Gary Neville - Pundit

Well you are entitled to your opinion, if you enjoy listening to him during a match I am pleased for you
if you enjoy criticising a United legend for doing his job, I can't say I'm pleased for you. Do you really want him to be like Clown Carragher or Souness?

I think Neville has obviously been given a mandate by Sky to hone in on potential controversies to stoke up debate, which will lead to content being consumed on social media.

Clearly, but i don't think he really does that.

Carragher meanwhile really doubles down on this. To me he goes in way too hard to get the controversy up, and really ends up just making him look like an awful pundit.

I don't mind him quite as much as others.
But he often tries to stir up non calls against United and ignore pen appeals and suchlike for us.

He overdoes the try not to be biased angle.

And when Ole was here like with Keano they were markedly less critical of managerial decisions because he was their mate.
Most surprising with Keane as he usually doesn't care about such things and will purposely do mad stuff like leave Scholes and Giggs out of his all time United 11 as they were Fergie favourites.

He's an insufferable twat on commentary. Loved him as a player but he's so anti United he may as well be scouse.

I can genuinely not understand how people moan about Gary Neville whilst watching this pathetic group of players and manager constantly stink the place up. How do you have the energy and time to be focused on what Gary Neville in saying when these thick muppets can’t string three passes together.

Because people get so bored of watching United.

A massive red flag for me was the abuse he would give De Gea when he came to United but was silent on Joe Hart's blunders for City, no doubt because he was doubling up as England assistant coach at the time.

Another was him going off on one about the evils of a super league, the backlash against that was so bad there were riots. There was more than a dash of irony with somebody leading the charge against a breakaway league when they are employed by Sky, the driving force behind the breakaway league that was the Premier League, which led to ticket prices surging and the vast majority of football matches being no longer free to air.

It's a clumsy analogy, but Sky are happy to use him in a kind of Uncle Tom way. "Here is a staunch United man and even he thinks it shouldn't have been a goal for United because 15 minutes ago there might have been a free kick the other way", proceeding to him going on about it like it's an outrage akin to someone being stabbed.

No problem with him saying we're shit, we clearly are but he seems suspiciously zealous in his desire to fire up controversies about us over the slightest things. The third goal against Brighton we scored recently seemed to make him massively disappointed it wasn't ruled out, he came across as utterly outraged and devastated it wasn't chalked off - going on for ages about a potential foul in the build up.

Read on the Guardian minute-by-minute that he went on and on about the added-on time at Leeds. Does he do that when Liverpool are routinely given generous portions when chasing a goal?

The bending over backwards to not appear biased is pathetic.

He’s especially incoherent tonight, seems to be getting confused often and is taking forever to get to the point.

Was extremely positive about Utd all night but people will still find a way to twist it into some sort of insidious agenda.

I thought that when analysing the replay of Casemiro goal - he was all over the shop.
Was that the one where he confused Yoro and Heaven?

Because that was proper Sleepy Gary stuff.

Agreed - you took the words right out of my mouth. Some here seem to want him to be another Carragher or Rednapp (possibly even Souness)

He’s spent the last 45 minutes praising the performance and the set up of the team

Was what I was thinking. Has consistently said how good we have been. Praises the MF, praised players and didn't think we deserved to go in at half time a goal behind.

Hate for hates sake going on here I think

First 15 definitely not, jumps on Sesko for missing a chance, Dorgu for getting away with a foul, even in the second day half with Cunha's missed header he goes overly hard... he was more positive about the performance after my comment but there's just something about his punditry towards Utd that is noticeably more critical than any other team.

All those were fair takes though? He's on commentary... He can't just not say anything

Same old, people just want him to say what they want to hear.

It is such a circle jerk of nonsense this anti Neville thing.

You had people seriously asking if he was a Liverpool fan yesterday.

You’d have thought we got a last minute penalty from a dive the way he went on about that Dorgu incident

He said we were the better team but people still digging him out just for saying cunah should have scored that absolute sitter. Madness

 Like clockwork every United game he commentates on…

Nah, he was fair. E.g. Cunha’s miss was shite, Neville didn’t say anything about it that would have been different for any other attacker at a different club. He’d also praised Cunha consistently throughout the match (rightly, he was very good).

So he rightly pointed out the poor things United players did were indeed…poor? What a bastard!
