Gary Neville - Pundit

Childish but I actually kind of agree with them.

Why is it ok for Neville to be completely unprofessional as a paid pundit and make ridiculous statements that slander clubs or individuals? But it's not ok when for someone to defend themselves from it?

As long as he thinks it's ok to behave like a child/moron there shouldn't be an issue with people treating him like one.
Not sure what you think Neville did that you think was childish or moronic, he does too many of those things so you will have to be more specific :) but to be fair - it seems clear that Forest banned Gary not for anything he said about Forest but because Forest's petulant owner got pissed about what Gary said about him personally. And in that instance, I would argue Gary was right - walking onto the pitch and publicly yelling at your head coach, is indeed scandalous and unacceptable behavior for a club owner. Ironically, what got Gary banned, was one time Gary was probably correct :)

Makes me laugh when people criticise Neville for being negative about United when that's what the majority of posters on here are exactly that ! The irony is delicious

I sort of see both points, what did Neville say about Forrest?

The guy grates you all of them do, media work are they that skint from there playing days..
Wait till next year or summer transfers before they put a tog on there shit.
Unless they buy English players

The footage shows the owner walking onto the pitch and ranting to Nuno about something Nuno barely even seems bothered by. It looked like something of nothing really.

Neville decided (without any insight or context or even bothering to ask anyone), to assume it was the owner publicly telling Nuno off and yelling in his face, and not only that, took it upon himself to tell everyone Nuno should leave the club immediately due to the owner's behaviour.

He has no idea what was actually said or what relationship the owner has with Nuno. It was an incredibly thick and irresponsible thing to come out and say. It's a drunk old man in the pub thing to say, not a professional pundit thing to say.

Generally in life if you run your mouth like a f*cking obnoxious imbecile often enough, you eventually come across someone who will punch you in it.

Also, not having to listen to Neville on commentary is frankly a justified reason in itself to ban him

Hmm not sure about that. I think if you know the history of Marinakis and look at the circumstances of that match it is very clear he blew a gasket and went onto the pitch to remonstrate with Nuno. Let’s remember this guy orchestrated the whole Clattenburg consultant thing. Let’s remember this is also a guy who was banned for spitting at match officials. He also stormed onto the pitch to yell at referees after a game against Liverpool last season.

I know Nuno has defended him in the end and said it was nothing but I definitely would not be impressed if I ever saw the Glazers or Radcliffe storming onto the pitch after a game to have a whinge at our manager: which is blatantly what happened…

There’s a reason we’ve never seen that type of thing happen in the PL.

I think you’re letting your feeling towards Neville cloud this. Neville saying Nuno etc should quit might be seen as dramatic but there are many coaches/managers who wouldn’t stand for that sort of interference/behaviour from an owner.
As annoying as Neville is, we’re talking about Marinakis here. This is not the guy whose actions should ever be justified. He’s an actual piece of shit, a genuine garbage human being.

The whole media landscape is leveraged off giving opinions (especially of the extreme variety) from very little context or asking anyone.

Singling out Neville for this seems a little sour just because he happens to be on our screens, usually presenting, more than the rest of the ‘92 crowd.

Marinakis is getting revenue via Sky as a result of this dynamic. He needs to remember that

It's not singling out Neville. Well it is but because he's just not a very professional pundit. Him and Carragher (and particularly Neville) are absolutely terrible for this. They jump to sensationalist conclusions and make unprofessional and often just plain stupid comments about teams and individuals.

Neville just waffles utter shite and quite regularly winds people up, which would be fine if there was ever any substance or sense to his ridiculous ranting, but their isn't. He just says stupid sh*T because he HAS to have a sensationalist opinion on absolutely everything.

It's talksport phone in level punditry. If you want to chat shit about people instead of doing your job properly then this is the sort of thing that can happen.

And really Carragher is only very marginally better (mainly because he mouths off a bit less). "Leave the football before it leaves you" type comments are ironic from someone who the football never really found in the first place (unless it was bouncing off his backside and into his own goal)

Sky could do so much better than a waffling hypocrite and a guy who responds to banter from fans by spitting at children.

No other club will follow this. It's an embarrassment and Forest are a joke. United didn't even ban Carragher after the spitting incident. It's absolutely childish behaviour from Forest who have previous history with the childish stuff like this when they complained about the ref on social media last year. Football is becoming worse with this us against the world shit

I'm assuming people who blame Forrest for banning that cnut didn't see how much drama he created about that one off incident that day. In his usual manner, he goes all imln acting outraged and making definite claims about what happened between manager and owner, none of which were true, as usual.

Imagine a pundit on TV saying the United manager should hand in his resignation (during our best season in a while) based on a wrong premise about a less than 1 minute clip.

Neville is a loud mouth shit stirrer, who loves the sound of his own voice too much, and who's been given the platform to constantly spill his crap weekly on TV.

This. I can't believe that people can't understand it.
Now i understand why pundits think that they are above everybody else in football. Because of fans who think that being a pundit gives you license to talk whatever you want without consequences.

I do hope that other clubs will learn something from Forest.

I think Sky should drop their coverage of the game in protest. It is Forest so air a documentary about Leicester winning the PL title instead.

The difference is a journalist isn't paying clubs to attend press conferences. Sky Sports are paying a fortune to broadcast games.
They are still allowed to broadcast the game, no one is stopping them, and I think the game can go ahead despite Neville's absence in the gantry. We'll all cope just fine.

He told Nuno to quit there and then. Gary's half-baked hot takes have finally caught up with him tbh. I agree it's an overreaction from Forest but Neville needs to wind it in with the hysterical bluster with which he insists on lacing every discussion.

Absolutely this. Neville has gone too far down the road of salacious sound bytes because he knows what sells and he is ultimately a great salesman. That's fine if that's his shtick, but eventually someone will tell him where to go.

In fairness Neville really screwed this up, and told a club owner to walk away from his club based on very little info. I actually back Forrest here.

How do you know that none of it was true? Calling Neville a cnut for that is pretty pathetic. Banning commentators just because you didn't like what they said is absolutely small time and bordering on lunacy from a football club.

If like you & others claim that Neville talks rubbish all the time then the club needs to argue with facts and also it should be up to the viewers & Sky to decide if they believe him or not. Nottingham forest have no right to be the judge & the jury in this.

W
Love Forest because of this. Unlike us, they showed balls here.
We allow this prick to shit on us and as reward we give him free access to club.
Would you like a hug?

Banning a former player from the ground because they've criticise the club in its current state. Amazing.

Come to think of it I don’t think I’ve heard a single former player say positive things about UTD recently.

BAN THEM ALL!!!!

Sending you hugs and kisses x

Isn't that what he is paid for? Generating clicks and forum conversations. Being dramatic and sensational seems to be part of job description for pundits. I am more surprised by players, managers, and owners who overreact to pundits than pundits being intentionally scandalous

Feels comfortable for once being back in Gary's corner. Feck Forest and feck Marinakis too.

If you decide to make your living by winding people up then you can't complain when you eventually wind someone up more than they're willing to take.

True. Did Gary complain, though? :)

I see here that many people don't understand what pundits should do. Their job is to give their subjective or objective opinion about football.
Better pundits try to be objective because they have good understanding of football and clowns like Neville tend to be subjective because their knowledge isn't great.
If you go in subjective route that doesn't mean that you can talk shit about clubs and players and make up stories.

Forest didn't ban Sky. They banned biggest Sky's clown. Sky is free to send another pundit instead of him.

Gary has always indulged in hypocrisy as a pundit. How can he seriously challenge clubs on ticket prices when his employer has constantly fleeced UK subscribers to watch live matches? He doesn’t seem to have anyone around him who is willing to point out the blatant hypocrisy. He doesn’t appear the ‘sharpest tool in the box off the pitch’.

He should be worried that Marinakis sues him for libel. I doubt he would have said and tweeted that had it been a different owner.
