club through debt interest, refinancing costs, and owner dividends since the 2005 takeover.

Making the Glazers unique among top Premier League owners for taking money out rather than putting capital in.

So unfortunately it seems it is a mix of both: structural financial draining by the ownership combined with severe negligence in recruitment strategy and inflated wage bills over successive regimes.

So Glazers out seems the way forward.

It's absolutely mental to read people saying that we should sell our best player three weeks before the window shuts. And even more than that, a few days before the season starts! Some of you live in cloud cuckoo land I swear.

I am a believer that to progress this team from a footballing perspective, Bruno needs to move on, not because he's not a valuable player, but because we are too reliant on him and we need others to step up, which they won't do whilst he is still here leading our team. His contribution last season is not in doubt, I do still feel he gives the ball away a little too often in situations where we are vulnerable as a result, but generally, he is so much the focal point that everything runs through him and we don't develop as a team in a way that will serve us better against better organised top teams. I would keep him for this season, I think Thielemans next to him could mean a little more spreading of creative responsibility, but after that I think I'd look to cash in and move Amad to his spot to see if he can't develop into a good number 8/10.
Caf logic. Sell your best player so that a worse player then becomes your best player.

PSG became better without Mbappe and Messi, we became better without Van Nistelrooy in 2006, Bayern became better with 20 goals Mandzukic rather than 40 goals Gomez. It's not ridiculous that an improvement in tactics can trump individual quality.

Not advocating Bruno's sale but I do fear that Bruno will have a massive drop off this season given how much he overperformed last season. A problem is that there are more glaring issues in our squad that I would hope we fill (backup ST, LB, RB, CM) before we can drop our best player since Fergie. In the examples given above there were already replacements ready to take over for the players sold (Dembele for Mbappe, Saha for Ruud) but I don't see anyone in our squad that can come in and make us look better without Bruno.

Why would Bruno go to Turkey after rejecting the mega money from Saudi last season?
Well Salah just did the very same and for a worse Turkish team at that, so who knows. Not that United will allow this move to happen, of course. But some may prefer to live in turkey over the Middle East. In Saudi they might be wary their Lambo could get hit by an Iranian bomb.

While I agree with all your points, I would also add that the main issue would be his symbolic value far outweighs his market value.

Easy to sanction a sale at 100m+, much less so at 40-50-60m.

Weird post after a season where he finished third as the main man

Where is the contradiction in those two things? That's been our ceiling/limit in his time here with the style of play built around him.

I may have misread or misassumed that European places indicated EL.

It's still a silly notion, Bruno is not the reason we didn't go further
