YES GARY!! These leeches need to be gone. He needs to keep banging on about this, as does Jamie for Liverpool and FSG. I'm so happy to see him mention that Woodward isn't enough, that the Glazers have to go too.

Don’t Liverpool fans pretty much love FSG (forgetting the last 48 hours)?

Shame this didn’t happen earlier but us as fans are complicit as well and will continue to be. If COVID rules allow Old Trafford will be packed every game next season.

He just referred to the Glazers as "the leeches" on Sky. He's certainly changed his tune after years of covering for them. Better late than never I suppose.

How big must his ego be tonight?
He'll be on cloud nine, no bloody doubt (as most of us are). He was commenting as the news broke 2 days ago and his immediate reaction was 'relegate Man United'. As others have said, he really did set the tone right from the off. Relentless and vociferous in opposition. Everything you want in a pundit the past few days

Gary Neville, Carragher, Phil Neville with very strong opinions and plenty of air time against ESL. Wondering what do they have in common? Wondering if they had this conviction in the past against those "leeches" and "billionaires" owners??

He now needs to beat the Glazer out drum every week. He was silent for too long but he has been exceptional the past couple of days.

This narrative that Neville/Carragher were saying what they said because they work for Sky has to be the worst hot take of the last crazy 48 hours.

The ESL would replace the CL, which BT have the rights for until 2024. So it actually created an opportunity for Sky to have a bigger slice of the football pie. It was also intended to run in parallel with the Premier League, so Neville and Carragher’s jobs were secure regardless.

Seeing as the vast majority of football fans (plus players and managers) were appalled by this proposal the idea that Neville only felt/said what he did because he was trying to impress his employer makes no sense at all.

Thank you @Pogue Mahone

These are other Sky's pundits opinions:
Sky Sports’ Gary Neville:

“I’m not against the modernisation of football competitions, we have the Premier League, we have the Champions League. But to bring forward proposals in the midst of COVID, in the midst of the economic crisis that exists for all clubs is an absolute scandal.

“United and the rest of the big six clubs that have signed up to it against the rest of the Premier League should be ashamed of themselves.

“European Super League? Are Arsenal in that? They have just drawn with Fulham, Manchester United are drawing with Burnley. I cannot concentrate on the game. To sign up to the Super League during a season is a joke, they should deduct points off all six of them.”

Sky Sports’ Roy Keane:

“It comes down to money, greed, it doesn’t sound good. Let’s hope it’s stopped in its tracks because it’s pure greed. We talk about the big clubs, Bayern Munich are one of the biggest in the world, at least they have made a stand, which is a start.”

Sky Sports’ Micah Richards:

“The Premier League has been run amazingly, and clubs are businesses and investments. But what happens to the fans, the memories of what the fans have had over the years?

“Are they to be forgotten about for the sake of money? That’s what football has become now, it’s an absolute disgrace.”

Just the way media works, it is not possible to all their pundits to have similar opinions, without the "consent" (a.k.a interest) of their employer. It is just not possible, especially on broadcasting media.

But yeh, you could be right that Sky has the football fans in mind, first and foremost, though. Me and my stupid opinion.

His rhetoric is quite impressive. Not to discourage his work this week - he’s been spot on for a lot, if not all of it. But, any agenda Sky want to peddle — just let Neville rant about it for an hour on Monday Night Football and it becomes quite accepted in the football world.

This will blow your mind but there have been literally dozens of almost identical opinions from players and managers, past and present, expressed over the last 48 hours. Most of whom are not employed by Sky Sports. Why do you think that might be?

Well if it works start on City and Chelsea. Just this morning Jim White was on Talksport crucifying Utd and Liverpool but then telling angry Chelsea fans Roman has done more good than harm.
The picking and choosing of who to go after has begun and it isnt right. They all signed it as a group and should be hated equally.

I see that bastion of probity, Sam Allardyce, thinks the "Big Six" should be punished ( of course ). WBA to be saved from relegation has nothing to do with that, of course).

Say what is wrong? The owners of the “elite” clubs seeking out more power and more revenue? If so, I’m a Socialist. I fundamentally disagree with the concentration of power and wealth in the hands of an elite few. But is it “wrong” that in a capitalist system, the bigger, badder capitalists continue to eat the smaller, weaker capitalists? Football should be a level playing field for all. We should have had salary caps, limits on transfer spending, fan ownership of clubs, home grown player rules, limits on how many players a club can own etc...but we don’t. The PL and UEFA and even Sky could have reformed the game but they didn’t. They let it become sick and refused to treat the disease.

My point (a view shared by many others) is that it’s sickening watching Sky and the PL suddenly start preaching to us who have argued for a fairer system for fans and clubs for years. They have exploited us to the point many couldn’t take it any more and walked away. Now they want our help because some bigger, badder wolf is threatening to blow THEIR house down? This club knows better than any the dangers of foreign ownership. There’s 100,000 messages on this forum to that effect.

I don’t understand your point about Keane and Neville’s wealth. I have never mentioned their wealth at all. I have continuously referenced the fact I would perhaps have more respect for their opinions if they were honest enough to point out their employers created this mess in the first place.

The point you seem to be failing to see is that I agree with the principle of what Neville and the rest are saying but why were they saying it now and not in 2003 when Roman bought Chelsea or in 2005 when the Glazers bought Utd or in 2009 when Sheikh Mansour bought City and on and on and on...? I’m not having Sky setting the narrative of them somehow being the fan’s champion. This should be a fan movement. I’ll get behind that 100%. I’m not getting behind anything Sky say or do because they go against everything I stand for and as far as I am concerned this is all of their chickens coming home to roost.
You'd get a 'like' for this if I could.

Perez is not the one who is making personal gain by saying sensationalist and superficial nonsense against the club that made him who he is.
No, he want to make personal gain by cutting out 99,9999999% of clubs in the world just so his Real Madrid can buy players, give huge wages and pretend that everything is ok.

So, where was Gary Neville wrong?

That’s not really personal gain is it? Perez is not an owner like the Glazers. He is an elected official.

By the way, the Super league provided for payments to non participating clubs - it wasn’t really cutting out the rest of the clubs. Secondly, no one actually knows what the detailed framework was going to be for the super league. It is possible that the 16 clubs could have come up with a more interesting framework for audience which could have brought in more money for all the clubs involved as well as the non participating clubs. The last sentence is my speculation but a possibility nonetheless

Gary Neville was wrong because he jumped the gun. He came out with a very activist and sensationalised stance where he turned the masses against the clubs. He could have taken a stance like Keane where he was critical of the greed but didn’t deride the club and basically create a target on the heads of everyone involved at the club. Why was he so sensational ? Why couldn’t he have reacted like Keane or SAF who were critical but not trying to overly sensationalise ? What about Beckham and Giggs ? Do they have lower stakes than Neville ?

Elected official? Might be. But he is putting himself and Real Madrid over everybody.

I understand, by your post, that you are all for this. Thats ok. But saying payments to other clubs and then going on saying that without actually knowing detailed framework is kind of wrong. Specially when Perez almost says that lower teams will benefit of big teams when buying there best players. Oh, how that solidarity smells roses. What we know is all those interviews with Perez / Agnelli. What they say is just lot of stuff that really puts them in spotlight and how bad it is. And in a very bad, bad way. They come across as two big egos with zero humility towards other clubs and other people. Specially small clubs.

Neville and Carragher were spot on with their critism. You can call it activism, I call it a normal reaction to something that would ruin sport. They should be applauded by everyone for taking a hard stance. Keane, Souness, managers, players and so on were critical to. Find me a player or manager that have said, "oh, this is great".

Beckham owns a club playing in the league where nothing matters, expect first place. Just like these owners wanted.
