What about all those titles Keane won while at Manchester United? Was he not a major part of those successes and can you really claim that those titles would have been won without Keane but with another player? What if Keane joined Arsenal or Liverpool... Arsenal or Liverpool might have won a title during that period.

Who knows.. a prime Roy Keane during the most succesfull period and it might have been even more succesfull. Also the 98/99 is the most succesfull season ever, Roy Keane was captain that season and played 55 games with only Schmeichel playing one game more. Looks like he was pretty important to Fergie his succes that season.

Roy Keane owes Fergie a lot when it comes to the titles he won but on the opposite side Fergie also was a very lucky man to have Roy Keane in his team. You make it sound like Roy Keane was just some squad member lucky to be at the right team at right time...

Ha - that's like saying if Alan Shearer had have signed for us in 96, then looking back on it and saying 'look at all the titles we won, if we didn't have Shearer we wouldn't have won them.'

Well we didn't have Shearer and we STILL won them..

If we didn't sign Keane when he did, and he went to Blackburn instead - we would have signed someone else and Fergie still would have won all he did. Fergie's success is all down to Fergie.. we won titles before and after Keane.. we won titles before and after Ronaldo... we won titles after Cantona... Fergie is the reason we dominated and became the biggest club in the world; all players came and went...

Both men have far too much pride to easily reconcile. And, no, extreme pride & other personality flaws are not necessarily the crucial components of genius; that is a Romantic myth.

Keane savaged Walters. Brilliant.
Keane speak his mind and you have to respect that.

I feel like you’d have to fight Roy Keane before he’d take to you.

We probably may have not won the CL beating Bayern. We would not have beaten Juve if he had not scored the goal.

I think we would have done better in the champions league (early years) with Shearer, might have even won another trophy, brilliant player.

Just like Fergie most likely wouldnt have won as much without Keane
How?

Fergie was already winning trophies pre Keane and we arguably had one of our most successful periods and best ever teams shortly after he left.

Fergie was successful regardless of Keane, so yeah..doesn't make sense.

That was a good 2 hour long listen. Very candid both of them. Keane was distasteful at times, but that's not surprising to someone who has read his book. Like Gary said, you need to know what his trigger is. Unfortunately for Roy, he is expecting everyone else to be like him but doesn't realize his own triggers. Perhaps, that's his failing as a manager.

The bit where Gary said that Roy the manager would have got rid of Roy the player was brilliant. (Though Gary took a lot of time to get there.)

I think his response that Roy Keane the manager would not have let it get to that stage means he knows that he crossed a line. He just could not admit it.

Think that's unfair on Keane. He was basically the bridge through all of Fergies most successful era's, leaving (and probably needed moving on) as Fergies last great team came of age.

Would Fergie have been just as successful? Hard to say. Quite probably but there is no denying Keane was a huge influence. It's an interesting thought what would have happened if he hadn't fired off Dalglish to join us. Would Blackburn have stayed around longer as competition with Keane? What impact could he have had on another talented bunch of youngsters coming through at Liverpool?

Agree! There was also the bit where he talks about his family being totally separate from football. When you go to football, it's like war (or something like that). Makes you wonder if this interview is still a part of his football world, and he's in war mode. (Cant really reflect honestly!).

The bit about not having spoken to Fergie is hard to hear. They had a fall out but not speaking for 15 years to a mentor is hardcore

Neville's got a bit of stick on Twitter for doubling down on pushing to ask his question, when the interviewer wanted to explore a point further with Keane about the interview.

I thought he came across as a bit arrogant myself.

In fairness to the interviewer he didn’t want to back down just because Neville wanted to talk .

You do realise that Sir Alex signed him, right?

Roy Keane needed Manchester United far more than Manchester United needed Roy Keane. If he didn't sign for us he'd have bounced around the premier league for 15 years, blowing up at boss after boss until he fell away into nothingness. He's just lucky that he found the only Manager in the world that would be able to tolerate and work with his bullshit and not allow him (Keane) to undermine him to the squad. Look at how he behaved with Ireland. Would have been no different at Club level. The difference is he worked with Clough and Fergie at club level so behaving like he did in Saipan wouldn't have been a good career move for him.

I finally watched the whole 2 hour version.

He's one hell of a character, amazing charisma, presence and even comedy timing in places.
A bit more of an insight into why things happened as they did, things like how he barely got to know the Ireland lot, unlike how he'd form bonds with the United squad.

But massively lets himself down with things like not for a second considering getting in touch with Fergie when he could easily have been near the end. Wanting an apology for something so trivial in the scheme of things, instead of a potential human angle and possible last chance to make amends.

Sorry I meant Neville came across as arrogant. The presenter was doing his job and Keane blanked the supposedly better question anyway.
Watching that part was uncomfortable. Nev came across as an arrogant tool there.

They don't make them like Keane anymore. Man I wish he was still playing.

We would not squandering around mid table for sure. And either Pogba would stop his fooling around and play seriously or would have been kicked to kingdom come.
As for Lingard I do not know what Keano would do to him.

This clip makes me laugh, for someone who’s always stressing that people wouldn’t dare pipe up to him in real life, Neville sure seemed to shit himself when approached by Vieira.

Keane felt right at home with that hurling stick in his hand. Surprised he didn't start beating everyone up.
