Graham Potter | Sweden manager

Exciting appointment for West Ham. Potter could be the one to get better results and finish higher (like Moyes in those few seasons) and also do it playing some nice football.

Not sure this will end well for Potter...
If they give him time he’ll be fine. He may struggle at the start like we have under Amorim as he’ll be implementing his own system mid way through the season.

My point is, I'm not sure he'll get enough time. I quite like the guy although happy he wasn't hired by us

He won't get time because Everton can't afford to go down.

I think he’ll struggle as West Ham seem to have expectations higher than reality. Moyes did as well as could be expected and yet it wasn’t enough. The PL had so many good, well resourced, well run teams. They’re competing with Spurs, Us (oh dear) Brentford, Brighton, Fulham etc even for top of the bottom half

How long is Bowen out for?

You’re very light up front. You need goals in your squad

Back sometime in February I think.

Expect us to sign a striker because we have Bowen, Antonio and Fullkrug all injured - Ings and Antonio are both out of contract in the summer too.

rumour is we want Ferguson from Brighton and we are looking at several players from Chelsea

He's not doing a great job so far.
Yeah but guess he's been okay. Win at Emirates high point so far. Will be interesting to see West Ham after he has a preseason with them. Really liked Potter's Brighton (he did well at Ostersunds and Swansea as well) and then he wasn't doing that bad with Chelsea before the sack either given that it got worse under Lampard and then Pochettino wasn't special either. Chelsea not that great under Maresca atm as well so think time proved that Chelsea stint perhaps didn't do too much harm to Potter's reputation.

The well oiled Brighton machine made him look good, as it did with De Zerbi. It's why I'm not buying the Hurzeler hype either.

Hiring a manager who has never had a PL team that scores goals, not scoring goals shocker.

This seems a weird time to be criticising him. His last 4 results are 2 wins (including a deserved win away at Arsenal), 1 draw (away at in form Everton) and 1 loss (a match where WH were slightly the better team v high flying Newcastle).

Still rather he was everton boss then Moyes. Can't abide his football.

It's not looking great but he deserves a preseason. West Ham want better brand of football and should give Potter (or someone else) time to implement it.

He’s got to be the favourite to be the first manager shown the door. Flopped at Chelsea, struggling again at West Ham. I don’t see him getting a prem job after this. His CV is plain besides Brighton, and I don’t think he can live off that any longer, and the managers that followed him at Brighton did a better job.

Ok manager who has built a career off of Tony Bloom's recruiting.

I'm an Amorim fan but losing to Potter's West Ham is honestly the most inexcusable thing he's done for us, even in a dead rubber.

West Ham are just drifting along in the league. They looked as bad today as they did under Lopetegui for first half of last season and it's a solid conservative team that has lost a match winner in Kudus.

They are seem obsessed with signing CFs who are over 30 years old.

I think they'll have a Wolves type first half of this season as got Chelsea at home next so Potter will struggle to last past November.

Can not afford Bowen to be injured for 2-3 months as he is top class compared to those around him.

Took people long enough to come to the conclusion that he's shit.

All this from one game

They won two of their last 11 last season. Since lost Kudus and signed Calum Wilson.

At a Fulham or Palace I think Potter would be o.k but issue is he's following Moyes with three top 7 finishes, a trophy win and two other good European runs so there are much higher expectations there compared to five years ago.

Chelsea paid money to bring potter to replace Tuchel. . Boehly ball.

Is that true? Passed me by. That's pretty incredible if true.

20/21- 6th
21/22-7th
23/24- 9th (actually thought they'd finisher higher than that but did reach Europa league QFs).

So not quite but they'll be nowhere near top half this season so a bit of a comedown from what their fanbase is recently used to.

I was quite happy to have him instead of Moyes but at the moment I'm glad we chose Moyes.

I'm surprised he's been so poor so far with West Ham but also, their recruitment has been shocking.

I think this is the biggest issue with West Ham, their recruitment strategy if you can call it that never makes any sense.

He's pretty much relying on Bowen having a great season to rescue his job. The rest of that team is shocking and Kudus is a big loss.
