The decision not to sign a RW will cost us top 4, at which point Sancho probably still won't want to come and then we're still screwed.
Agreed. I can’t for the life of me work out why we haven’t even been linked to any. It’s the most glaringly obvious hole in our first eleven, ahead of cb for me, and we’re not even looking. It’s all very well saying we’ll sign Sancho next year, but that’s a risky strategy as you say. What’s wrong with having a bit of depth anyway? Sign one now, and sign Sancho next year too.

I have one concern about signing Sancho. Although I would love to see him come here. If we do manage to pull of this transfer next year which I think would be amazing, I suspect it would be after the European Championships. Presuming he has a very good tournament his price is going to skyrocket to an obscene amount.

Hypothetically even if Sancho was a given next summer it's still would be a joke not signing a right winger this summer and a complete lack of ambition knowing it could jeopardise the club's chances to do anything of note this season and allowing the team's depth in quality to continue to stagnate, most top ambitious teams have 2 quality players for each position on the pitch because they are always trying improve but we are just happy making do with two make shift wingers that aren't even good enough in their actual strongest positions centrally.

I have a felling Dalot (maybe Greenwood) will be used increasingly on the RW next season, TBH I am ok to a certain extent as long as we strengthen the defense and midfield oh and attack

I have no concerns about signing Sancho because we'll never get him now :nervous:

Maybe we should see if we can get Douglas Costa to tie us over until next year, then go all in for Sancho. As at one point Juventus were supposedly offering Dybala, Sandro and Costa. Although I don't know how much truth is in it.

We have Youngy too as an option providing we get a full back in.

I really do not get this apparent obsession for not filling this role now. Waiting for Sancho is a pipe dream if we miss CL again next season. I really feel we are giving Ole no chance to succeed. We’ve got gaping holes all over the pitch, and are we helping him that much based on our dealings so far? To bring in a fairly rookie manager and not support him is unforgivable. I can understand it if players don’t want to come here and play for him, but nobody has said that so far. We should be balls out in the market this season to back him, instead Ed seems to have forgotten his Viagra medication.

IMO the right wing should be a priority. We have been playing with Lingard and Mata there. It would be frustrating to have another year with Lingard as our starter while our main rivals have Salah and Bernardo Silva. Also, we didn't sign an attacking fullback to assist our striker. Wan Bissaka is more defensive than RBs like Cancelo. That's why I think it's important to get an attacking player to make the difference.

I think you are all totally underestimating Daniel James he has bags of potential and I think that is why we will not be bringing in another RW. Plus we have other bigger holes to fill

That's because you're not an idiot. It takes a seriously imbecilic level of decision making to think that the best option for this club would be to wait a season. We have six seasons of sample size to see how much we need to add any sort of depth to that side. Our CEO is both that and arrogant. Hence what we will potentially be doing.

Lots of sense being spoken in here. Madness if we don’t sign a first team right winger. James could do well from the start but it’s a huge risk, and he could easily have a season like dalot where patience is required. Also, martial has been far from consistent on the other wing.
Douglas costa or bergwijn would help the team and ole hugely. Even bale on loan would be better than nothing.

Is that right? Have you watched a lot of Swansea this past season?

He's had a decent season in the Championship - it's a massive gamble going into next season expecting him to lock the position down.

I say we sign Dani Alves as a right winger
I would love to as well. Still a top player. His stats in the copa America were Impressive.

If were serious about getting Sancho over the line next year then a 1 year contract with an option for another, for Dani Alves would be good for us.

He played right wing a fair bit at PSG this season too. BUT.. I doubt very much he would come here. He would get silly money to play 2 or 3 more years in the MLS or China.. so really cant see it happening

Agree with bold part. Would take Bale on loan although his wages are huge and don't know if he would want to come here, let alone on loan. If possible I would try to make it a pay as you play deal, as I wouldn't want to be paying him 'x' amount of millions to be stuck on the treatment table.

But he'd probably relish the challenge for a year. Warning the seat for a Sancho. And we could pay him real well that one year.....:D

Yeah I had a season ticket for Swansea because I was based there with work for 14 months . The lad can be special . Obviously he is a bit ragged around the edges but hopefully United can turn him into the player I think he can become

That's awesome to hear. From purely his highlights reel I'm quite excited...but didn't want to get my hopes up.

His preseason work even before meeting the squad...kids got the mentality of a winner. Makes me even more hopeful

Be absolute madness if we do not sign a RW this season and start relying on Mata/Lingard/James/Dalot. It's the biggest weakness in our squad, most of our moves are conducted down the left due to this and Martial is often crowded out or double marked and we turn over possession too easily.

Having two competent wingers who can beat a man and have a bit of end product about them will help the team's balance massively and the new player I'm sure will be an upgrade over the last few years and add goals/assists which we have been severely lacking.

Let's sign a CB and a CM first, two if Pogba leaves, before we worry about any where else.

Its been so long since we have had a RW its ridiculous. I bet there are some teenage Utd fans out there that have never seen Utd play with a proper Right winger. Every Manager seems to think its not needed and its beginning to look like Ole thinks the same. Its friggin weird.

We're absolutely gonna get Bale on deadline day.

Whether it's a loan or buy it's happening.

The way I see it, our problems with the RW position are indelibly linked to the insane number of flops we signed for our LW. Look at the wide men we've signed in the last 5 years: Zaha, Di Maria, Martial, Memphis, Alexis, Mata, and Mikhi (including these last two as vaguely RW players, as they do nominally play in wide forward positions as well as CAM).

If any one of those players, particularly Zaha, Memphis, Martial, or Di Maria (I imagine we envisioned him playing a free role as a CAM where he'd drift wide, like he did for Madrid) had made the left wing his own as we expected when we brought them in, I'd wager we would have shifted our attention to the hole on our RW a few years ago. Because those players either flopped or didn't provide the requisite quality on a consistent basis, we've been left searching for an adequate LW as well as a RW. Point being, I don't think the club has purposefully neglected our RW, but because of a combination of bad transfer dealings and players not living up to their potential here, we've cycled through wide men at an alarming rate, which meant our RW has gone without a true top level wide man for too long.

If ziyech is really available for £22m and we are not interested, I hope it's because we have a spectacular RW lined up

What makes you so sure please mate? I know he was on Woody's original list of super signings. Cant see it happening and woouldn't want it. Don't want a crock on super wages. Would take him on loan on a performance related short term deal but would want him to lower his wages which I doubt he would do mate.
