He’s basically predicting an oligarch/state owned future that neither Liverpool or Manchester United can compete with.

He’s not wrong - the UK political leaders should really grow some balls here and do something so the two arguably biggest cultural institutions doesnt become either sportswashing tools or oligarch play toys.
Unless they invade Ukraine, the West will do nothing. Saudi Arabia's leader ordered the grisly execution of a journalist in which he was, while still alive, cut to pieces with a bonesaw, and it did nothing to prevent the Newcastle deal.

Good news... must mean we are down to the last few bidders or even have a bid accepted

Why will they? It is just another business investment from these rich states. The West has a defined set of allies. And these rich oligarch nations are the good guys, so to speak.

To me that suggests they are already someway down the line and have this as a timetable for when the process is expected to complete by.

I think its a US consortium
Me too. And I think it's one the Glazer's approve of(as opposed to simply being people who offered most money) hence this recommendation process to help give new owners legitimacy.

The fact that most media outlets say multiple buyers interested, if true, would suggest to me the glazers have had a few offers already and maybe playing one off against another to get the bid as high as possible.

£6.75bn with add ons. No buy back clause. Statement about fans being "real owners" pledge on stadium upgrade and announcing debt free status to get the hardliners on side. That's my betting how it'll go with our future faceless corporate overlords

We’re at that boring stage aren’t we. You know the one where we’ve all gone through the breaking news from reputable sources, excitement, speculation, hope, people talking like they have inside knowledge and then……feck all for ages.

It’s like the transfer forum in jan or summer but much, much more important.
Just need Harry Redknapp to pipe up saying he's been told by a big insider what's happening.
Like when he was adamant Ronaldo to Chelsea in the summer was happening.

I think so, too. They will sell to someone they 'know'. Someone in their circle. Perhaps the fee will include more than just money.
Still don't get how they'll make loads of money in the current climate whilst trying to compete with the oil clubs.

Yeah, Gary Cotterill chasing ‘arrys car down as he pulls out of a pie and mash shop that’s owned by Rashid bin Mohammed Al Maktoum.

Outside of the stadium issue the Glazers can currently compete with oil clubs looking at our current transfer and wage spending. I think the issue is whether currently we can compete it's more whether current owners can and invest in stadium. Maybe they've got some quotes on that and managing to finance stadium and keep up with the oil clubs is beyond the Glazer's means.

Why are people celebrating this? I was expecting new owners for Christmas.
Yeah and I'm expecting Shakira to knock on my front door any minute.

It's an asset worth upwards of 5bn mate. These types of deals don't get done that quickly.

How is Boehly expecting to make money? Or all the rest US-based people who were interested in Chelsea? Don't know, but they must have something in mind if they're willing. Especially if the Glazers are willing to let the club go for less hard funds in exchange for something else. Also, they don't necessarily have to compete with oil money or promise anything. They just need to keep the club relevant enough, which could be done with no investment on their side beyond the initial purchase, as long as they don't take directly out of the club or saddle it with more debt.

Other than the word "if" then I love it.

They must be very confident of getting their valuation matched, as if they back out now then I dread to think what will happen, in fact you'd think they likely know already who is probably buying us.

I hope if it's US, it's one of those dick-swinging, NFL-owning ones, like the Boehly one. Even if it is though, Brighton's backroom team has already been bought out, so Paul Mitchell for DoF?

I hope a sale happens quickly enough for us to be on point for the summer.

Glazers will sell to the highest bidder, I don't think it will have anything to do with close relationship dealings or anything of the like. The way they have run the club you can discern their mentality.

Yeah what difference can such a small word like "if" make eh?

Would have been nice to get it done that quick (and maybe a statement January signing to boot)

But Spring is only March. I’d take that

Prospective buyers will be public soon hopefully so we have an idea on who’s going to try to buy us

They’ll sell to a US consortium as a last ‘fvck you’ to the fans who’ve wanted them out from the very beginning !

All of our credit facilities/indentures have change of control provisions that require payoff if the club is taken over by new owners. All outstanding debt will be due at closing.
Well that’s news, I’ve heard otherwise that it depends but that’s great news. Happy to be rid of the debt

Glazers own an NFL team right…

I don’t want any US buyer but if it’s inevitable I just hope they don’t take dividends and all that shit, do actually invest in the facilities and fecking attend matches

Indeed they do but so does Boehly. Most NFL owners are not like them. Some are though (like the people who have connections with Raine and were in prime position to get Chelsea before their fans chased them out).

The dividend bit should be a given with new conditions applied on the Chelsea sale (they called it the Glazer rule). But there's always a way for these people to scam the system.

This is partly why I'm skeptical of Ratcliffe being serious about bidding. Just a couple of months ago his people were saying that the club wasn't for sale. But these deals don't just happen on a whim, so part of me thinks the Glazers have indeed been willing to sell for a while now.

I have it on good authority that IF the Glazers do sell, then it's POSSIBLE that we MIGHT sign 2-2026 new players in the summer. One (or more) of whom MIGHT be quite famous MAYBE!

Maybe Ratcliffe was told to button it for a while whilst they thought it over, which is why he came out with guff about them not wanting to sell, them been the "nicest people" and "proper gentlemen", which is clearly total crap, after initial news about him wanting to buy us.

The Glazers were probably surprised by him saying what he did, on the back of Chelsea selling for so much, then with the Super League been a non starter, and the unrest making the club spend so much again in the summer, they started to take it more seriously to the point of wanting out, which is why they are been so vocal about wanting sell all of a sudden to lure other bidders in, the reality is though that if they don't materlise Ratcliffe's bid will be accepted.

That's a fair point.

Whoever is paying £5bn or so for us, will need us to be successful. Part of that will mean making sure we're successful on the pitch.

To the people saying the club will be sold to US buyers because of the latest BBC tweet. Avram Glazer was in Dubai speaking to the wealth fund about a supposed cricket team around September this year. There is a picture confirming this. Maybe the people from Dubai asked if the Glazers were interested in selling.
