Gianluigi Donnaruma

We didn’t sign either of those players off the back of our worst season ever in the PL though.

That doesn't seem to be an issue for us in terms of signing top talent this summer. Ultimately, we are still the biggest club in the world with a history most players will know about. Otherwise top players like Cunha and Mbuemo could easily go to CL clubs.

Onana to Donnarumma might be the most ridiculous improvement imaginable

This thread is funny to read. He's either overrated and poor or the best keeper in world. Only seen him in a few matches myself, been pretty good in those, but I'm sceptical due to his history (fall-out with Milan, team Raiola etc.).

There’s top talent then there’s the guy who’s won the euros being the best GK in the tournament and the CL being one of the MVP’s of the knockouts. Theres just no way this happens.

Can you imagine the upgrade from Onana to Donnarumma if we were able to pull this off??

Would be a super massive upgrade nevertheless.

I agree that its unlikely, but don't think that would be the reason. United, even in its worst state, continues to attract most players as long as we can pay the fees and wages.

There's a massive difference between Mbeumo/Cunha and this one. The former two are choosing us instead of moving up the table (and into the CL), Donnarumma would take an actual step down and out of the CL

This is generally how the CAF thinks about any player.

It's like Cristiano to Obertan but in reverse.
Oh god don’t. Actually, that made me curious as to what happened to Obertan but the rest of his career was extremely boring

True, but as we saw with 5x CL winner Casemiro, players occasionally move on for different challenges and adventures. Just because someone wins a CL doesn't mean they will automatically only entertain lateral moves to other CL challengers. United are the biggest club in the world (as measured by global fanbase) so we shouldn't be underselling ourselves.

So we'd very likely loot at something in the ballpark of 400k/week. That a no for me
Maybe he just wants a new challenge and not necessarily a raise, he's already one of the best paid keepers in the world and the few ones who make more than him are guys like Oblak and Neuer who have been with their respective clubs forever. Even the best ones in England like Alisson or Ederson dont make nearly as much. But I guess he'd still want to keep the same wage at least.

I’ve never thought that he was that good myself. Certainly not at the 70m mark that they’ve set for him
Yeah 70m is too much. 35-50 is more fair I think. Lots of years in him still. He’s more of a keeper where you get a bit of everything with no glaring holes.

The good news is that PSG is not reluctant to sell players to Manchester United (e.g. Ugarte), especially as we are not qualified for the Champions League.
His contractual situation makes a transfer doable and relatively affordable.
The question is: what is his market value given there is just 1 year of contract left? 40mn I reckon
I wouldn't underestimate the number of points he could bring.

Used to be £350k but then went to £205k +£90k bonuses

I’m sure we could match that with incentives as PSG won’t be getting much suitors without having to pay him off even if it’s just a year. That’s £15m they would owe him.

We did sign Casemiro after our worst EPL season at the time having finished 6th and off the back of being pumped 4-0 at Brentford. Every summer we have people saying high profile players will not want to sign for Manchester United and every summer high profile players sign for Manchester United.

But they don't want him out, do they?

I think they would optimise on the interest.

He’s got a year left so would be leaving for free and they can get a new keeper on cheaper wages which will probably be a better fit for Enrique.

But at the same time they are probably happy to keep him.

Imagine thinking we'd finally moved on from big money superstar signings only to then sign Donnaruma from PSG... only at Man Utd

To be fair he'd be a massive upgrade but I can't really see why he'd pick us over other suitors.

'Now that I have my first Michelin star, there is only one great challenge left in this industry... winning one as the branch manager of a KFC.'
You're a Brighton fan? Based on the username. If not , shocking disrespect of the club. Thankfully, professional players view us in a better and more fitting lens.

He makes his fair share of errors too.

He’s easily the top keeper in the world on current form. An absolute rock for shot stopping, mentality and penalties, steps up in the right occasions and is a commanding presence. Old school keeper.

He does have a big weakness on crosses and in the air, his distribution is good but not world class but frankly it doesn’t matter when your as good as he is at the important bits.

Is this actually on ? Are Ineos just pretending to be broke and going on an absolute spending spree this summer

He’s won a Michelin star in a city where feck all people go to eat.

Maybe he wants to win one in the culinary capital of the world.

Manchester is to football as Paris is to cooking.

I will literally shit in an airfryer and serve it to myself as a meal if this happens. No chance, more chance of Billy Meredith coming back from the dead to play for us.

No you wouldn't.

Shoot me down but this guy should be winning the balon d'or this year. If we could sign him...somehow. I'd be ecstatic.
