Add an add an s' to the end of Neville in the title. He can go off in the sunset with Ole, drink wine and laugh about who was the greatest fraud of a manager.
5 top players! You could see Souness and the other commentators didn't know how to respond to such idiocy. Yeah blame the board but come on Ole is now a big part of the problem.

Shaw doesn't have a body capable of playing weekly Prem football, that's beyond obvious right now, the guy is more injury prone than Smalling and Jones put together.

Martial is quality about 1 game in every 3.

Lindelof was upstaged by Tuanzebe.

Pogba wants to leave

And then the 6th player in that list is Lingard, less said about his impact on our football the better.
Smalling isn't injury prone. How often does this need pointing out!

I would say appointing Moyes was a bad choice, he is nothing manager. LVG though is ok to build a good foundation, but after we sack him, we should appoint our next manager with possession style of football to carry on what LVG has been doing. Instead we go with Mourinho, with completely different approach, rebuilding all over again. Then after Mourinho we appoint Ole, who isn't the right choice at all.
THIS in a nutshell. Total and utter lack of footballing strategy and leadership. The owners and board dont know how to run a football club.

Neville is so so deluded I don’t even listen to him anymore.

when 3 ex scousers in carragher, redknapp and souness are making more valid and truthful points every week than him about our current situation and how to fix it then you know Nevilles completely in the wrong.
He has an agenda while the others are objective. That's the unfortunate difference.

I can understand why so many are a little annoyed about Neville not saying Ole is out of his depth. Others have also said he never really does that. But I guess he's not alone in this, as even Keane said Ole needs time.

But why are people not talking about his other point in regards to Ed and the board? He asked a very valid question, who is telling the managers, the like of Jose, who they can and cannot sign? Who is in charge of this at the club?

Lvg has said United is not a football club. Jose has said he never got backed. Who is calling the shots at United?
Ole was one of the most congenial teammates ever. So you wouldn't expect anyone who played alongside him to criticize him. Even Keane has a soft spot for Solskjær.

Gary Neville, Ole's buddy. Good on him to not heap more pressure.

Gary Neville as a pundit. Moron. From A to Z, any single person watching United right now has the same question, what is our philosophy / approach / style whatever you want to call it when it comes to creating scoring chances. There is not an iota to say, back this manager because you can see what he is trying to build. You can see what he is trying to do in game, you can see how his mind is working tactically but, the quality right now is letting him down.

Gary Neville, the United fan. Such a disservice. Ole seems to have deluded himself and maybe even the board. With statements of positivity after a bunch of these hopeless games. Maybe saying to himself, see there are people that can see what I am trying to do on the field, like Gary, he knows. Ole needs to be shaken to his core to realize that there is he is implementing for the team as an attacking unit, there is literally nothing to take a positive and he needs to really really rethink his approach on how they are training and most certainly formations based on the personnel he has. If he actually sees the likes of Gary Neville pointing these obvious points out, then maybe he might fall out of whatever delusion he has himself in.

It's not just about signing young British talent. That's just how it's turned out so far. It's about signing young and hungry players who want to be here. Just so happens that so far they have been British. But don't think for a second that if Dybala wanted to be here we wouldn't have gone for him stronger. I personally like Ole's vision. Will he be the man to lead us long term? Not sure. The results aren't in his favour. Problem is I don't know if any manager could have gotten more out of these players. BUt if we do get a new manager, I would like someone with the same ideas. Mind you, I would like to see Ole change up the formation because obviously the 4-2-3-1 isn't working. Perhaps it would if Pogba was in the #10. But if we insist on using two midfielders then I would like to see us go back to basics and play a 4-4-2 against most teams.

The problem for Ole is that his players have compounded this tough start by missing penalties and some easy chances. The team could easily be 4 points better off than it is and that would allow him some breathing room.

However at the moment things look dire and its panic stations. I just hope the team can string some positive results together over the next few weeks.

We can't find players at that price because the Neymar transfer sent values into hyperspace. Those 3 luckily for Scouserpool happened just before that. They then got a double whammy with the Coutinho money! We on the other hand cocked up on coaches, the 1st being letting Moyes got about two months too early. We Woudl have got Klopp. Fans & Woody
I used that as an example. City haven’t had to pay over £75m for a player. Chelsea haven’t, Spurs, Arsenal. What I’m saying is there are certainly players around we can obtain but we choose to ignore. It’s bad recruitment, negotiation, scouting and understanding on what our squad actually needs. That’s put the blame on everyone from board, scouts and management.

How? The reason Ole still has so much support is because of his transfer dealings. Every single player he’s signed looks great. That’s a massive step in the right direction.
Ole has to be given the time and opportunity to create his own squad by moving the dead wood on, bringing through the youngsters and buying the players he wants; hes inherited a squad of players cobbled together by 3 different managers and still has three players from SAFs last squad, Jones, Young and Smalling who all joined United 2010/11. Only when Ole has built his own squad playing the way he wants can he be properly judged.

This is decent and courageous by Neville, saying the board have cocked it up. That's a start. Let's not bother with the knee jerk blame the manager. Didn't work with the previous three managers. Can you get this? No manager will do any better until you change the structure of the club. What's hard to understand about that? We don't win the league with that clown Woody as CEO. He thinks he is bigger than the manager. He is ego tripping and stinking the place up. Now its true that he made a stupid choice in Ole, but that's his stupid choice, and its not OGS's fault for taking the dream job. He will be prematurely old as a result though. So sure pick a scapegoat, but pick it higher up. The current manager is not up to it, but he is irrelevant. Glazers out.

Maguire who the club scouts were all already dead set on signing as the next centreback. What credit can Ole take there? None because it would have happened with any manager who agreed we needed a CB.

AWB who the scouts were already dead set on as the specialist right back we've desperately needed for 5 years or more. Same as Maguire, any manager who agreed we needed a RB would have gone for AWB.

James who was a good punt for the money, but we don't even know how much of an input Ole had on him other than being asked: here's a good kid for a low fee, do you want him?

Uh...a top 10, 20, 30 manager in the world can get that squad to beat Newcastle...end of story. Challenging for a league under the current club structure is a fanciful notion. But these are two different things. The Norwegian league is basically equivalent to League 1. So we have a League 1 manager managing a supposed top 5 club in the world (on reputation)...which yes is down to this bankers board.

The sentimentalists just need to separate the OGS the player from the manager. He's been doing this for 10 years and has picked a terrible staff and just become a nice shield for Woodward and this 'process' drivel. In fact, the club needs to completely move on from the SAF era and get people in who have an unsurpassed desire to compete and win who don't resort to 'We're Man United' and the golden era. And the only people with the balls to do that would be new owners.

This “what about the football” point is one of the most ill-informed I keep seeing on this forum day in day out

According to you lot, Moyes, LvG, Jose and Ole all apparently set our team up to play boring, tumescent, slow-paced football.

When. Will. You. Realise? The Players. Are. Absolute. Garbage!

Mata is finished in the major European leagues and needs to head to the calmer climates of the MLS or China

Pereira is a Championship standard player.

Rashford is never in a million zillion years a Premier League standard CF. Arguably he may be a mediocre winger, he’s definitely an extremely bad CF

Fred wouldn’t get into a single other PL side

Lingard, a man without a goal or assist in the PL this calendar year is our best #10

The back five plus McTominay are absolutely fine. The front four/five, without Pogba and Martial, would struggle to make an impact in the Championship. Fact.
You don't need the best players to play a certain style of football. You just probably won't get results. Eddie Howe is a good example. I could use Klopp in his first season as an example. You don't need talented players to get the side to do a coordinated press for example.

And even if you ignore that, we're not just using this season as evidence. He had Pogba, Lukaku, and Martial in the latter part of last season and it was still crap. No idea how you can ignore that.

Gary is better off just avoiding this discussion. The way he wiggle around anything regarding Ole while pretending he is answering questions is pathetic. Ole is out of his league more than any player bar Fred. And he want to lay all blame on Ed who deserve some blame. But he is not coaching the team or doing the tactics. The team looked poorly coached and thats on the manager.

The reason it didn't work under the three previous managers is because they were also really shite in their own respective ways.

The club is fairly awful structurally right now with no solid direction but I'd wager any half-decent manager could get this side performing at a level that's better than 17 points in our last 17 games.

One or two yes but 5 years ago a few of those would have been mid 20s;not sure even then they were the dog's bollocks of English football when you consider the likes of Kane,Alli,Sterling etc who would have just been breaking out.

Fergie did not really think about Cantona before he was offered to him over the phone. No credit there of course. And Ronaldo? Only bought him because his players told him so after a friendly.

Don' t be desperate to criticize Ole in every single way possible.

After the famous win in PSG, our forms were LLWLLWLLLDDL ( 2 wins out of 12!)

Exclude pre-season matches, which we seem to do quite okay, and we thought things would finally be alright in the coming season...

Then the season begins... WDLDWWLWDDL (4 wins out of 11)

Are we going to finish top 6? I doubt. Next match after we are beaten by Liverpool, we will become even more panic....

False. Cantona was not offered to SAF on the phone. Leeds asked to buy Irwin from us, we declined and then SAF told Edward to ask for Cantona.

Only bought him because his players told him so? SAF was there too, do you think if our player didn't tell him he wouldn't recognize Ronaldo's talent?

I was being sarcastic mate. Point is that Ole has to get credited with the signings that are made while he is the manager, does not work both ways.

How much of a mug does this guy look when he kept banging on about supposed "viruses" at the club like lukaku and Sanchez and yet morale and performances is still massively miserable.

The old boys network linked with United that have had their say in the media all talk rubbish.

I can understand the reluctance to see Ole gutted. Imagine the feeling around here the day he leaves, it will be weird as hell. I supported the dismissal of Moyes, but not Van Gaal and not Mourhino. They both should be been supported and treated with more respect. And who replaces Ole? Will that solve anything? We still have to look at the higher ups.

Are you telling me that after the PSG Game, you weren't going "GIVE HIM THE JOB"?

IF you are saying that, you're a liar. Everyone wanted him made permanent at that point in time.
That’s not true

This guy is the absolute worst commentator. He absolutely goes into games with an agenda in mind and ignores what's actually happening in front of him. I've just watched Lindelof play a De Bryune-esque pass through from the backline right onto rashford's boot between two defenders with a flat pass through the air and he makes absolutely no mention of it. Literally not a squeak, if that was a city defender he'd be raving about it for 2minutes solid.

Likewise, Lingard has just tried to block the ball with a sliding tackle to the floor, and his foot is off the ground as he tries to block the ball. He doesn't make any contact with the man and is about a yard away from the ball or player, with absolutely no danger to the defender and no force behind the lunge and Neville is saying what a stupid "tackle" it is and he's lucky not to get yellow carded. Despite the fact that he was so far away that the defender didn't even need to avoid it, just standing still and Jesse didn't come close. How the hell you can be penalised for a tackle in which you don't make any contact with the ball or player, I'm actually starting to hate the sound of his voice because he's just coming across as a dim-witted buffoon.

One, weird to bump this thread when there are other more recent threads discussing Neville and two, Lingard’s foot is really and he almost studs a player. It was a silly lunge.

Complete moron. Hot takes from today:

- DDG was weak in his punch so the goal was fine (despite definitely being a foul)
- DDG didn’t kick off with the officials about it, therefore the goal was fine

Failed to note that De Gea did in fact go to the refs after the whistle went at half time, and that De Gea has never been the type to get irate after a decision.

Neville said repeatedly that he thought it should have been disallowed and was surprised it wasn't.

He did also say it was weak from De Gea, which it was.

So Neville came into the game wanting to criticise Lingard and give no praise to Lindelof? Is that what you're suggesting here?

I would have done the same. They were at best mediocre and at worst our weakest links.
