With the extra game, and the 16 extra relatively weaker teams, I think we've moved into new territory. Gone are the 6-goals-and-you're-top-scorer as was the case for the majority of tournaments from 1974 to 2018. This feels more like revisiting an earlier era, such as the 1966/1970 tournaments when 9 and 10 goals were needed to be top scorer (albeit with 6 games).

Yeah, feel a bit bad for Klose losing his record in honesty especially as I don't think he took any penalties. For us to be on game 2 and have multiple players on 4 or more goals seems a bit unprecedented and an indication the expansion hasn't been great.

I could be completely wrong if that's happened before, but can't remember it.

Four of Fontaines 13 in his competiton record was in the 3rd place game too. He'd still have won the golden boot mind but not have the record.
