Pretty amazing draw for the German EL teams, isn't it? I'm aware that Union finished behind Union during group stages, but still.. them and Ferencvaros were probably the weakest teams in the draw on paper. And Freiburg got some dubious Italian midtable team, that will probably go bankrupt or be closed down by regulators before they play them.

I really should start betting... Gladbach after beating Bayern is on the way to lose the next match again. 2:0 for Mainz right now...

At this point Banterussia Gladbach is nothing but a six point deduction for Bayern.

Dortmund doing well currently against Hoffenheim (though Hoffenheim are in a horrible run of form), one thing do is that defensively they have defeinitely looked better than the first half of the season. Schlotterbeck and Sule have improved, RB and LB are still up and down but Wolf has looked decent himself.

Really weird how that wasn't given as a penalty given the initial call was for a foul. Was soft but not an obvious error that it should have to be reserved. Do like that such contacts aren't given as penalties.

EDIT: Wow what a finish from Wolf, 2-0 now.

EDIT 2: Hahahah they called it back for a foul. How was that a foul? I guess that cancels out the penalty call

I guess with today's results we have to consider Frankfurt to be out of the title race?

It’s Bayern or Dortmund. Everything else is simply not a real option
We will see what the unreal option has to say about that tomorrow. :D

Quality usually makes the difference in the long run and Bayern remain firm favourites, but we're down to 12 remaining games now, we're approaching the stage where it's more about momentum, luck and nerves.
Union have made it this far, so who knows what can happen: e.g. if they win tomorrow - be it through good play or some lucky red card like Gladbach.

Dortmund, Bayern and Leipzig still have three games against each other, too.

Union isn't Dortmund
Have you watched Dortmund in 2023? Kobel, VAR, the woodwork and - if necessary - some pigeons accidentally intercepting shots would prevent that from happening.

Yes this season. But in the last years it's what usually happened - Dortmund being talked up to possibly challenge Bayern and then getting embarassed. Union might lose but I just don't see them getting desteoyed this way.

Actually Union's last game in Munich ended 0-4, while Dortmund's last two games in Munich were somewhat close affairs.

And I think no matter how you rate the performances of the current Dortmund side, toughness, aggression and cohesion are some of the things that have undeniably improved. Especially compared to the timid approach of Favre and previous attackers like Sancho or Brandt in his first couple of seasons for Dortmund, who threw a wrench into any attempts at making something happen outside of possession.

There's also the case of Lewandowski, who averaged over a goal a game against Dortmund and while I understand that Choupo-Goating is rated even more highly by Bayern's fans, his goals against Dortmund seem a little less inevitable.

Still, it's of course correct that Bayern are far more likely to win that game and the media building up Dortmund as sort of an equal is more wishful thinking than careful analysis.

Bayern comfortably 2 up. Intrigued they're at + 42 goal difference considering the amount of draws they've had since January. Were they blitzing everyone in the opening weeks by 5s and 6s? Have Hamburg been secretly placed back in Bundesliga?

Mane back now so that should be the key for last 10 games for them to build a more comfortable lead.

Bayern's finishing has been quite inconsistent this season, that's their main problem and the main reason for their draws. On good days winning clearly, but on bad days...

And Mane doesn't matter much. He gives them useful squad depth but he doesn't improve them.

Wow 1-6 at Frankfurt early on. Been some drop off since world cup restart.

I actually have a feeling Leipzig might win the league this season. After a poor start they've been in very good form for a long while and they've got pretty good depth in most areas. Will be out of europe in a few weeks aswell whereas Dortmund could remain in CL so that could be decisive. Have a decent run in although will need to avoid defeat in Munich to have a chance on the penultimate weekend.

A nice side by side comparison. Demanding for Bayern, pretty brutal for Dortmund. The hyped up title race could already be over at the end of it.

I wasn't aware that the other three stats were looking this good, too.

Terzic masterclass?

This move seems quite random. Is it maybe a prerequisite to selling off his shares?

Is this more surreal than Isco going to Union?
I guess the boring answer is that neither transfer would (have) be(en) particularly crazy, since Isco is still unemployed so arguably Union would have actually done him a favour, had they given him the opportunity to play in the title race for a while and then probably in the CL next year and Aouar seems have been stagnating for a while now and Frankfurt may just be the best club to offer him an important role.
So not quite Ricardo Pepi to Augsburg levels.

Malen picked up a knock in training, which is very unfortunate for him, since this would have been a serious opportunity to give Terzic something to think about, before Adeyemi returns. Brandt and Reus (maybe Bellingham) out wide also sounds like a serious pace deficit. Dortmund will probably have to try to dominate possession in the first half to make it work.

Nkunku starts for Leipzig
