Wasn't he part of the first team and featured in some games? Is that why we stopped playing him?
He's been on the bench but never made an appearance.
Still too raw and Heaven is ahead of him in terms of the "youth" opportunities at LCB. Was surprised we had the other kid play though.
He looked so slow and clunky in the post season game against a bunch of amateurs. Apart from his size, I don't see it with him.
Good stuff. His contract situation was a little concerning. If Amorim continues with the 3 at the back, we are going to need more CBs once Maguire leaves and given injury concerns for Licha / Shaw.

How much does a player like Kukonki make? I assume something like a few thousand a week without any pro appearances. And do we have any protections when trying to sign him to an extension like this, or is it basically he can sign with whoever the highest bidder is? If the latter, it's interesting that we didn't have much (public) competition for his services given how promising he seems to be.
Is he injured? I was quite suprised that he hasnt been involved in preseason.

I'm not sure it is, he is a big lad no doubt but just not all that good. Zeki Fryers is probably an analogue for him.That’s a shame.
Wasn't he reportedly close to signing a contract last summer? He turned 18 in Feb. He is still not on a professional contract?
Not too surprising considering he's competing against Heaven, and Armer who is also left footed is also decent too. And theyre also all a year apart from each other
Armer is so slow. He will go the way of Rhys Bennett etc.
I had high hopes for him, fecking massive for his age and looked fast too. Shame, I guess the ability just wasn't there.
So did I, we must try and inlude a good sell on clause as he could come good at 23-25. Huge kid and left footed.
Good news that it seems he has positive talks with the club and is now set to sign a pro deal and go on loan. Norwich, Southampton want him.

That's good to hear, especially with Championship loans, he definitely should be playing against adults now, he's gonna hit a ceiling playing with academy players because of the size difference.

I don't blame Kukonki's people if they are holding up a deal at the minute, I doubt its a money issue either. He will get more money elsewhere no doubt. But his pathway is questionable at United and might be bettered elsewhere too. Although the door could open up at CB given the age of Maguire, the injuries of Martinez and MDL, Heaven is just a few years older and currently in line for that spot. So for Kukonki to get in he either needs to surpass Heaven or hope that United are willing to go with 3 young CBs in Yoro, Heaven and him. Thats a big ask in my view, can't see it happening. He might be the right player at the wrong time. I'd be very surprised if another expensive and more experienced CB isn't added next season too.
He’s played left back every time I’ve seen him play. He’s very likely to get game time this season, as Amass will be gone to West Ham soon. His pathway is currently looking very good.
I don't think thats his eventual position, I think it was a developmental move to build his game. He can play left back in the way Wes Brown could play right back. Both centre backs.

He has played 26 games at CB and 31 at leftback according to transfermarkt
He played LB as part of development and because Armer is also a LCB.
And that might explain his reluctant sign a new deal. He is a teenager and has 2 teenage LCBs potentially ahead of him in Heaven and Armer
There seems to be very few LB these days. He should definitely try to develop as a LB if he can. A tall strong LB can add a lot to our defending and attacking on dead ball situations.
Mantato probably has a better chance at left back than Kukonki. Kukonki seems a bit heavy and slow to be a left back. He is more suited to be a center half.
