Gary Neville - Pundit

Agree 100% , Crazy to see so many delude posters more upset with Neville pointing out home truths than the shit show the manager/team serve up most weeks.

End of the day neville likes to appear none biased but he does love the club as much as any of us.

Tonight he was just pissed off and rightly so.

Agreed. That even Neville gets accused of bias against united shows no commentator is enough for some fans.
Probably was in shock that there was 4 minutes left and we still had 3 CBs on the pitch, 2 subs available and Amorim did nothing to even try and win the game.
Well we kept their xg very low after the game. /s

He was absolutely fuming tonight. Did his usual appear to be non biased schtick with the red card but after that wow. I was actually surprised how critical he was being at points. Went for Shaw at one stage and then Dalot.

Neville was right about the lack of intensity, it was shocking at home against 10 men. Need to be throwing everyone up front and playing it as quick as possible side to side. Just ambling about.

Hes better when he's a bit more collected as a pundit

He's a horrible commentator especially for United games

Obviously he has to keep a little bit calm but he was bang on the money about amorims cowardice.
Cowards get nowhere in football.
I like Tottenham’s motto in that regard:
Amorims would be “to dare I would never do”

He was bang on about shaw and Yoro on the ball. They offered nothing going forward. Dalot/Mazraoui would have been better at RCB for the second half. Malacia could have come on for Dorgu?

To be fair to him the bench is dire. But maybe there is a chance for a young player or two. No point in a bench with 4 defenders.
Arsenal/city have thrown young players in

He was bang on last night and I'm glad he called out Amorims cowardly tactics.

If/when he eventually gets sacked he can have no complaints after shit like that.

He was right about the tactics, but once again he would be the first to moan if our players were slapping each other and saying how they let the club down. The slap may have been weak, but you shouldn’t be putting your hands on anybody on the football pitch.

The guy just grates you now, no matter what Utd do hes never happy.
Last night everyone could see how poor they were. Everton scored and they new sit deep this lot of shit houses won't score havent got it in them. If there was a game we missed Maguire and Cunha this was it... I turn the commentary off when hes on it..

Is there a way we can get a petition to Sky Sports or something to have him removed from UTD matches? he just absolutely makes every TV match unbearable regardless of the performance, honestly he depresses me more than the match itstelf, please for my sanity can somebody organise a petition to get rid of him.

Why don’t you start it?

He gets an unbelievable amount of stick on here, when in all honesty he’s just extremely passionate about United doing well.

I mean he loves United more than any die hard red on here so I don’t see anything wrong with him being deeply critical, we are after all a complete shitshow.

Can you imaging commenting on a game involving United and trying to be professional and unbiased?

Do you actually believe that? Ferdinand is very passionate and loves the club. Neville just slates us all the time whilst praising Liverpool and city a lot.

I mean City and Liverpool have been the best teams in the country for 7/8 years by far he'd look like a right tit if he didn't
He’s one of them anyway. No the point is he makes it very obvious that he’s trying to be unbiased. Especially when he’s commentating our games. Constant criticising and always being upset when the opposition gets a dodgy decision etc.

Rio slates us plenty too on various platforms, and again, he has every right to, as he gave unbelievable service to the club, same as Neville, Butt, Scholes, and let’s not forget Keane, who never stops sticking the boot into the club and its underperforming players.

It’s because they care deeply how poor we’ve become, when we were once the pinnacle of English football. It would be madness if they didn’t praise Liverpool or City when they are 2 teams who have outperformed us for years.

I love the fact that they speak out against the owners and, the shit formations, the lacklustre performances etc.

Rio doesn't slate us plenty. That said, as I've mentioned, I don't think Neville is being intentionally malevolent at all, he's just a passionate pessimist.

Neville is a busy man. He’d be doing us and himself a favour by dropping commentating all together

Neville does nothing but moan, it does not matter whether we are wining, losing, playing brilliantly or terrible, he just moans about Utd from before kick off until the program goes off, and it is more often than not unvaried, he picks up one thing or maybe two if you are lucky then rinse and repeat ad-infinitum for 90 minutes, like the Dalot substitute (without saying who he would have actually brought on) or Shaw not pushing up, Shaw pushing should have been a foul and it should not have been a goal, 45 minutes of Neville saying the exact same thing time and time again, just move on or shut the eff up you depressing w'nker... he should be forced to listen to his own commentary.... I would even rather have Michael Owen and he is dull enough to send a hyperactive 3 year old to sleep.

Hasn't happened with any regularity for a long time to be fair.

Gary should not be on our matches. Why do I think that?

Not because he's no good - he's a fantastic pundit.

Certainly not because of his Left-wing outlook - I am further left than he is, he backed the Cameron and Osbourne remain campaign and now plays the same tune as Major and Heseltine.

But he is clearly too emotionally invested in our fortunes and, like the top pro he was and is, wants to appear neutral - but overdoes it. Weirdly, fans of Don Goodman's old clubs all think Don has it in for them too! Same thing I think.

he is by far the best pundit around today

Today yes because he does not commentate on TnT sports, would have preferred to be at the match but it was so refreshing listening to McCoist instead of Neville, somebody who actually comments on the game moment to moment, who doesn't fixate on moaning constantly

I like Nev and I think his comments on United are born out of frustration as he desperately wants us to do well.

However, he said on the overlap the other day that he needs to watch what he says on players, mentioning David Luiz as an example, and then proceeded to say that Luke Shaw was annoying him and was Pathetic during the Everton game. Which would be fine if it was an isolated comment but It was every time he touched the ball for about 25 minutes.

He does get fixated on something and him trying to be unbiased has resulted in him almost becoming Anti United sometimes. For Instance if it was a United player that got sent off for Slapping there own player I can guarantee he'd of been irate about how stupid it was.

Anyone seen the American coverage of the champions league? Carragher, Micha Richard and Henry - christ that's a hard watch. Just trash behaviour, thinking they're funny, loud outrageous laughing at nothing. Appalling. I can't follow that at all. Who on earth enjoys that? Eg, Carra will say something like 'Oh Henry enjoy that Tottenham goal' , cue mass hysteria laughing that goes on and on, with Richards almost rolling around like he just heard a Jerry Seinfeld joke. And i am like 'eh ? What's so funny?'

Then you get performative reaction to goals. Then the whole trashy interviews that are just awkward, with any little comment made by player met with mass hysterical laughing, eg Micha Richards will ask a player who has just gone through 90 minutes of hard football who his favourite presenter is. When he says the female presenter, cue mass hysterial laughter, will everyone rolling around in creases. I am like 'eh?'

Nevilel for me still retains some old fashioned punditry, with a throw back to Andy Gray. He will give opinions that you trust and make you nod your head.

I still prefer old fashioned tactical opinions, tell me what i am missing, and show us opinions. Growing up i used to love Andy Gray - his tactical mous would always give me new knowledge. i don't think Neville is on his level, but it's the closest we have.

Carragher these days sometimes goes way over the top, reactionary, chasing views with sensationalism opinions. I don't like that. Spurs manager 10 games in and he is bashing him was way over the top. Coming out with nonsense like Casemiro should leave (or whatever he was saying), or bashing the Chelsea keeper in such an extreme manner. Way too sensationalist, and i don't like that.

There are people who like that kind of style, probably the same people who use 'banter' a lot in sentences.

by today, I meant currently. McCoist used to be good but has become a clown lately

I dont understand the "wants to appear neutral" point. He isnt in any way hiding his allegiances. We have seen him celebrating United goals in the commentary booth.

There isn't any opinions that Neville has shared that havnt been said a million times on The Caf, or by United fans at games.

As fans, we are all emotionally invested in our club. That doesnt mean we cant make clear eyed observations and be critical when criticism is due.

I don't know about Don Goodman, but i can assure you that many fans think the media/refs/league/goverment/gods are against their team.

I assume it's because they believe this is what an American audience wants. But whenever i sit with family over in America, they are equally annoyed by it to.

I think Neville has obviously been given a mandate by Sky to hone in on potential controversies to stoke up debate, which will lead to content being consumed on social media.
